Today has put me off floral dresses 😩

I live on the south coast and had a day in the nearest big town today. I had been feeling pretty pleased with the floral dresses I'd bought ready for summer, but after wandering around today I've just totally gone off them. I just feel saturated with seeing floral dresses all day. I love a floral dress as much as the next person but they all started to blend into one, a uniform of floral dresses often paired with the same kind of shoe, it was all a bit much in the end. Anyone else feeling the same?

if it's cold enough for me to need a jacket it's too cold for a dress. If it's maybe 20c I'll wear a cardigan.

So nobody in Scotland is ever allowed to wear a dress?

You know exactly what I meant🙄.

I don't wear dresses until it's at least 25c (unless it's winter when I wear tights) but that's me as I feel the cold. Everyone is different and everyone feels hot or cold differently.

For me it's not actually the floral print but the whole outfit of dress, denim jacket and white trainers.

I disagree.
I much prefer dresses so wear them regardless, else I'd never be able to wear them most years in the uk!

Leggings under a long dress give me an extra layer.
A jacket or cardi helps.

I wear dresses all winter too - tights and a cardi or jacket if necessary inside.

SpringNotSprung · 03/06/2023 08:25

I wear dresses 4-5 days of the week. I don't own white trainers or a denim jacket .

I wear dresses all the time. Different weight of material depending on the season/ in winter put a thermal vest under / opaque tights/boots.

I'm in Scotland - don't own trainers or a denim jacket.

faffadoodledo · 03/06/2023 08:32

I sometimes wear a sweatshirt or sweater over a floral dress. If the dress can't be worn 'as a skirt' it's not working hard enough!

I love my dresses.

So sensible in the summers we're having at the moment. I do think climate change is playing a part in their popularity.

Tiddler39 · 03/06/2023 09:42

@faffadoodledo

I like this too - especially a slightly cropped jumper over a dress.

I also love a dress than can be worn in both summer and winter and genuinely work. That’s the holy grail.

Come to Canada for a break. I have not once seen this look.

Plenty of dresses with trainers in Quebec!

The great thing about a midi/maxi length is that you can hide a vest and a pair of long knickers underneath it. Asexual isn’t always a bad thing!

In a sea of stupidity, this stands out.

Down my way yesterday - women incorporating two things talked about on here recently - floral dresses and granny knickers! Cool and airy.

Those two have fabulous pairs of pins on them! Grin

That must be an early winner in today's MN daftest post of the day competition.

It’s just a ridiculous description of a floral dress. A-fucking-sexual. Whatever.

SharonKaren · 04/06/2023 19:49

Do polka dot dresses or skirts (white tee, white trainers) count as dull too now? Are they part of this clan of passe style? (I still love a polka dot...)

shadowchancesassy · 04/06/2023 22:20

I was out Friday night in london, went to a fancy restaurant then to see Micky Flanagan. Everyone and their mum was in a floral dress, denim jacket and white trainers. It doesn't look flattening on any age and size it just looks frumpy and sack like 🤦🏻‍♀️

DietQueen2023 · 04/06/2023 22:31

I wore a bright pink leopard print midi dress, denim jacket and Stan Smiths today. I am a cliche 😆

Hidinginaonesie · 04/06/2023 23:46

I think they look gorgeous on other people. But I just feel ridiculous in them. I think I’m too tall, too flat chested and skinny and not feminine enough to pull them off. My feet are too big to wear trainers with a dress too so the look is a total no no for me.

Cornchip · 05/06/2023 02:24

GoodVibesHere · 02/06/2023 07:29

You're wearing the same floral dresses as everyone else but on you it's a different vibe because you have an edgy style?! No, it's still just another floral dress Grin

There's nothing wrong with the look I guess, but I don't like the way that all the shops churn out the same stuff so there's a lack of choices around but tons and tons of floral dresses.

I’d have to disagree, actually. The way you accessorise and style a piece of clothing can hugely transform how it looks on you. Yes, it is just a “floral dress”, but that can be said for every single item of clothing on the market.

I don’t really think shops “churn out the same stuff” at all, unless you’re only shopping in stores which all have the same target market? Then that would be fairly obvious. Boden and Urban Outfitters, as an example, have absolutely nothing in common with the lines they stock. Zara and H&M are much more similar, though.

There’s never been more variety of clothing options available. Even with the example of floral dresses, you can get a floral dress in umpteen different patterns, colours, cuts, necklines, lengths. They all look completely different. And that’s before you style it with different shoes, bags, jackets, and so on.

Applesinmyhouse · 05/06/2023 13:49

No one wears that around here. Everyone wears leggings, or cycle shorts in various colours. I like a midi dress but generally in plain black.

I’ve seen no one in cycle shorts round me. Plenty of floral dresses though.

Delatron · 05/06/2023 14:59

I’ve never worn them as just not my style. I prefer a plain block colour dress and now I refuse to wear them with white trainers as everyone else does. And I’ve had to ditch the denim jacket. I feel happier in wide leg trousers, vest top etc.

SaxSick · 19/06/2023 07:53

I'm currently in Europe and yes the dress and trainer combo is alive ( not the big chunky trainers though) - the youngsters are dressed head to foot in goth type black but hey we all went through that phase. In fact I bought a new pair hahahaha!

Kimchikeffir · 19/06/2023 09:03

Floral dresses are lovely, I’m really missing them this year. The winter uniform of jeans and black clothing has spilled into the summer, it’s so depressing. I mean at least dresses have more variety than jeans
