I have wasted so much money on "comfortable" sandals

Over the years. I end up with sandals that are neither pretty/stylish nor properly comfortable by trying to get something that fit both bills.

But these are OK? I think?

I think you need to pick a lane with sandals - like you say trying to tick multiple boxes is the holy grail.

The closest I've found are these from Office, these are on the narrow side.

Saltwater sandals have pretty much zero support. I’ve tried them a few times over the years and never found them anything other than crippling to wear.

Birkenstocks are great but you cannot walk any distance in them or they’ll give you blisters.

I have a pair of Fitflops which are surprisingly comfortable and Gabor are generally very good. I don’t actually mind the sandals in the OP.

WhisperingAutistic · 14/05/2023 20:26

I'm one of those autistics who really struggles with footwear and the most comfortable sandals I have found are these by North Ridge. I've got two pairs, grey and blue and I wear them every day that isn't raining or snow on the ground.
I walk around 35 miles a week and have never once had a blister.
They probably aren't seen as attractive but boy are they comfortable.

JaffaCake70 · 14/05/2023 20:28

I bought these last year, they are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn.

I also love my Birkenstocks but the Hush Puppies have more support for walking longer distances.

Ultravox · 14/05/2023 20:26

I only ever wear Hush Puppies sandals now and buy at least one pair every single year. They are amazingly comfortable and never need broken in. These ones are v similar to your original suggestion:

You beat me to it 😄

Yellowcakestand · 14/05/2023 20:34

I second fit flops!
I've suggested with plantar fasciatis since Xmas. I recently went abroad and bought 3x pairs of them
Didn't have any probs at all

Swishhh · 14/05/2023 20:34

I think you need to actually go and try on lots of pairs. My thinking is out of 20 pairs 1 may actually be comfy.

frankgu · 14/05/2023 20:36

The ancient greek sandals comfort soles are good & I have some chunky Birkenstock style ones with straps (they stay on the foot then) that are great. Teva style are also good.

Fedupwitheveryone · 14/05/2023 20:38

OP i don't mind your choice -but prefer the tan ones, think they look more classic.
I've never been a Birkenstock fan but i'm sure they've just brought out something half decent that might work for you - https://www.birkenstock.com/gb/glenda-natural-leather/glenda-pureleather-naturalleather-0-eva-w_191.html

Not sure why after reading your brief so many posters on this thread are suggesting granny sandals that only fit the 'comfortable' request.

They don’t look very comfortable. Go to Clark’s and try some on.

frankgu · 14/05/2023 20:44

This are a nicer version of your link

and typically if you want comfort & style it's £££

MedievalMadness · 14/05/2023 20:45

The only sandals that are comfortable for me - lots of joint problems, arthritis and tendon problems, are Tevas. I’ve been trying for over 5 years to get any sandals I could walk in and happened upon tevas and was so happy.

Wellthatwasodd · 14/05/2023 20:45

I like quite a few of those hush puppy ones. I have Teva sandals in sand. Very comfortable and they are having a bit of moment - Urban Outfitters are selling the do they must be cool!

Birkenstock's are the most comfortable shoes known to mankind 😍

This

Just save your money and buy Birkenstocks. First pair might take a bit of getting used to, some styles need a couple of wears to soften up but they are so comfortable.

I have walked miles in my Madrids and have never had an issue, even after Skechers caused a plantar fascitis flare up.

Gizeh and Mayari need a tiny bit of breaking in but the Madrids are perfect from the first wear.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/05/2023 21:12

@Fedupwitheveryone So good to see the casual ageism alive and well on here.

The ones you’ve linked look nice but many people find Birkies impossibly uncomfortable. They are also no less ‘granny’ (whatever the fuck that means) than plenty of the others on here.

Bealtaine23 · 14/05/2023 21:14

I love Fantasy Sandals - they are Greek but a bit like Birkenstocks with a softer, bendy sole. Suede footbed, various heights from very flat to medium to wedges. So comfortable and not so expensive as the gorgeous Ancient Greek ones mentioned already. https://www.fantasy-sandals.gr/en
also stocked in some shops.

I recommend hotter. Saw me during my pregnancy and afterwards. They have adjustable straps at the front and in the heel and does allow bunions to be pain free.

I like 24 horas in Spain, they are comfy too.

EVHead · 14/05/2023 21:39

Loving the Heavenly Feet ones! I’ve ordered two pairs. ☺️

I can only assume that people who love Saltwaters have no arch problems. 🤷🏻‍♀️

ElmTree22 · 14/05/2023 18:47

Birkenstock's are the most comfortable shoes known to mankind 😍

I think they are horrendously uncomfortable!

Hotter do some comfortable shoes, though. They're not the most stylish, but you can at least walk long distances in them.

Blip · 14/05/2023 22:00

I find Saltwaters super uncomfortable- they are very flat and unsupportive with no padding underneath.

bigdecisionstomake · 14/05/2023 22:03

wtf - they're just plain ugly, neither pretty nor stylish.
