So I bought a new dress yesterday and have been stopped at work and in shops to ask where I got it, its really flattering and a lovely colour so if anyone is looking for a new dress I'd highly recommend this one 😃Floral Square Neck Midi Smock Dress

With its striking floral print, this dress offers a stylish choice for daywear. It's cut in a comfy regular fit, with a flattering square neckline and short sleeves to make it ideal for warmer weather. All-over smocking gives a figure-hugging shape thr...

Personally I think a denim jacket will look nice with this dress, but I believe that a denim jacket is a classic, and is never outdated! A bomber jacket would also look good.

Very Aunt Beryl. 🫣

Just don’t wear a denim jacket and white pumps with it.

Please.

But what does this even mean? "Aunt Beryl" is surely well into her nineties by now.

Why the "please"? What terrible thing will happen if the OP wears her dress with a denim jacket and white pumps??

It’s too late I’ve already worn white trainers and a denim jacket with it 😮

Were you happy with that look?

If so, who cares what someone on MN thinks.

BreezySunnyDay · 30/06/2023 12:26

@Fraida I bet you looked amazing!

I've got into 50s dresses and had a lot of compliments on the days I wore them.

I'm a 12 but I think they would suit larger or smaller women as they flare out, making the waist to hip ratio look better on every body.

Where do you buy them?

porridgeisbae · 30/06/2023 16:03

@ChocChipHandbag One I found in a charity shop and it went down so well that I splashed out (I never buy new things) and bought two other ones. I wanted halter neck as I have a longish body and with those you can adjust where the waist falls.

I'm catholic so I put something under it for modesty as it can show a bit of cleavage. :)

There are lots of other sites if you trawl the web for 50s swing dresses, but those happened to be where I found one or two that were halter neck.

It's got zero shape to it.

This. It looks like a sac, a brightly coloured one. I can't imagine what people were talking about op 🙈

DeliciouslyDecadent · 01/07/2023 12:26

Too big a pattern, too flouncy for smaller people, hard to hide bra straps.

Other than that it's marvellous.

Lucy377 · 01/07/2023 13:02

I'm flatish chested with a bigger tummy like and shirred or elasticated waist just makes me look pregnant as the tummy beneath the shirring is emphasised.
Probably fine if you have bigger boobs to push the shirring out.
