I have wasted so much money on "comfortable" sandals

Over the years. I end up with sandals that are neither pretty/stylish nor properly comfortable by trying to get something that fit both bills.

But these are OK? I think?

I've got plantar fasciitis and I can only wear Fitflops. I've got flip flops, trainers, boots and sandals.

Birkenstocks are only comfortable if you have unproblematic feet. Actually, any sandals with that kind of cork sole are bad news for problem feet

ISpyNoPlumPie · 16/05/2023 14:02

The most comfortable shoes I have - Moda in Pelle wedge sandals and Esska sandals. Birkenstocks and Saltwater are not comfortable sandals at all.

RavenT · 16/05/2023 15:14

I have a high arch and struggle to wear flat shoes. Each year I get the Ginger Ale from Moshulu (different colour) and they are unbelievably comfortable - like wearing a slipper but with gentle arch support. The leather is very soft. The only downside is they do tend to stretch a bit, so go down a size (I'm a 5.5-6, and order a 5).

JenJuni · 16/05/2023 16:40

I like them! I do think they’re pretty.

literalviolence · 16/05/2023 17:54

Fit flops are really wide. No good for people with narrow feet. Birkenstocks no good for people with really flat feet.

OP those sandals do look like something for an older generation for me but may be comfortable.

Good thread, I am going to explore options for narrower flat feet. Sandals are a nightmare!

Birkies totally helped my plantar fasciitis. They were the only shoes l could tolerate!

OP I feel your pain. This thread has just confirmed to me that there are no comfortable stylish sandals (at least of the kind i am looking for)

The only half pretty ones were the black Australian brand a PP posted

I wonder if it depends on how much padding your feet already have. I stand up all day in work. I feel like I've worn my feet away. I struggle in converse, as I feel like I'm slapping the ground. Saltwater always look like you'd feel every stone.

I'm OK in Converse but wouldn't choose them for a long walk because of the slapping thing (I wore Vejas which are similar when on holiday in London and my feet and legs ached after walking 10 miles). Saltwaters are much more comfortable for me than other sandals and I regularly choose to wear them for walking. And I'm not sure it's a padding issue, foot issues are more common in overweight women (I assume women rather than men because of heels), most likely a foot health issue.

I like them.

Scottishlanza · 16/05/2023 21:50

When I realised why most sandals were uncomfortable, ie fallen arches, I started buying Vionic sandals or Strive sandals with built in arch support. Loads of styles available and these were a game changer for me

Britinme · 16/05/2023 23:38

I have wide and slightly awkward feet and I find Finn Comfort sandals perfect for me. Pricey, but they last and last.

MsMartini · 17/05/2023 08:20

@RavenT , another Ginger Ale from Moshulu fan here. I buy a new pair every year. I've got awkward feet and would never have thought these would be so comfy but the arch support is just right.

I'm a big walker and wear trainers in summer for long walks but the Ginger Ales as are comfy and supportive as some "walking sandals" I've had.

Inspired by this thread I bought some Teva sandals, I m very happy with them and they only cost about £25.

RampantIvy · 17/05/2023 19:02

I am waiting for sandal wearing weather now.

@Blip can I ask where you bought the Teva from please? I can only find them for a lot more than that price.

@Ilovealido

I just bought a pair of the soft sole Saltwaters and find them very supportive and comfortable.

I wore them on a 4 hour walk on the first day and my feet felt fine the next day.

Thank you 🙏

Blip · 17/05/2023 19:56

@Outandup they were on eBay but brand new

Octomingo · 17/05/2023 21:52

Any good sandals for a hypermobile peroneal tondonitis sufferer?

Or should I just go for roller skates?

PaltnSepper · 19/05/2023 15:08

These are kind of similar to the ones in the OP but maybe a little more chunky. Does anyone think they'd be better? I find Gabor comfortable usually but am very unstylish and don't know how to find any that don't rub my easily blistered skin.

Or maybe the second ones, though I can see that the heel shape and sole might be a bit frumpy like the Yeo sandals but maybe the twist redeems it slightly ? These come in lots of colours though, and some with suede straps, which are often softer on my skin.

MerryChristmasToYou · 19/05/2023 15:54

@PaltnSepper , I'd get ones with both straps being adjustable.

WombatChocolate · 20/05/2023 11:19

Lots of people don’t realise Saltwater now offer a cushioned sole too. The adult ones are called Swimmer or Boardwalk. They are extremely comfortable.

I just looked at this brand having seen another thread. My god they're as flat as pancakes in the footbed, no support at all. Im so jealous of people who can just wear things like this
