So I bought a new dress yesterday and have been stopped at work and in shops to ask where I got it, its really flattering and a lovely colour so if anyone is looking for a new dress I'd highly recommend this one 😃Floral Square Neck Midi Smock Dress

Floral Square Neck Midi Smock Dress

With its striking floral print, this dress offers a stylish choice for daywear. It's cut in a comfy regular fit, with a flattering square neckline and short sleeves to make it ideal for warmer weather. All-over smocking gives a figure-hugging shape thr...

Much as I admire M&S who seem to have turned a corner, I can't help but notice that this dress and another I saw in store in a combined orange and bright pink colour way bear a very strong resemblance to two dresses I bought last year in the River Island sale!

Mothwingdust · 24/06/2023 10:56

The colour really suits you op but I really do not like that dress it has a sort of techno milkmaid off to a rave look about it.

EvelynBeatrice · 24/06/2023 10:59

Ignore the nasty comments OP. You look great. Obviously people suit different things, so it wouldn't be for everyone. In my middle age having always loved clothes I have come to the conclusion that the one thing that makes the biggest difference is colour. You look fabulous in those colours. Everything else is secondary.

NotmyRLname · 24/06/2023 11:34

It’s a lovely colour on you @Fraida! I’m paler than you but find turquoisey blues suit me too so I might try this dress. :-)

blahblahblah1654 · 24/06/2023 11:35

It's lovely. I'm short and a bit curvy so I'd look ridiculous in it though.

LauraTheOtter · 24/06/2023 12:07

lol at the blatant M&S plug Grin

Is it tiered? check.
Is there a large, luminous pattern? check.
Is it voluminous and built to disguise the body? check.
Is it thin and unlined? check.
Could I fit 10 boobs in it or a small army? check.

That's M&S!

I’m bemused at the idea that I am some sort of M&S influencer.. if you knew my job you would know that nothing could be further from the truth. Why are people on Mumsnet such a cynical and acidic bunch 😉

Off the back of my last thread I purchased this dress from Phase Eight to wear to a military do thing Piper Ombre Maxi Dress

I am some what bewildered by the responses - anyways I love my new dress which gave me a much needed boost as I have really lost my way in my 40s with my style and what suits me. I just - foolishly clearly - wanted to celebrate in my rare sartorial success 😢

Yeah I've been accused of shilling something before when I wasn't - it was so annoying and derailed the thread. I feel your pain, OP!

I have too and I find it bizarre. I posted once about a charlotte tilbury skin product and got loads of nasty replies telling me I was obviously working for them and was paid to post. It was utterly ridiculous- I work for the NHS, never worked in makeup or skincare in my life. But it seems you cant ever mention a brand name without being accused and scolded. How the fck are people meant to recommend anything they've tried and liked ever? "Oh I found this great product, but I'm not going to tell you what it is because clearly some people will assume I am schilling it" 🙄

Rainraingoaway21 · 24/06/2023 13:42

OP it is a lovely dress - people need to remember what suits one person will not suit another. There is nothing offensive about it so need for others to use such abrupt language.

That blue Phase Eight dress is absolutely gorgeous! Wish I had an occasion and excuse to buy it!

Enjoy your new purchases!

lurchermummy · 24/06/2023 14:42

OP it does look great on you and you have a great figure ahem pair of boobs

darkmodeon · 24/06/2023 16:11

I can't stand it. It screams "beach wear" to me. But it would be boring if we were all the same

This one is LOVELY

mybluemerc · 24/06/2023 16:33

I love the M@S summer dress collection but always put off by someone else might be wearing it

JuliaLilian · 24/06/2023 18:01

Where are the dresses for us short people this summer?? Big long dresses with huge sleeves look ridiculous if you’re short! ☹️

ChocChipHandbag · 24/06/2023 18:10

I really love the colour and pattern (not often you see that sort of teal around), you look great in the pic and I have surprised myself at liking how I look in shirred, tiered dresses (I just bought a sleeveless one).

The nasty responses to your post are gratuitously vicious and say more about the posters than they do about your style. I think it is a lovely thing to have posted about something that (a) makes you happy (b) other people complimented and (c) might make other people happy. And respect for posting a photo of yourself!

Sadly what makes some people happy is posting unkind comments anonymously on internet forums.

Enjoy your dress!

Frazzledmummy123 · 24/06/2023 18:31

Your recommendations have worked, it's all out of stock 😂. It is a nice dress and you really suit it.

I have the blouse in this print and it's lovely. Glad you like it OP.

It looks lovely. But how anyone can wear viscose in high summer is beyond me.

BeedleTheBored · 25/06/2023 12:10

I ordered that dress weeks ago, but it looked dreadful on me and got sent back. It is gorgeous tho, so glad it works for others.
Ordered a linen dress at the same time from M&S which I have kept, and it’s lovely. And feels very cool on.

TheMurderousGoose · 25/06/2023 13:14

What's with all the vinegar titted people falling over themselves to let the OP know how much they hate her dress? What a sad little life, Jane!

Enjoy your dress, OP.

savemyusername1 · 25/06/2023 13:41

Shame it’s viscose. Might look nice but don’t think it would feel nice to wear in this heat!

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 25/06/2023 13:45

The dress I bought is viscose. It's very breathable, I thought it was cotton before I checked the label <shrug>
