Is this dress ok for a first date?

I don't know why I've bothered to hide my face as if you know me you know me!

I got this website recommended and ordered this dress, they send the wrong colour as if orders blue. But I think the green is nice too!

Honest opinions on it for first date 😬

You are fab but the dress is horrid

Low cut and leg split is too much

The colour is drab

The style is a bit “try hard”

megacat · 29/01/2023 12:34

I think it looks great. Sexy and classy. Ignore the comments about dressing it down with flat boots/ tights/ jackets. Doing that would turn the look from stunning to dowdy.

Depends entirely on where you are going.

It’s very dressy, i would wear that dress as a wedding guest. It’s lovely though!

I think it can work you are going to a very instagrammable restaurant or cocktail bar where you can see on the location tags that people are very much dressing to impress- but it would look out of place in a more rustic little bistro. Also not massively practical if you think you might be bar hoping.

although tbh on mumsnet a standard first date seems to be getting dragged around a park like a beagle. so i’m just happy for you that you are going to get to know someone in a nice, romantic setting if you are considering wearing that dress!

I love your beagle reference in your post. It sounds like you speak from experience 😂😂
Oh and yes the dress is nice too

Viviennemary · 29/01/2023 12:40

It's quite nice but i wouldn't wear it on a first date. I agree it's too dressed up.

AuntieSoap · 29/01/2023 12:41

Gorgeous! It looks amazing on you. Better to be overdressed that underdressed I reckon. Wear it, and have a fabulous evening.

Zoetrope1 · 29/01/2023 12:43

You look absolutely gorgeous! Have fun!

BillyNighysWife · 29/01/2023 12:45

It’s a beautiful dress and you look great in it. It really suits your figure.

I think only you know whether the dress will suit the location and whether it’s the same level of smartness that your man goes for too.

I used to live In Liverpool and Manchester and a dress like this wouldn’t look out of place in a good restaurant there. I live in London now and most people really dress down on evenings out, even at expensive places. In London this would be more suitable as a wedding outfit, it would be too formal and booby for a restaurant.

You look stunning OP.
I'd possibly change the heels but that's me being picky x

Amberamethyst · 29/01/2023 12:50

My style in shoes is very samey!

I know I need to modernise my taste in shoes 😬

You're shoes are lovely and you don't need to change a thing. You're free to wear what you love and feel good in!

The black ones would be my pick.

Itgoesalittlesomethinglikethis · 29/01/2023 12:51

I'm like that with shoes too. I think these ones look nice. Have you tried them with the dress? What do you think?

Robynxoxo · 29/01/2023 12:51

It's beautiful, sexy yet classy. I would lose the shoes though and wear some strappy black sandals. Nude heels are kind of mumsy in my opinion.

TangledWebOfDeception · 29/01/2023 12:51

The first ones look good because they're neutral and they don't take away from the dress. The black ones may work too though. Try 'em on. Let's see!

Icouldabeenalawyer · 29/01/2023 12:52

You look lovely OP

TVMouse · 29/01/2023 12:53

If you are normally flamboyant and very dressy with lots on show, I'd go for it. Otherwise it's too much IMO.

Spudlet · 29/01/2023 12:54

It’s lovely! Personally I’d be in the flat boots etc camp, but that’s just because I always prefer a more dressed down style so would feel more comfortable that way. If you’re a dressier person generally, I think heels are fine.

7eleven · 29/01/2023 12:55

Is the fact that you’ve even asked an indication that you’re not sure? I think you’d need to be 💯 sure to feel comfortable.

7eleven · 29/01/2023 12:56

Or, it's a stealth boast about your lovely figure 😂😜

TangledWebOfDeception · 29/01/2023 12:57

Yes tbf I'd dress it down with low heeled shoes or block heeled suede boots, but that varies from person to person and also on where you live as certain regions tend towards much dressier outfits.

SkyBlue20 · 29/01/2023 12:57

You look gorgeous! Ignore everyone saying ‘it’s too this, it’s too that, it’s too the other’ - you know where you’re going so what the dress code is likely to be and you know your usual style. You look amazing and hopefully feel it, too. Have a great date - and let us know how it goes!

ZenNudist · 29/01/2023 13:01

Well you look great in it and the colour is good on you. He should feel lucky to be out with you. Its not, to be fair, a very current look, particularly with the nude heeled pumps/courts. Although they aren't bad. Something with a chunky heel and clumpy platformy might be more modern but I'm not too clued up myself and you are pulling it off, classy and great figure, so just run with it.

StickofVeg · 29/01/2023 13:04

I think the dress looks good, personally I'd use the shoes you have on. Gold and black would make it v dress in my opinion. But the question is where are you going (sorry if I missed this). A meal somewhere quite up market then great, a hike followed by a burger not so much. Good luck!!

YellowLoafers · 29/01/2023 13:23

You look fantastic! Hope you have a brilliant time OP, good luck!

romdowa · 29/01/2023 13:27

Do you feel good in it? Then rock it ! It's a beautiful dress and you look amazing.
