Is this dress ok for a first date?

I don't know why I've bothered to hide my face as if you know me you know me!

I got this website recommended and ordered this dress, they send the wrong colour as if orders blue. But I think the green is nice too!

Honest opinions on it for first date 😬

Looks great on you - it's very formal though so it might seem too much unless you're going somewhere 'dressy'.

Blackeyesbluetears · 29/01/2023 10:54

I think it's beautiful but quite dressy so depends where you're going? You look stunning in it

Humanswarm · 29/01/2023 10:54

Absolutely! Do you feel good? Because ultimately, that's all that matters!

custardbear · 29/01/2023 10:55

Yes it's lovely! Unless you're going to a pub or dog walking 😉

Amberamethyst · 29/01/2023 10:56

Yes it's quite a formal restaurant

It’s lovely and you look great but it depends on the date.
Its quite booby for a first meeting too

Whitwhit · 29/01/2023 10:56

You look great, but it is very dressy. I used to go on first dates in jeans!
Where are you going?

Suprima · 29/01/2023 10:59

Depends entirely on where you are going.

It’s very dressy, i would wear that dress as a wedding guest. It’s lovely though!

I think it can work you are going to a very instagrammable restaurant or cocktail bar where you can see on the location tags that people are very much dressing to impress- but it would look out of place in a more rustic little bistro. Also not massively practical if you think you might be bar hoping.

although tbh on mumsnet a standard first date seems to be getting dragged around a park like a beagle. so i’m just happy for you that you are going to get to know someone in a nice, romantic setting if you are considering wearing that dress!

NameChangedForThissss · 29/01/2023 11:01

I don’t think it looks very dressy, I think it’s perfect for a dinner out.

ApolloandDaphne · 29/01/2023 11:02

It's gorgeous and perfect for a posh restaurant. It will make quite an impact but on the right way.

FurAndFeathers · 29/01/2023 11:03

It’s lovely - where’s it from please @Amberamethyst ?

Suprima · 29/01/2023 11:03

Amberamethyst · 29/01/2023 10:56

Yes it's quite a formal restaurant

Check the location tags on insta. See what people are wearing.

i’m not trying to piss on your chips- it’s a lovely dress, but even very formal restaurants are likely to have people in jumpers, blouses and jeans.

you’ll look fabulous, but I personally hate feeling overdressed so it’s worth checking out the vibe before

i think it could be dressed down with some opaques, chelsea boots, little leather jacket, hair down.

have a lovely time!

NameChangedForThissss · 29/01/2023 11:06

I like the dressing it down idea.

Butwhytho · 29/01/2023 11:06

Lovely, you look great in it. Have a fun date!

Amberamethyst · 29/01/2023 11:06

Issue is I'm not great with makeup so I definitely won't look insta 'done'

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 29/01/2023 11:08

The colour suits you - I think, obvs can't see your face.

WinnieFosterReads · 29/01/2023 11:09

It's lovely but I wouldn't wear it on a first date. It feels too formal and I wouldn't want him talking to my boobs all night.

Amberamethyst · 29/01/2023 11:15

Does it need a popper so it's not white so low?

OP posts:
UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 29/01/2023 11:21

I think it looks great. Not too booby or too formal. I always wear dresses and would much prefer to be over dressed than under dressed but this is not overdressed. Just keep make up simple.
love your hair as well.

Barleysugar86 · 29/01/2023 11:24

You look great... classy and confident. I'd give this a big thumbs up for a restaurant date :)

keepcalm11 · 29/01/2023 11:28

Looks great on you! Do you comfortable in it or are boobs too much on display

Sunshineboo · 29/01/2023 11:28

i think you look fabulous. and not too booby. as it is a maxi you can easily get away with a bit of boob (imo a bit of boob is never a bad thing anyway)

just because everyone else may be casual doesn't mean you do. it's not like a ball dress - will look lovely in a nice restaurant regardless what others are doing.

basically you look amazing - go one your date knowing you look hot and the whole of mumsnet is wishing you luck!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 29/01/2023 11:29

I think it's lovely

wherearerhou · 29/01/2023 11:34

Dress is nice, I absolutely hate the heels though. I agree with PP who suggested dressing it down.

Amberamethyst · 29/01/2023 11:36

Thanks for much for the reassuring comments.

First date after the end of a 22 year marriage.

I'm ready to move on to the next chapter and I've know the guy for a while so we are friends
