My DH suggesting I'm "getting old" because I've ordered from Seasalt

WoofWoofBeachLife · 08/06/2023 07:27

I saw a lovely wee dress last night on Seasalt, I have some money saved for a clothes makeover and decided to go for it. My DH said last night it was nice but isn't Seasalt for older women 😆 I'm 51 in July and I don't think it looks like an OAP website. Now I'm thinking, shit should I send it back?
I just want a few quality pieces I can add to, I've not bought myself anything in a long long time due to illness. We are going shopping to a shopping centre on Sunday and I'm reluctant to browse with him hovering now x

Well if he's buying designer clothes thinking that makes him better than you he's a mug, they're ridiculously overpriced and often made in sweatshops like everything else. He honestly doesn't sound like a very nice person 😬

@RampantIvy I have the same problem with the washed out colours, as a winter. I wish they'd just turn the brightness up a bit on everything! I can get away with some of the greens and blues but nothing yellowy or red. Same in Fatface.

Same! Ditto White Stuff and Fat Face. The odd bold colour would be wonderful!

Ragwort · 08/06/2023 08:23

I can't believe your DH would even comment on what you wear ... I can't bear clothes snobs (male or female). What I wear has nothing to do with my DH and I wouldn't dream of listening to his opinion (if he even had one), just as I don't care what he wears ... in over 30 years of marriage I don't think we have ever been 'clothes shopping' together .... can't think of anything worse.

LittleBearPad · 08/06/2023 08:24

He’s a charmer isn’t he.

hanahsaunt · 08/06/2023 08:25

I love it but not many things suit me when on. Dh calls it the Macs and Sacks shop 🤣

Followill · 08/06/2023 08:25

My mum is in her 70s and thinks places like Seasalt, White Stuff and Boden are for 'little old ladies'. 🤣

I'm in my 40s and have the same mental hang ups about M&S. It is where 'middle aged mums' shop. And yes, I AM a middle aged mum. 🤣🤣

Presentideasplease · 08/06/2023 08:26

Actually I ordered something from Seasalt recently, tried it on, and felt much older than my years. I sent it back and probably won’t shop there again.

Sorry to Seasalt, but doesn’t feel like a young and fun brand!

Simianwalk · 08/06/2023 08:28

Seasalt are aimed at middle class women 40 plus who aren't massively into fashion. It's a definite type. Nowt wrong with buying thing aimed at what you are!

Wbeezer · 08/06/2023 08:29

I avoid the patterned items and wouldn't wear it head to toe but lots of their things are good quality basics in nice colours and fabrics and it's hard to find these days.
When is your DH going to allow you to dress " older" whatever that is...

User18540964 · 08/06/2023 08:29

It's not a young and fun brand but OP is over 50...

Cotton traders and Weird Fish are similar to Seasalt in terms of fabric and style but much cheaper.

I have lots of Cotton Traders and Seasalt clothes. They really aren't comparable in style or quality.

I buy Cotton Traders for everyday stuff and Seasalt for something I can feel good in, either dressed up or down.

I love Seasalt clothes, but I'm also in my late 50's. I would say they are designed for women in their mid 30's and older.

lastminutewednesday · 08/06/2023 08:31

The sandals have a bit of a cult following I think even amongst younger people, but the rest of it is aimed at people over 45 I would say-definitely not OAP territory though

Floisme · 08/06/2023 08:31

Errm my husband and I comment on each other's clothes all the time. We can be quite brutal with each other. We sometimes go shopping together too.

quietnightmare · 08/06/2023 08:31

In my 20s
Never looked at sea salt before just checked out their website and looked at the dresses. I like and would wear most of them and their jumpsuits.

It's not for 'old' people. Also the advert on there page and models are various ages.

Absolutely keep the dress

FishHeadsAndTales · 08/06/2023 08:32

I have a goodly amount of Seasalt, and I really like it. I avoid the prints and tend to buy the classic plainer items..Breton tops, Cullotes, Cords, Jackets, Coats, Knitwear, etc.. All of them are brilliant quality and wash and wear really well. I wear them with things like Doc Martens, etc which I feel "updates" them a bit. May be fooling myself there. I do get a lot of compliments though.

You’re thinking of Saltwater sandals I think? Not from Seasalt.

RampantIvy · 08/06/2023 08:33

I can't bear clothes snobs either @Ragwort, and there are plenty on Style and Beauty, unfortunately.

I wear clothes that suit me and fit me well regardless of the brand.

User18540964 · 08/06/2023 08:36

Yes, I think the sandals are Saltwater, I'm nearly an OAP and have just ordered some Boardwalks, not sure what their demographic is meant to be

pumpkintits · 08/06/2023 08:37

I'm early 30s and never shopped in Seasalt. I've just had a look on their website to take a look, they have some nice things but a bit pattern heavy for my tastes. Looks very much in the same style as Fat Face and Mantaray.

If you like the dress, I don't think it matters where you bought it from.

Screamingabdabz · 08/06/2023 08:37

I agree with DH - unflattering styles and colours and every garment looks like it’s already had a life and given up.

My red flag would be having a husband with a forensic knowledge of women’s clothing brands. Is he secretly wearing yours when you go out? Maybe Seasalt doesn’t make him feel very sexy?

Paq · 08/06/2023 08:41

I assume your husband is Dorian Gray? Trust me, in a couple of years he'll be ordering those chinos advertised in the magazines that come with the Sunday papers.

Seasalt has great fabrics and is aimed at grownups of any age.

Odile13 · 08/06/2023 08:44

I’m 37 and wear Seasalt clothes. I like a lot of things about their clothes. I don’t care what anybody else thinks!

Testino · 08/06/2023 08:45

What does it matter? Are older people and OAP the scum of the earth that it's so bad to be compared to them?

Even if it's for them and you happen to like it, wear it. Everyone's getting old, you may as well do so gracefully than shamefully.

Aixellency · 08/06/2023 08:47

I suppose some people might be puzzled by posters on a Style and Beauty board professing their disdain for both style and beauty, but there are plenty on Style and Beauty, unfortunately.

I liked it because of the colour and also the fabric against my skin at the moment. Anything restrictive I can't have, I need loose. Xx

I'm 53 and have several Pier View dresses, they're lovely and really flattering, I get loads of compliments when wearing them. I just wish they had pockets!

Fannieannie63 · 08/06/2023 08:51

2 things I never ask my hubby 1: what to wear 2: colours and soft furnishings when decorating.
He’s lovely but hasn’t a clue on trends and fashion etc.
ignore him and dress how you want you know what suits you best.
