So I bought a new dress yesterday and have been stopped at work and in shops to ask where I got it, its really flattering and a lovely colour so if anyone is looking for a new dress I'd highly recommend this one 😃Floral Square Neck Midi Smock Dress

Floral Square Neck Midi Smock Dress

With its striking floral print, this dress offers a stylish choice for daywear. It's cut in a comfy regular fit, with a flattering square neckline and short sleeves to make it ideal for warmer weather. All-over smocking gives a figure-hugging shape thr...

Of course it is bastard Viscose.......

Gosh, I preferentially seek out viscose tops and dresses now, it's such a flattering fabric in the way it drapes...

SaveMeFromForearms · 23/06/2023 09:46

Really? It's such a drab shape and pattern.

DustyLee123 · 23/06/2023 09:48

I’m not a fan of the gathered elastic, I find it pinches.

DustyLee123 · 23/06/2023 09:48

Viscose is sweaty

minipie · 23/06/2023 09:49

Not for me OP, I’m short and have narrow shoulders so this kind of style just swamps me. Nice colours though and I’m happy to see more waisted styles returning.

Peridot1 · 23/06/2023 09:51

I loved the colours and tried it on but it didn’t look great on me. Very sack like.

user1483387154 · 23/06/2023 09:52

really? I'm surprised by this. it's so shapeless

HeidiUpTheMountain · 23/06/2023 09:52

I am short and slightly round, so I look like one of those toilet roll cover dolls in dresses like these. Plus in perimenopause, so viscose is a no for heat/sweating reasons. I’m glad you have the figure to carry it off, OP, and your joy at finding something you love comes off the page! But I don’t think it’s a universal answer to the question ‘find a dress that will suit everyone.’

CatchYouOnTheFlippetyFlop · 23/06/2023 09:55

Nice blatant advert. Dress is hideous.

Lentilweaver · 23/06/2023 09:56

I am really looking for more waisted- not clingy- dresses myself, but everything is a sack these days.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 23/06/2023 09:57

This is the dress I've just bought. I've only worn it out and about once - and a lady literally stopped me in the street to tell me how nice it was. It's so comfy and has POCKETS! It's more teal than green.

(downside it is handwash only)

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 23/06/2023 09:58

Meant to add - I like your one but I have huge boobs and and even huger belly so the smocking doesn't normally look great on me.

AngelinaFibres · 23/06/2023 09:59

BitchBrigade · 23/06/2023 09:28

I cannot wait for this hideous trend of shapeless, flour sack like dresses to die.

I just can't wear them. I am tallish and slim but I just look instantly short and 2 stone heavier. I also look as if I am married to a vicar. Not for me.

JimnJoyce · 23/06/2023 10:00

@ChiefWiggumsBoy that dress is gorgeous

Hooooping · 23/06/2023 10:08

Also wish it was cotton. Would be Sweating like a 🐷 .

Fraida · 23/06/2023 10:13

To answer question about my vitals... I'm 47, big of boob, size 16-18 with a stomach size that refelcts peri-menopause and three children!

Appreciate it wouldn't be everyones' cup of tea but for whatever reason it clearly works on me so I thought I'd share the love in case anyone is on the hunt for a summer dress!

Picture of me and the top bit.

Never bought a dress that has had as many compliaments as this one!

@Lentilweaver I agree that so many dresses at the moment are sack like and shapeless, I am still on the hunt for another suitable one so if anyone has any ideas do share!

God dammit. I’ve ended up ordering a couple of M&S dresses now. I hold you entirely responsible op. Not your one, as I prefer cotton, but I’d not have looked if you hadn’t posted. I’m the same size on top as you op, and have pretty big boobs, and find this sort of style suits my figure. The ones I’ve bought are cotton and quite floaty, but I got one somewhere else recently that’s the same sort of style and it’s A) really cool to wear, and B) looks good too. Bonus with the beauty box offer too😳
I'm pretty impressed with what they have, it’s been a long time since I bothered looking at M&S clothes, as it was pretty shocking for a good while.

Fraida · 23/06/2023 10:22

@ChiefWiggumsBoy that dress is lovely but does the tie work on the bigger of boob? I love the colour and the fact it has pockets.

Lentilweaver · 23/06/2023 10:22

The colours look nice on you. I have a small bust....

HoistWithHisOwnPetard · 23/06/2023 10:23

Its hideous but whatever floats your boat😁

Fraida · 23/06/2023 10:24

@PlainOldEmmaJane they do seem to have a good range this year and I am definitely not an M&S customer generally (apart from the standard pants and bra type shopping) - tend to stick with Very and online shops as I don't have the time normally for good old fashioned bricks and mortar shopping.

WimbyAce · 23/06/2023 10:24

Not keen on it myself but good for you. Plus I am a £20 dress only kind of girl 😅

BitOutOfPractice · 23/06/2023 10:25

Funny when a dress just works for you isn't it? I bought a cotton (yay!) knee length shirt dress in Primark (lined as well!) for £12 last week - about 5 people complimented me on it - from the old lady in her 90s I visit to a young woman in my office. I felt like the bees knees in it!

Fraida · 23/06/2023 10:25

@HoistWithHisOwnPetard I'm not claiming to be a sartorial expert by any stretch just a frustrated, disillusioned 40 something shopper who gets (apparently) unreasonably excited when she actually stumbles upon something that 'works' 😁
