Today has put me off floral dresses 😩

I live on the south coast and had a day in the nearest big town today. I had been feeling pretty pleased with the floral dresses I'd bought ready for summer, but after wandering around today I've just totally gone off them. I just feel saturated with seeing floral dresses all day. I love a floral dress as much as the next person but they all started to blend into one, a uniform of floral dresses often paired with the same kind of shoe, it was all a bit much in the end. Anyone else feeling the same?

They aren’t wildly exciting but they are comfortable and bright,

My gran used to say that about her elasticated crimpolene trousers. 😂

Missingmyusername · 02/06/2023 05:17

Floral dress, little jacket, white trainers- yes it’s worn like a uniform. Each to their own but I’m not a fan.

Neverinamonthofsundays · 02/06/2023 05:23

Have never had one nor will I but they can look nice on some women. They are not flattering to every shape though. They would do nothing for me for sure.

Hillrunning · 02/06/2023 05:24

As another poster said. No different than the jean/shorts and top combo that men have been wearing as a uniform for decades, not just a few summers.

Who cares? As for commenting that they often look asexual...Good god. How dare all these women going about on their holidays not look sexual? What will the poor men perv over?

Ffsmakeitstop · 02/06/2023 05:38

Love floral dresses usually with flip flops which I wear practically all year.
Never owned a denim jacket.

Duckskitbank · 02/06/2023 05:40

@Rummykitten watch some footage of Chelsea Flower Show and you’ll soon get the idea. I was looking out for some friends who were there but it was impossible! Like Where’s Wally for middle aged women.

Kind of sad you bought things you loved and now you care so much what other people are wearing you now don't want to wear them anymore.Must be exhausting to be so bothered by everyone else.

You're complaining about floral summer dresses? Really?

My only issue is that so many of them are icky, itchy polyester. It literally cooks me alive. Bring on the cotton or viscose flower prints in abundance! Lacy knitwear is a better topper than a rigid jacket though.

If you're looking to diss clothing items, then jeans and t-shirts have long since had their day!

So true about jeans- or jeans and trainers or jeans and trainers and a drab puffer coat. If anything is ubiquitous it's that look. Even now when it's getting warmer jeans and trainers are still the overwhelming look for most people, women and men.

I wear dresses all the time - have done for years- some are floral. I don't own a denim jacket or trainers.

The comment about their being "asexual" is both sad , in that OP thinks that might be a valid objection to wearing a floral dress, and hilarious.

Chchchchchangesss · 02/06/2023 06:02

I can't imagine caring this much about what other people are wearing, tbh. If you like it, wear it.

sparklefresh · 02/06/2023 06:04

I like them. Comfortable and, I think, look nice. Shockingly, I don't actually give a gnat's chuff about looking 'asexual' - I know, unbelievable.

LadyAstor · 02/06/2023 06:06

I dont wear floral dresses (prefer neutrals or block colours with leather sandals) but love seeing these types of dresses on other women.

I also wonder why men are never accused of being old fashioned and having a dated wardrobe of jeans and T-shirts.

Mummyoflittledragon · 02/06/2023 06:06

I’ve been wearing floral dresses on and off for a good decade. The first ones were from Boden and midi length. I moved to maxi after major abdominal surgery 5 years ago and have obviously noticed they have caught on recently and I have a lot more choice. Will continue to wear them in the foreseeable. Am threatening to update my white trainers though. They’re going out of fashion and I’m bored of them after 3 years.

Toddlerone · 02/06/2023 06:12

I had a 'window' in my 40s when I looked fab in them. Before that, they made me look like a little girl dressed in her mum's clothes. Now, in my early 50s, they make me look really granny-ish.

Yes, wearing a floral dress used to be a bit of a fancy thing to do, but now they've become mundane. And mostly- but not always- strikingly asexual
What about they feel comfortable, cool in the heat and don't care or worry that they're not showing their baps and arse just for the men. There are plenty other uniforms. Loads are out in the street in gym wear, leggings with the thong showing, tiny shorts. All looking the same too.

FangsForTheMemory · 02/06/2023 06:29

I like them but the other day I saw four women standing chatting. They were all wearing floral print dresses and the combined effort was not so good.

Thechameleonsshadow · 02/06/2023 06:31

I had this conversation with a friend last weekend after attending an event and noticed so many women sporting the floral dress, white trainers and little jacket look.

I think though it’s great in as much as it seems to be a bit of a no brainer which suits women of all ages and sizes so for that I think it’s a good choice. Not original but you could probably say that of many looks these days.

junebirthdaygirl · 02/06/2023 06:36

I was down town here in sunny lreland yesterday wearing a summer skirt and plain top. Everyone was in flowery dresses but l thought it was lovely as the sun was shining and it gave off a great Summer vibe. I always wore dresses...for years ..as they suit my shape and suddenly they are so popular.

BlackForestCake · 02/06/2023 06:51

Guineapig123 · 02/06/2023 06:51

Met my MIL the other day for lunch and even she said she had the ‘retired ladies uniform’ on. She had stood at a large London station and said all the ladies over 60 had the same hair style, a flowery dress, white trainers and denim jacket!

GCAcademic · 02/06/2023 06:51

And mostly- but not always- strikingly asexual.

The horror. It's so important for women to look sexual at all times.

Successstory82 · 02/06/2023 06:52

Perhaps a wedding In the vicinity?

because I see most women on a mid week summer day not wearing floral dresses!

Bananasinpjamas4567 · 02/06/2023 06:53

They are not for me, I have never worn floral as an andult and found wedding dress shopping really hard as the styles I liked all had floral lace! They do look lovely on other people though and I’m always very jealous they can wear them but on me it makes my skin crawl!

For men who are really into fashion, there's important detail in that jeans and tshirt look though, and they can discern current/not current. The shapes, the brands, the shoes etc. My young adult who's into that stuff is constantly churning his wardrobe.
