Does this ring look good on me? Tiffany Etoile "engagement" ring

I loved the Tiffany Etoile engagement ring when we got engaged 15 years ago, but couldn't afford it. Went with a generic sticky-uppy prong setting, looked lovely but I could never get used to wearing it (sensory issues, also I am clumsy with a hands-on job). Eventually sold it and just wore my plain platinum wedding ring.

DH suggested getting an anniversary ring. I'm not keen on eternity rings, and in my browsing, found a few Etoiles (now long discontinued) for sale.

I've tried one on and it's so smooth and comfortable - it's 0.35ct in platinum. I love it. It's got all its paperwork, had it checked out in Tiffany with the owner, it's a great price. But I have zero sense of style so am not sure if it looks awful or nice, if the diamond looks too small and the band too big, etc. I'd be very grateful for opinions from you stylish people. Honesty is welcome! Thank you.

Edit: argh sorry for my giant hand. I can't resize. My ring size is actually small (H1/2 UK).

I think you have quite dainty fingers and it looks quite bulky on them

Isthisreasonable · 06/01/2024 11:26

Sorry, it looks a bit too chunky on your finger, but I'm not the one wearing it. If it makes you happy, go for it.

LostMySocks · 06/01/2024 11:27

It is quite a wide band but many people love chunky jewellery so it really is personal preference. If it is comfortable and you will enjoy wearing it then I'd go for it.

DyslexicPoster · 06/01/2024 11:27

Is it your size? Looks a bit big to me, but lovely ring. It’s more important that you love it.

HippeePrincess · 06/01/2024 11:28

No I think it looks massive on you and too wide next to your wedding band.

35965a · 06/01/2024 11:28

I agree that the band looks a little bulky on your very slim fingers. However, in real life how long do we spend looking at people’s rings and judging the size etc? Near enough zero time! So if you love it I say go for it.

DyslexicPoster · 06/01/2024 11:30

It would be cheap to have it made smaller btw. How does it look with the wedding ring on top? My engagement ring doesn’t fit me anymore so I wear a bigger size ring under my wedding ring

alcohole · 06/01/2024 11:32

If you like it and it’s something you’ve always wanted then go for it, I wouldn’t analyse it

Mochacino · 06/01/2024 11:33

If you love it then it is perfect. It’s simple and elegant, health to enjoy

Disappeared · 06/01/2024 11:34

Can you not get your prongy original diamond reset lower so it sits flush with the band I did and it only cost £35

QuietBear · 06/01/2024 11:35

I don't think it looks nice personally (sorry!), but I also wouldn't notice in real life.

Motnight · 06/01/2024 11:47

I think that it looks beautiful!

DogFish614 · 06/01/2024 11:49

Thank you all, I appreciate the honesty! To answer some questions:

The original prongy setting is long gone. I have tried prong set rings since and I just can't get used to them. I love the look so I wish I could. I don't know, maybe I would if I persevered...? Here's a picture with a similarly sized Tiffany classic setting. It's more of the usual look I see around, but to me it felt flimsy and insubstantial (and poke-y).

Yes it does need to be made smaller - Tiffany have confirmed they will do it for free, which is nice. It will still look pretty much the same from the top though as the width of the ring doesn't reduce.

Good point about no-one noticing in real life 😉

You will get a whole bunch of conflicting replies because beauty is in the eye of the beholder, especially when it comes to jewellery. The only thing that matters is whether you love it.

Namechange4448830938489 · 06/01/2024 11:51

The band is too big for the size of the diamond. That second pic is way better!

MarleyandMarleyWoooo · 06/01/2024 11:52

If you love it, and it feels good, then buy it and wear it! It’s obviously left quite an impression that you’ve been thinking about it all these years after all.
I like it on you, and that’s despite it not being my normal personal style.

CaravaggiosCat · 06/01/2024 11:53

2nd pic looks much better and in proportion to the wedding band and your hand.

BaronessBomburst · 06/01/2024 11:55

The second ring suits you much better.
The first looks big and clunky.
Does it have to be Tiffany? You may be better off having something made to your specifications.

Anneta · 06/01/2024 11:56

Another vote for the second picture but go for the one you love as I’m not in the least bit stylish!

Definitelynotem · 06/01/2024 11:56

love the second hate the first!

MrsLeonFarrell · 06/01/2024 11:57

I have tiny fingers too and I love a chunky ring. I think it looks great!

Really all that matters is what you think about it. I'm a jewellery lover and notice what others are wearing but I rarely meet anyone else who does.

I was just coming to say this. You will be wearing it, you & your DH will be paying for it not us randoms on the internet. Go with what YOU love.

ActDottie · 06/01/2024 11:59

I think the band looks very chunky on you. But I think because it’s a chunkier band than your other ring it makes it look even chunkier.
