So I bought a new dress yesterday and have been stopped at work and in shops to ask where I got it, its really flattering and a lovely colour so if anyone is looking for a new dress I'd highly recommend this one 😃Floral Square Neck Midi Smock Dress

With its striking floral print, this dress offers a stylish choice for daywear. It's cut in a comfy regular fit, with a flattering square neckline and short sleeves to make it ideal for warmer weather. All-over smocking gives a figure-hugging shape thr...

I have this dress and wore it for the first time at a music festival last weekend. I also had several compliments. Even a girl of about 17 came up and said she loved it (which I thought was hilarious as its M&S and I'm 51!).

Of course it is bastard Viscose.......

Noooooo! Viscose is wonderful to wear.
You must be thinking about poo-lyester, the nastiest, yuckiest fabric ever created!

Fraida · 25/06/2023 15:48

I like viscose as it hangs nicely and doesn’t require ironing if you dry it carefully, always a bonus in my house. I get hot quickly and have never found viscose to exacerbate that.

That’s brilliant 🤩

I had the same at work several much younger women saying how much they liked it.

The colour really suits you op but I really do not like that dress it has a sort of techno milkmaid off to a rave look about it.

I love the visual imagery you have described - I’m now going to describe my style as ‘milkmaid of to a rave’

Well there you go, I didn’t like the dress on the model but on you, OP, it looks lovely!

yesterdayisgone · 25/06/2023 15:56

That dress is horrible .

I hate viscose too and especially in the summer.......

What's with all the vinegar titted people falling over themselves to let the OP know how much they hate her dress? What a sad little life, Jane!

Enjoy your dress, OP.

vinegar titted?

**Nice bit of misogyny there. As opposed to sugar titted?

yes, vinegar titted.

hth

SaveMeFromForearms · 25/06/2023 21:22

That's a horrible expression, vinegar tits. Sounds like something Gene Hunt would say.

macrowave · 25/06/2023 21:45

Viscose is breathable. I live in a hot country and it's a very standard choice for summer clothing.

BitOutOfPractice · 25/06/2023 22:20

I can’t understand the hatred for viscose on mn either. It is eminently summery. Are you thinking of polyester, viscose haters?

Gateappreciation · 25/06/2023 22:23

Lovely dress and colours, but not square neck. M and gave really upped their game.

Startyabastard · 25/06/2023 22:45

I'd sweat like a pig in that.

ginoclocksomewhere · 25/06/2023 22:50

I actually have that dress but am yet to wear it 🤣 maybe I will now! 😃

Of course it is bastard Viscose.......

Viscose has changed a lot of the years and woven to a superior quality that many top fashion brands now use it. It is neither natural or synthentic and made from renewable plants.
I find that viscose drapes well and breathable material unlike sweaty Polyester/Nylon.

I think to carry these styles off well you need to be taller and not too busty - that shirring is too clingy and puffy sleeves and tiers just add volume. Looks nice on OP though!

I am tall and not busty - the problem for me would be that it would be too low at the front (not having enough to fill it out). Also, too much fabric (the puffy sleeves) can swamp me. The model on the M&S page is obviously tall and not busty though and it looks OK on her, but I think she's having to hold her shoulders back so the dress sits well on her top half. Just going about your day I reckon it would gape.

It is an unusual dress, pattern. Sorry, the outfit would be completely frumpy on me, the sleeves are huge and puffy, the dress would drown me.

If tall, slim you can get away with this dress. I am sure OP looks great with so many compliments. 😊

ChocChipHandbag · 26/06/2023 10:09

I really love how easy viscose is to iron. It’s so satisfying watching the creases melt away, much better than bastard linen.

Yorkshirelass04 · 26/06/2023 11:00

I don't understand people saying this dress is hideous - it's really not?!?

And the OP looks great in it, from what we can see. Let her enjoy it!

I think there should be a rule on S&B that if you slag someone's choice off, then you have to link to an alternative OR show what style you wear instead and why that's better.
