Does this ring look good on me? Tiffany Etoile "engagement" ring

I loved the Tiffany Etoile engagement ring when we got engaged 15 years ago, but couldn't afford it. Went with a generic sticky-uppy prong setting, looked lovely but I could never get used to wearing it (sensory issues, also I am clumsy with a hands-on job). Eventually sold it and just wore my plain platinum wedding ring.

DH suggested getting an anniversary ring. I'm not keen on eternity rings, and in my browsing, found a few Etoiles (now long discontinued) for sale.

I've tried one on and it's so smooth and comfortable - it's 0.35ct in platinum. I love it. It's got all its paperwork, had it checked out in Tiffany with the owner, it's a great price. But I have zero sense of style so am not sure if it looks awful or nice, if the diamond looks too small and the band too big, etc. I'd be very grateful for opinions from you stylish people. Honesty is welcome! Thank you.

Edit: argh sorry for my giant hand. I can't resize. My ring size is actually small (H1/2 UK).

I love it but it doesn't look quite right next to your wedding band. I'd probably get it and wear the wedding band on my other hand, but I do that a lot with my rings anyway and am not attached to rings being on the 'correct' finger so that may be just me!

Evanesy · 06/01/2024 12:30

Personally, I don’t like it, but it’s you that has to like it, and it’s clearly something you have always wanted and there is a risk that you will regret not getting it when you had the chance.

But you posting here in the first place does make me think that perhaps you want to like it because of its background, but are not too sure if you do.

That’s a good option - wear it without the wedding ring.

The band is too big for the size of the diamond. That second pic is way better!

This. I think the first ring is ugly anyway before it was even put in but it really doesn't suit your hand shape/size in any case.

The second one is lovely and suits you perfectly.

ChickenSoupAndLokshen · 06/01/2024 12:32

Most people have a similar look to the second picture you posted which means that's their general preference. I think the first combo you showed (the one you love) looks modern, proportional and understated. You've said you're less likely to follow the crowd now. I say go for it! You've hankered after the ring for years - now is your time!

It looks even chunkier in those latest photos in my opinion. I’d still go with option two.

twiddlingthumbs69 · 06/01/2024 12:35

Definitely try it without the wedding band.

Hallesmellie · 06/01/2024 12:35

I love the first picture and think the ‘top chunky’ comments might be different if it was sized correctly.

spanishviola · 06/01/2024 12:35

I love a chunky ting and think it looks fine.

Evanesy · 06/01/2024 12:36

Looks better in the latest photos. Try it without your wedding ring?

Makiwa · 06/01/2024 12:37

I like it. Try swapping the rings around on your finger. The bigger ring on first should give a better overall balanced look.

Olika · 06/01/2024 12:37

For me the issue is that the rings don't go together as one is so slim and the other wide.

OnaKitchenRoll · 06/01/2024 12:37

1st ring without the wedding ring

Saisong · 06/01/2024 12:37

I'm going to say yes, because mine is almost exactly the same style which I had a local jeweler make up with a stone we chose + platinum band. It does need a slightly thinner band though I think.
I love mine and the only reason I can wear it consistently is because of the low profile. I can't bear claw type settings.

VisitationRights · 06/01/2024 12:40

How about something in an eternity ring style? That way the diamond doesn’t poke out and you can get something that fits in more with the width of your wedding band?

I second @Makiwa , try them the other way around. I’ve always worn my engagement ring first as it looked better.

Falkenburg · 06/01/2024 12:41

The second one suits your finger and hand. The first one is too bulky and I don't like the setting it looks clunky

Girlontherailreplacementbusservice · 06/01/2024 12:42

Are you drawn to the design or to the Tiffany name? If it is the former I would recommend finding a good jeweller and talking to them about the style you want and either buying a second hand ring with a nice stone and having it reset (and reusing the metal from the band if you find one in platinum) or buying a stone. That way you will have a truly unique ring that is made exactly how you want it.
I knew exactly what I wanted but couldn't find it. In about the 10th shop we tried the jeweller overheard us took us upstairs whipped a roll of 100s of diamonds out of the safe indicated the section that was in our price range, talked us through the best options e.g. to prioritize whiteness as I wanted a platinum band, drew what he thought I wanted, adjusted it to be the ring that was in my head and made it for us to pick up three days later (we were overseas at the time) gorgeous diamond, platinum band, jumped to the front of the making queue and all for way less than a similar ring from a named brand.

The setting is horrible.

TeenLifeMum · 06/01/2024 12:44

If you look down at it and it makes you smile then go for it. Others will have different tastes but that doesn’t mean yours is wrong.

LambriniBobinIsleworth · 06/01/2024 12:46

My first impression is that the band is too thick looking for the size of stone and that it swamps your finger.

That style is beautiful but with slender fingers and sensory issues, the stones round the side may drive the OP mad. I had a ring almost identical to that and had to take it back because it just felt uncomfortable.

Hadjab · 06/01/2024 12:46

It’s lovely, but a narrower width band would make it look more in proportion to your wedding ring, like your original engagement ring. But ultimately, the question is do you love it?

Jk8 · 06/01/2024 12:46

I love the first one tbh. & I think its meant to be that you found it second hand years later!
