I have wasted so much money on "comfortable" sandals

Over the years. I end up with sandals that are neither pretty/stylish nor properly comfortable by trying to get something that fit both bills.

But these are OK? I think?

Air & Grace. Not cheap but extremely comfortable and stylish.

Birkenstocks give me blisters every year but these have been amazing. I have these: https://airandgracelondon.com/collections/sandals/products/lena-leopard-suede-sandals?variant=33132407947307
but I will probably invest in another style.

Air and grace are really really wide fitting - I think that’s why they are advertised as comfortable but no good at all if you have narrow feet.

Toomuchtrouble4me · 14/05/2023 23:59

Try Fly London. Very comfortable AND stylish. These ones are similar to those you chose, but with a bit more about them. The wedge heels are so comfy. Some are quite high but still comfortable, like wearing high heeled trainers.

The Seasalt ones have no arch support. How can they be comfy? They look flimsy

If your feet are healthy and strong, and the shoes are the right width you don't need arch support (I mean... the whole point of an arch usually is to be the support)

MissDynamite23 · 15/05/2023 06:12

@Toomuchtrouble4me my feet are more wide than narrow but not ‘wide’ in terms of fit definition. For me, comfort from air and grace comes from the footbed, the softness of the materials and the style that doesn’t rub in funny places.

The plastic bit on Teva’s rub my toe. I genuinely didn’t find them comfortable.

Notanothernewname · 15/05/2023 06:30

I think the OPs choice is much nicer than some of the monstrosities suggested. Only thing I'd change is the sole but other than that they're okay.

What is with ugly clumpy shoes? If your feet are over a certain size they'll look ridiculous.

As for Birkenstocks, they're bloody uncomfortable (and ugly).

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/05/2023 06:43

Eek those YSL ones show that money can’t always solve the problems people might face. Show me some really comfortable sandals asks the OP. Here, buy three nasty pairs for around 2 grand, including a men’s pair, says somebody.

Chunky is in & is often very comfortable.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 15/05/2023 07:02

I like them OP. I find Gabor shoes comfortable, and they do half sizes, which is part of the problem with things being comfortable for me (I walk miles in my commute/job). Birkenstocks fall off my feet, they seem too wide (I don't have narrow feet).

Anything with lots of thinner straps gives me multiple blisters!

I have a pair of Gabor ballet flats which are as comfortable as slippers.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/05/2023 07:08

I had some Gabor ones once after recommendations on here. They were a lot of money for me at the time. Unfortunately they gave me horrible blisters on the soles of my feet- I seemed to ‘stick’ to the lining of them somehow - I think it was leather. Looks like most of them are synthetic lined now, so might be different/better.

RampantIvy · 15/05/2023 07:10

Chunky might be "in" but I just don't find chunky footwear attractive. I don't need the extra height.

I don't need the extra chunky on already big feet. As I said over a certain size they'll make the person look ridiculous. You can also get comfort without ugly clumpy shoes. I spent all day walking round Olympus in Greece in a pair of gladiators from Next, not one blister, and they looked nice with the dress I was wearing.

But each to their own.

frankgu · 15/05/2023 07:25

That's your opinion though, I have friends with bigger feet then me & I don't think they look ridiculous. It's a very outdated view

You can also get comfort without ugly clumpy shoes

I never said you couldn't...

frankgu · 15/05/2023 07:30

I think it depends on the style personally. Some are lovely, some aren't. I'm 5ft 9 so not short but for me it's more about the outfit I'm wearing whether I want a heavier shoe or not.

Mythicalcreatures · 15/05/2023 07:45

I really think if you find a comfy sandal you may need to compromise on style. I have tried so many, often on recommendations from here, for me - hotter only for short distances, teva OK but not for long periods, m and s foot glove OK, fit flops pretty good, merrell absolute favourites. It is a bit of a gamble!

Cherry2456 · 15/05/2023 08:05

Hi i have had Gabor shoes before, I found the brand super comfortable and the leather very soft. I would recommend the brand.

It isn't "outdated". It's a personal view. I just don't like clumpy shoes or sandals.

frankgu · 15/05/2023 08:30

@RampantIvy my outdated reply was to the poster who was saying only people with small feet can wear chunky shoes....

frankgu · 15/05/2023 08:31

I'm assuming you're not the same poster?

FrauleinElsaMars · 15/05/2023 08:35

If you're looking for something with a slight heel I can highly recommend these. I've got them in a couple of colours and they're all I wear during the summer. Could walk for days in them and nice support.

Grin No. I take a size 5 in sandals.

Birkenstocks are genuinely like torture devices on me.

Me too! The moulding of the sole hits me in the wrong places and I end up with bruises on the bottom of my feel

Hardly outdated to say big feet would look ridiculous in clumpy shoes. My feet look like drag Queens in certain shoes as well. That's my personal opinion.

Good for your friends if they suit clumpy shoes. My feet don't.

If you struggle to wear Birkenstocks, Mephisto have similar styles but don’t need the same wearing in. I have a couple of pairs of their Helen style and I love them.

@Notanothernewname have you actually got anything helpful to contribute to the thread or are you just ranting about your big feet?
