You know the wealthy classy look of understated expensive non branded clothes?

The ladies of Chelsea didn’t get the message. Just spent the day round Kensington and Chelsea, lots of ladies of all ages out and about. I assume they were relatively local as seemed to be meeting with friends in groups. Beautifully dressed, there were trainers galore but very few plain white ones. Still some vegas but plenty of golden goose and Gucci. One women in some wonderful shocking pink Gucci shoes and lots of general Gucci footwear, Women were wearing expensive beautiful casual outfits in shades of beige and cream. Cream cropped wide jeans. ,cream cotton jumpers. White T-shirts and one beautiful cream vashem ere wrap. But the mumsnet message that handbag branding needs to be discreet seems to have passed the ladies of Chelsea by. I would say that 90% of bags were Dior, YSL and Chanel worn by anyone from age about 18 -80 years old. Accessorised with a doodle, poodle or shihtzu of some form. Not a lab or working dog to be seen. So much for subtle and understated, May be true but not when it comes to bag or shoes

I thought we were supposed to have moved onto coloured trainers now?

NisekoWhistler · 09/04/2023 18:45

Most of us west/south west Londoners are at our holiday homes/skiing. The majority you will have seen today will be tourists

FKATondelayo · 09/04/2023 18:47

No woman who lives outside SW3 ever travels in to meet friends. It is known.

Trust me, they weren’t. Funnily enough some locals were actually home.

Why would you need a working dog if you live in Chelsea 😂

Obviously it’s the last thing you need but mumsnet dictates you must have a Labrador

sadly these cashmere-swathed unicorns and their labradors have retired to Norfolk or Cornwall for the bank holiday weekend in their filthy old Volvos. You merely saw the socially aspirant, you poor soul.

Hobbes8 · 09/04/2023 19:53

I have working springer spaniels. There’s not a hope in hell I would take them for a sedate lunch in Chelsea.

You are assuming wrong - no ‘local’ women hang out in groups with other women on Easter Sunday. You were witnessing the ‘bridge and tunnel’ brigade on a girls mini break

WarmWinterSun · 09/04/2023 20:05

‘You were witnessing the ‘bridge and tunnel’ brigade on a girls mini break’

Snobby American jargon. In poor taste. Not nice to read it here.

JonesDrones · 09/04/2023 20:17

@WarmWinterSun What does it mean?

BrieMine · 09/04/2023 20:23

You are quite correct about the Gucci, OP. At Soho Farmhouse it is de rigueur to bring your Gucci handbag to place on the table for everyone to see the label.

Yea clearly no late 20’s / 30’s women might meet their friends for a coffee on Easter Sunday, not one. I meant not one of them could possibly be relatively local when they bumped into people they didn’t expect to see or the 30 somethings talking about the local schools, private obviously, every single local had left the city,

@WarmWinterSun What does it mean?

It's a derogatory comment used to describe people who live outside Manhattan and commute in for work or to socialise because they can't afford to live there.

YouOKHun · 09/04/2023 20:30

@Ooolaaaala are you absolutely sure you can account for everyone’s movements who happens to live in SW3? I agree with @WarmWinterSun, rather unpleasant snobbery - are you new money? 😉

choccytime · 09/04/2023 20:42

I have a golden cocker spaniel to match my golden goose 😉

To sit in the passenger seats of Chelsea tractors

fyn · 09/04/2023 21:05

I think you are confused about the purpose of working dogs, I don’t think there are many game birds that need retrieving in Chelsea!

Emeraldsrock · 09/04/2023 21:06

Reading this op makes be glad I live in the north west!

Coffeepot72 · 09/04/2023 21:08

Why do people need to be so unpleasant on a fashion thread?

ArianahX · 09/04/2023 21:08

I'm going up to London from Dorset soon mustn't forget to buy some tasteful shocking pink Gucci shoes they sound, er interesting... wonder if my cat would put up with a doodle?

ArianahX · 09/04/2023 21:09

Or any kind of dog

They were completely fabulous. There were so many well dressed women, it was a quite tongue in cheek comment that despite mumsnet protestations that nobody truly well turned out could possibly wear labels there were plenty of labels to be seen but honestly. Some really elegant classy ladies. Personally I couldn’t care less what people wear, I felt I stacked up pretty well in my M&S attire but was silently amused that it wasn’t all understated despite MN claims. And after 50 years of living in London, and much of my youth spent in Chelsea I’m pretty adept at working out of people are likely to be relatively local give or take or not
