I have wasted so much money on "comfortable" sandals

Over the years. I end up with sandals that are neither pretty/stylish nor properly comfortable by trying to get something that fit both bills.

But these are OK? I think?

I can’t recommend soft sole Saltwater sandals enough. They are so comfortable. Happy shopping.

Tracker1234 · 15/05/2023 13:57

I am a Russell and Bromley girl. Love their shoes but for sheer comfort and walking around you cannot beat either Hotter or go into a independent shoe shop and they will have walking sandals some of which are like walking on air!

I like velco type straps as they seem to make the shoes very flexible. I have narrow feet though and ankle straps just never have enough holes

BurbageBrook · 15/05/2023 13:57

In a similar vein, can anyone recommend comfortable sandals for wide feet?

Livinginanotherworld · 15/05/2023 14:39

Reiker are my favourite for comfy sandals

Hotter do extra wide fittings. I have wide feet but their standard fits me.

Apologies if it has already been mentioned but Moshulu is worth a look

I have these which are super comfortable, cork footbed with soft suede lining and leather straps:

They also have these if you prefer more of a wedge sole:

I have tried 3 different times with birkenstocks and have had horrendous blisters every time.

@Bluemuf IMO these are a more stylish version of the sandals you linked to in the OP. I bought two pairs of Fitflops in 2017 and have worn them to bits and they are still going strong. The floral slides have just faded slightly as I've been in the sea with them and have some pink sparkly ones which still look like new and I wear them so often in summer. At the time with plantar fasciitis they were the only sandals I could wear comfortably. I don't have it now but a lot of the sandals on here would be too flat for me to wear all day, whereas the Fitflops are like wearing trainers with arch support.

The only comfortable sandals I’ve ever brought were from Sketchers, Hotter or the walking shoe company Karrimor (Sports Direct often have them)

Feet are horrible.

Cover them.

Oh grow up.

If you don't like them don't look, meanwhile the rest of us can prioritise comfortable weather appropriate footwear.

Feet are normal body parts don't tell people their body is horrible.

Pineapplepansy · 15/05/2023 16:03

Fitflops are insanely comfortable. When I did the macmillan 26 mile mighty hike I took off my trainers after 10 miles and did the last 16 hilly miles in my fitflops and they were so easy to hike in.

Tallcurves · 15/05/2023 17:16

@Bluemuf

cloud walkers
Walking cradles

search these and they are both USA brands and super comfortable

I mean, it depends on how old you are. 65 plus, maybe. Anything under, absolutely not. Sorry.

These are really not stylish, the beige sole is not good at all

Jellycats4life · 15/05/2023 17:33

Oh this thread is for me! Sandals are the most difficult type of footwear for me. I have small but wide feet (tragically, one foot now has a worsening bunion making it even wider), high arches that could do with support, and the slightest friction has me limping and losing layers of skin.

I’ve worn and loved Birkenstocks in the past. The last few years or so I’ve worn Menorcan style sandals (like the Solillas brand) but the soles are super thin and flat so I’d like something sturdier and more supportive. Love the look of the Dr Martens gladiator sandals but I know they’re really heavy and also worried about them shredding my feet 😭

I need to go through this thread and look up some of the recommendations. I remember my Nan used to have the Hotter catalogue in her house 😅 Will I have to resort to Nan footwear?

Heaven forbid you'd choose to feel comfortable before the age of 65. Don't be so silly.

@Squ1ggle I like those.

Alwayswonderedwhy · 15/05/2023 18:31

@RampantIvy no I'm not a teen. Plenty of grown women wear Birkenstocks.

There’s plenty of clothes and shoes that are comfortable without looking like they’re targeted at people of a certain age. These sandals aren’t them.

But there's absolutely nothing to stop the OP wearing them if she wants to, however old or young she is. Shoes don't come with warnings, like children's toys.

Absolutely, however the OP did ask if they’re stylish. In my opinion, they’re not stylish for a younger person. They’re more suited to an older person.

LoisLane23 · 15/05/2023 18:48

I've just bought these UGG ones in a panic buy before a hefty walking city break. Ridiculously comfy? Wore for 8 hours for 3 days, not a blister in sight. Not cheap but probably won't date either.

Saltwaters seem to really divide people. I honestly find them the most comfortable sandals I own because, as a PP said, they are almost like barefoot shoes. Absolute heaven to wear for me, I prefer them to my birkies and AGS which are comfortable but seem to tire my feet more after a long day walking.

On the other hand I have a pair of fitflops that I only wear when I know I won't be doing a lot of walking. I hate that the weird big sole disconnects me from the ground, it's like walking on giant marshmallows and feels as unstable as that suggests. So worse that just uncomfortable (although I don't rate them for comfort either).

Shoes can be very personal and if you don't get on with Saltwaters that doesn't mean I'm lying any more than those who rate Fitflops are lying.
