Today has put me off floral dresses 😩

I live on the south coast and had a day in the nearest big town today. I had been feeling pretty pleased with the floral dresses I'd bought ready for summer, but after wandering around today I've just totally gone off them. I just feel saturated with seeing floral dresses all day. I love a floral dress as much as the next person but they all started to blend into one, a uniform of floral dresses often paired with the same kind of shoe, it was all a bit much in the end. Anyone else feeling the same?

I see you qualified that with over 40...I do love this look on a young girl. Very rarely see it on older women where I live.

I love this for autumn and I'm 45!

Just a shoulder ish length bob type cut. Tbh I hadn’t noticed it but one of her friends said it to her and now she refers to it as uniform

If you're not interested in Style and Beauty, go and post about how you don't care about what people wear, ever, on the Appearances Don't Matter to Me board!

I don't think the idea of the style and beauty board is to trash other people's fashion choices though !

Guineapig123 · 02/06/2023 12:01

Sorry above was to @SaxSick

Does it matter though? It's just clothes. We all have opinions on clothes.

Have we had 'frumpy' yet? That ought to do it.

Karen - used in an attempt to silence women. Especially those annoying middle aged ones. Strange to see women actually using it.

I agree but we've had that one. Has 'mutton dressed as lamb' put in an appearance yet? That's another delight seen fairly regularly.

The woman @Drosselmeyer linked looks so dull . She looks like she votes for Tory but lies in the exit polls about it; a bit of a Karen. I think that's why I don't like the look.

This is so weird. Right now I'm wearing a floral dress, denim jacket, trainers, cross-body bag. But I'm also wearing this badge and bracelet. I'm being 100% serious as well - I genuinely am.

Will people think I'm lying?
(The badge is probably about 40 years old, it used to be my mum's and I wear it a lot - hence the condition!)

I think it matters when the OP is telling others they shouldn't be on the thread ! And you should be able to discuss fashion / style from a personal perspective without putting other people down.

MorrisZapp · 02/06/2023 12:19

I fucking love that badge! I wore 'nuclear power: no thanks' for much of the eighties too 😊 Good times!

Pigtailsandall · 02/06/2023 12:25

@MorrisZapp Its definitely not about your literal name, about being middle-aged or being vocal; I'm sure you know that. Being vocal about lots of things is a very good thing. To me, the image of the woman linked above conjured up a woman who pushes in front of a customer service queue at Waitrose cause she just needs something really quickly and she's double-parked and in a hurry. I don't know if it's the style or what, but that literally happened to me a few weeks back when a woman decided to ignore the entire queue because clearly what she needed was much more important and urgent. She was dressed almost exactly like that. Surely a coincidence, but it just puts me off the look even more.

Clementinesucks · 02/06/2023 12:27

I’ve been wearing floral maxi dresses (or skirts) since 2011 and I’m not about to stop now. I don’t wear them with white trainers though so maybe that makes it ok :-)

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 02/06/2023 12:28

You don't think you're projecting just a little bit there @Pigtailsandall ???

BeginningToLookALotLike · 02/06/2023 12:29

So maybe we put a bit more of our own personality into our accessories when wearing floral dresses and the rest.

What an absolutely cringe thing to say.

Even my 16 year old dd wouldn't be caught dead saying something as childish as this.

MorrisZapp · 02/06/2023 12:32

I ain't doing the Karen meme on S&B, it's sooo 2017 anyway 😂👍

Yeah, probably. But part of how we see fashion and style is the associations we have that come with those. I've often experienced snooty behaviour from home-county women who look down on me because of my north American accent and yeah, it makes me feel a bit shite. Lot of them dress like the catalogue woman. So for me, it's certainly not a style to aspire to, plus to me I tend to associate with dullness. It can look good on some women, but not on all so don't think it's a universally good look.

So what were YOU wearing whilst standing meekly in the queue at Waitrose?

Band t shirt?
Vintage Viv Westwood dress?
Seasalt mini and birkies?
Do tell

Is it?

Downsizeddumpling · 02/06/2023 12:37

Well a very unscientific spot of people watching has lead me to the conclusion that it’s not a look that is ubiquitous in my part of the country in a busy city centre. I don’t think I have spotted it at all so far.

PeskyRooks · 02/06/2023 12:38

Yay I had that nuclear power badge as well @MorrisZapp!
I thought I still had it but sadly no.
I have still got this one though:

If it's "meek" to stand in a queue waiting for your turn and letting others who got there first take a turn, then you've pretty much proved my point.

SocksAndTheCity · 02/06/2023 12:45

Does this mean my Tufty Club badge is the new must-have accessory? I don't have a floral dress to put it on but I have a cross body bag with other badges already on it 😀

HeadNorth · 02/06/2023 12:53

Careful - that cross body bag will add pounds, you know.
