You know the wealthy classy look of understated expensive non branded clothes?

The ladies of Chelsea didn’t get the message. Just spent the day round Kensington and Chelsea, lots of ladies of all ages out and about. I assume they were relatively local as seemed to be meeting with friends in groups. Beautifully dressed, there were trainers galore but very few plain white ones. Still some vegas but plenty of golden goose and Gucci. One women in some wonderful shocking pink Gucci shoes and lots of general Gucci footwear, Women were wearing expensive beautiful casual outfits in shades of beige and cream. Cream cropped wide jeans. ,cream cotton jumpers. White T-shirts and one beautiful cream vashem ere wrap. But the mumsnet message that handbag branding needs to be discreet seems to have passed the ladies of Chelsea by. I would say that 90% of bags were Dior, YSL and Chanel worn by anyone from age about 18 -80 years old. Accessorised with a doodle, poodle or shihtzu of some form. Not a lab or working dog to be seen. So much for subtle and understated, May be true but not when it comes to bag or shoes

I used to live in Brooklyn and had a corner office on Madison Avenue and used to find the bridge and tunnel stuff to be offensive and so out of touch. I lived in Park Slope because it sorted my lifestyle and it was actually more expensive than Manhattan.

we don’t know who these women were and where they live but I like to hear and see different trends of clothes and shoes. Mostly because I live in the countryside now and am excited to see anything that isn’t fleece.

Only on MN could you pose a question about a designer bag costing ££££s from YSL or Gucci or Prada which and get told that there are far better bags out there from Etsy and that they wouldn't be seen dead with a designer handbag.

AltheaVestr1t · 09/04/2023 21:33

I am not remotely fashionable or wealthy, nor have I ever been to Chelsea. I've never heard of Golden Goose before but now I know they have glitter and stars on I really want some! 😭

Notanothernewname · 09/04/2023 21:40

Golden Goose sounds like something that should very served over ice!

@fyn I think there are rather fewer game old birds who need retrieving in or from Chelsea than there used to be. Far too many yappy dogs in PJ'S recently and they weren't with game old birds either - neither were they with particularly smart money.

Why would you need a working dog if you live in Chelsea 😂

In actual fact, a well trained dog capable of protecting you from muggers would be quite a good idea. Just read the local press ...

It’s my favourite MN pretension. I (despite having grown up in a naff semi detached house in the suburbs) have found myself friends with a member of the landed gentry, she had a photo on instagram (shock horror, so déclassé) from the weekend with a member of the richest family in the UK at a wedding and my friend was carrying…..a branded Gucci handbag. She’s also regularly worn the Gucci trainers with the bee on. Her wealth does not whisper and I adore her all the more for it

Meanwhile I took a train from Munich to Stuttgart today, or from BMW-ville to Mercedes-Benz-ville. Plenty of wealth on display on the train and at both ends, some ostentatious, some less so.

Somehow, it's always recognizable though, and always seems slightly antiseptic - sterile.

It will be full of ladies in from the Middle East avoiding Ramadan. They love their brands.

I am calling an new reality TV show 'Jealous not from Chelsea'

Seriously though I have no idea

ApplesandPares · 10/04/2023 04:57

Yuck. To all of you.

Hellenabe · 10/04/2023 05:15

I always think the uber rich really don't flaunt their labels, think the family in Succession. Everything plain yet all from Tom Ford and worth about 5K an outfit.

I was also in town this weekend and yes, loads of girls looking like they are from Towie wearing their brands head to toe, Canada Goose etc, Burberry check.

Mercurial123 · 10/04/2023 06:42

Chelsea is popular with Americans and Europeans who live there. I doubt they follow Mumsnet "rules" and are on the tedious how to look rich threads. This post is weird.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 10/04/2023 06:44

Wow . I wasn't aware of Golden Goose but the trainers look like the love child of Hush and M&S from three years ago that someone's scribbled on with a biro.

proppy · 10/04/2023 06:54

It's a bit like all rich people drive bangers. I used to work on Bond St, plenty of people driving those expensive cars & flashy labels are rich.

proppy · 10/04/2023 06:58

I have golden goose trainers & as someone with a high instep they are so comfortable.

proppy · 10/04/2023 07:24

They have wedge heels inside so they tend to look better on the leg then standard trainers, I like the arch support.
