My DH suggesting I'm "getting old" because I've ordered from Seasalt

WoofWoofBeachLife · 08/06/2023 07:27

I saw a lovely wee dress last night on Seasalt, I have some money saved for a clothes makeover and decided to go for it. My DH said last night it was nice but isn't Seasalt for older women 😆 I'm 51 in July and I don't think it looks like an OAP website. Now I'm thinking, shit should I send it back?
I just want a few quality pieces I can add to, I've not bought myself anything in a long long time due to illness. We are going shopping to a shopping centre on Sunday and I'm reluctant to browse with him hovering now x

See what it’s like when you get it, and don’t ask him for fashion advice again !

EVHead · 08/06/2023 07:28

Im amazed he’s heard of Seasalt!

Their stuff is mostly lovely, great quality. Unlike your DH’s ageism!!!

Theos · 08/06/2023 07:29

It’s a bit naff

Theos · 08/06/2023 07:29

And I’m 53

SheilaFentiman · 08/06/2023 07:31

I have several seasalt tops and have done for years. Ignore your DH!

twilightcafe · 08/06/2023 07:31

He's not wrong, though. Seasalt is not for youngsters.

Floisme · 08/06/2023 07:31

I'm an OAP. Would you like my opinion?

Doyouthinktheyknow · 08/06/2023 07:32

I like some of their dresses, I’m 48.

Generally I have no place in style and beauty but I don’t think they are old person’s clothes, more not in the slightest exciting or edgy.

Singleandproud · 08/06/2023 07:32

I wear Seasalt and I'm in my 30s, they are no different to Fat Face, Joules etc. Wear what you like.

IglesiasPiggl · 08/06/2023 07:36

Where does your DH shop then? I have been buying from Seasalt since my early thirties. I shop by quality not by some bloke's perception of who else should be shopping there.

Tudorfish · 08/06/2023 07:36

Some on S&B think it's cool to sneer at Seasalt but they have some gorgeous stuff. Where does your DH get his clothes from?

Mutabiliss · 08/06/2023 07:38

And where does he buy his clothes, if he's such a fashion icon?

They're obviously not 'young person' clothes, but do you really want to wear what 14 year olds are wearing? Seasalt clothes are (mostly) good quality which is hard to find nowadays, perhaps not very exciting, but great for everyday life. Definitely not an elderly shop!

CatfoodOzymandias · 08/06/2023 07:40

I don't like everything they have, but I do like that they have so much cotton. The trendier brands are almost 100% polyester or recycled polyester.

Their coats are fantastic.

Meadowfly · 08/06/2023 07:41

I think 50+ is probably their target market. I do think their stuff is shockingly overpriced though, or I’d buy some.

youveturnedupwelldone · 08/06/2023 07:41

I love seasalt, I must also be ancient (I'm just over 40!).

I hate synthetic fabrics and seasalt does some top quality cotton clothes.

Xrays · 08/06/2023 07:41

I think it’s aimed at women exactly your age ish (and mine, I’m 42). I wouldn’t say older. But who cares, if you like something wear it, doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks, including your dh.

Hillrunning · 08/06/2023 07:41

Well 51 isn't particularly young and everyone on the planet is always 'getting older' so I don't really see the issue?

If it appeals to you, fits and is in your price range, then it is the right product for you.

Worldgonecrazy · 08/06/2023 07:42

I think it’s great your husband cares what you wear, it shows he is still interested in you.

I also agree that Seasalt is 95% frumpy. But if you like the dress why not try it on as it may look great, or it might not. You won’t know unless you try.

Xrays · 08/06/2023 07:42

Cotton traders and Weird Fish are similar to Seasalt in terms of fabric and style but much cheaper.

User18540964 · 08/06/2023 07:42

I find they are very good quality and mainly cotton, suitable for everyday wear, their target market is probably 40-75 so obviously some OAPs which I will be one next year will shop there

MySoCalledWife · 08/06/2023 07:43

I have 2 Seasalt dresses with a nipped in waist that DH says are sexy and pretty

they are good quality cotton and can survive a thousand washes

i never think of them as sexy though 😁

PeskyRooks · 08/06/2023 07:44

So you saw a dress and liked it and now you're doubting yourself and wanting to send it back because a man made an ageist comment.

I think that's really sad.

And you're 51. Yes you are not considered young any more and there's nothing wrong with that but for what it's worth I've seen loads of younger people wearing seasalt but that shouldn't matter!

HidingInAForest · 08/06/2023 07:44

I love seasalt but I think it's probably 35+. Which isn't a problem. We're buying for quality and nice fabric over fast fashion ...

Xrays · 08/06/2023 07:45

Lucy and Yak are the Seasalt of the younger generation.

BanditsOnTheHorizon · 08/06/2023 07:45

I'm 50 and wear a few bits fro Seasalt, I'd never got the impression it was for old people. See what it's like when it arrived if you like it, keep it.
