So I bought a new dress yesterday and have been stopped at work and in shops to ask where I got it, its really flattering and a lovely colour so if anyone is looking for a new dress I'd highly recommend this one 😃Floral Square Neck Midi Smock Dress

Floral Square Neck Midi Smock Dress

With its striking floral print, this dress offers a stylish choice for daywear. It's cut in a comfy regular fit, with a flattering square neckline and short sleeves to make it ideal for warmer weather. All-over smocking gives a figure-hugging shape thr...

I cannot wait for this hideous trend of shapeless, flour sack like dresses to die.

@BitchBrigade its not the dress that’s shapeless. M&S always seem to use these shape of models- rail thin and straight up and down no boobs or bum. The dress on a curvier woman would probably look lovely

Hoffi · 23/06/2023 22:09

I wanted to love this so much but I've never whipped off a dress faster in an M&S changing room.

elodiedie · 23/06/2023 22:14

It obviously looks great on you and that’s why you’re getting the compliments. Newsflash: different people suit different styles and colours. I have no bust so it would look dreadful on me.

lurchermummy · 23/06/2023 22:19

I like the colour but so fed up of everything having a frill at the bottom. Plus shirring and big boobs do not go.

Hoffi · 23/06/2023 22:22

I'm five feet seven, generous chest, hourglass shape, and these shirred bodice dresses make me look like a milkmaid. I wish they didn't, because all my late 70s childhood party dress boxes are ticked by the shirring/puff sleeves/tiered skirt but... no. Strong milking vibes.

CatchYouOnTheFlippetyFlop · 23/06/2023 09:55

Nice blatant advert. Dress is hideous.

I agree. Awful in every way

porridgeisbae · 23/06/2023 22:55

I think it's maybe a delicate balance- like a PP said the smocking would look wrong on a lot of women's busts, and I don't think it looks that good on an ironing board chest either.

If it was cotton/linen the wide skirt would be excusable by being cool. But viscose is always a no IMHO.

ARRGHHHHHxxxxx · 24/06/2023 00:16

I wouldn't be seen in this dress, I don't like the gathered elastic. As long as your happy with it OP.

Seddon · 24/06/2023 00:19

Emotionalstorm · 23/06/2023 12:21

Really? I'm surprised.

Oh don't be so mean.

I don't like the dress and it would look horrible on me but you can see from from the OP's photo that the colour looks great on her.

Jemandthehologramsunite · 23/06/2023 09:25

I think it's terrible even on this model, it has no shape. But obviously it must look good on you if you've had so many compliments, so good find!

It has a shape - it will cling at the bust , there is a waist and there are tiers?

This is a dress with no shape surely?

Pure Linen Square Neck Maxi Smock Dress

This pure linen smock dress by Albaray is an effortless choice for warm days. It's cut to an easy regular fit with a billowy, tiered-hem maxi skirt for throw-on-and-go appeal. The low, ruched square neck is mirrored at the back, creating an airy feel....

She has put a bit of a pic up.

It does suit you @Fraida , I think partly it's the colour, you could easily have that blue as one of the main colours you wear maybe.

Blue just brings out the bags under my eyes, red/claret is more flattering on me as I'm naturally a pale brunette.

Lentilweaver · 23/06/2023 10:28

I buy a lot of trousers from M and S, but somehow the dresses don't often suit me. I did buy this and it's nice on me ( small bust, larger waist, small hips, size 10). I only like simple shapes. Linen Rich Printed V-Neck Tunic | M&S Collection | M&S (marksandspencer.com)

Love this - like plain too

myavatareatsveganpasta · 24/06/2023 08:17

Lovely dress OP and from what I can see it looks lovely on you. Going to order one myself on pay day!

Depressed by the vitriol on this thread though. If you don't like it, can't you just say nothing or say it's not for me instead of taking the time to tell the OP it's hideous/vile/shapeless? What do people get out of posting stuff like that? I've been on Mumsnet for years and I will never understand.

JaffaCake70 · 23/06/2023 22:31

Like this. So deeply unpleasant. Why bother posting something so nasty? The OP is clearly feeling happy and confident in her choices, why would you want to bring her down?

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 24/06/2023 08:29

For me the length would be too long even though I’m 5 ft 5 and I also have boobs so it’d either work or not.

The colour and print and style obviously work for you but it’s not guaranteed to suit everyone.

sonjadog · 24/06/2023 09:07

It wouldn't work for me, sadly. My boobs look huge in shirred waisted things. Like traffic stopping huge - it really is quite something. Also I just cannot wear anything with puffed sleeves. They make me look even wider than nature intended. So many nice clothes are unwearable for me because of them. I can't wait for that fashion to disappear.

But I am glad you have found a dress you like, OP. It is always nice to get compliments! :-)

Leastsaidsoonestscrewed · 24/06/2023 09:10

DustyLee123 · 23/06/2023 08:56

So now everyone will be wearing it. Are you on commission 🤣🤣

I won't 😬

I do apologise! I hadn't seen it.

Same for me. I have large boobs and shirring and layers and anything puffy makes me look enormous because it sticks out because of my boobs and then just hangs down without going in as tighter material would. In reality I'm fairly slim but shirring and anything puffy looks really awful when you have large boobs- exactly like a milk maid

@NotmyRLname nope, most models look beautiful. Your insecurity and jealously is showing. If they looked awful, why would they be booked?

NotmyRLname · 24/06/2023 10:30

@pillock I never said they look awful just said they are a certain body type and that these dresses don’t suit it. Also just because M&S think they look great doesn’t mean they do to everyone.. look at the catwalk.. Beauty is subjective.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 24/06/2023 10:42

JimnJoyce · 23/06/2023 20:17

@ChiefWiggumsBoy do you know what material the green dress is please? I cant see it anywhere on the web site. And whats it like in the heat?

It's 100% viscose, I genuinely thought it was pure cotton it's really cool and lovely. I wish they had it in other colours.

Also @Fraida asked about the bust area - it's not sewn in or anything so you can adjust to your liking, I wear a normal bra and get good coverage. It's part of the plus size range so quite generous all over.

Thank you, yes I am on the hunt now for other clothes in blues… been looking through the John Lewis sale.

I can’t wear yellow as I look like I have a gastric bug!

Shapeless, rail thin, straight up and down and no boobs or bum... the a very non-descriptive word like 'curvy' to describe who it would look better on.

...a round about way of deriding the model's looks.

Just cramming in as many negative descriptors as you can, basically.

M&S want to sell clothes and make them look aspirational. To why choose models that do that.
