Is this dress ok for a first date?

I don't know why I've bothered to hide my face as if you know me you know me!

I got this website recommended and ordered this dress, they send the wrong colour as if orders blue. But I think the green is nice too!

Honest opinions on it for first date 😬

I think you look bloody lovely.

determinedtomakethiswork · 29/01/2023 18:02

though tbh on mumsnet a standard first date seems to be getting dragged around a park like a beagle

😄😄😄

smileladiesplease · 29/01/2023 18:09

Op has good tits and legs so show them off why not

Pixie2015 · 29/01/2023 18:12

Style, colour and fit are all perfect - hope you have great time x

missfliss · 29/01/2023 18:19

I think you look beautiful.

It's a fab dress, really unusual and flattering

It's more boob and leg than I personally would reveal but I am a much more casual dresser. That's me, not you or anyone else.

If you walked past me I'm that I would think "wow she looks lovely, I wonder where it's from!"

Now everyone has their own taste, the overwhelming majority of comments here are positive. A few who are polite but it's not for them, and just a couple of rude people.

This made me laugh too. All first dates seem to be a walk in the park and if lucky you get coffee at the end. Fuck that noise. I want to be wined and dined!

I think you look gorgeous OP, enjoy your date and whatever you’re wearing, he clearly likes you and your style so don’t over think it. It can be hard after a long relationship so as long as you’ve spent some time alone and dealt with past wounds, just have fun and enjoy the dating world for a bit!

Ihavehairlikeworzelgummidge · 29/01/2023 18:40

You look beautiful OP. Dress really suits you and enjoy your date.

I know the London style made me hoot. Reminds me of the Bridget Jones 'does nothing work outside of London!'

Yes you go north of Watford and it's all spray tans and Chavs. You go too south and it's clogs and overalls and don't even think of wales! Hilarious

Grin

Wales is presumably just wellies, with the odd leek or daffodil to preserve one's modesty.

GenFor · 29/01/2023 19:21

The London comments are not because London women are more stylish but they are much more casual when they go out e.g. trainers over high heels and often jeans over dresses. North of Watford it's definitely more skin on show.

What an odd comment re London! Have you ever been there?

I know exactly what she means. I've lived in London for 25 years in an area that's considered 'hipster' but was rather crap when I first moved here. People don't dress like that even to the poshest restaurants. They may wear the dress but it would be with trainers or chunky boots with a cool jacket / cardi. You wouldn't see anyone in nude heels. That doesn't mean the outfit isn't lovely, it's just not what "dressy" means here.
If I go two miles down the road the style changes completely as I'm then on the Essex borders. It's really quite a stark difference even though it's so close.
It's a pretty common thing on threads in S&B, especially when people ask what they should wear for a weekend in London / a west end show etc. The common response is that people aren't as dressy here.

smileladiesplease · 29/01/2023 19:28

Dh worked in London for years and my sister lives in Blackheath

There is no London style it's only what some Londoners seem to think. Utter nonsense. All and every style can be seen in London as any other city. Some like to dress up or be casual that's just different people's preferences.

Hilarious presume Irish women dress as leprechauns. I wish I was as sophisticated as the London luvvies SmileSmile

Londoner born and bred.

It can be. But if you go into a bar in Liverpool or Leeds on a Saturday night the women and men will be dressed very differently to those in a bar in Hackney or Walthamstow.

Upsidedownagain · 29/01/2023 20:10

You say you already know the guy - is he likely to be smartly dressed too? I like the dress on you, but I'm the type who hates to be too smartly dressed when those around me aren't. Though also vice versa!

So to me that's a very dressed up look so I'd tone it down if it were me. But if you know he'll match you, then it's fine.

Hope you have a lovely time, by the way!

I thought London was supposed to be stylish and ahead of the curve? Surely women aren’t wearing dresses with trainers? That look is so ubiquitous all over the country, it’s been done to death and is the middle aged uniform.

dangbongo · 29/01/2023 20:40

@LadyVictoriaSponge depends on the dress, which trainers, chunky boots or clogs maybe? Definitely not nude heels.

AbsolutePixels · 29/01/2023 21:15

Wow, you look amazing OP: sexy but also classy and elegant.

Greenfairydust · 29/01/2023 21:19

Too much cleavage for first date and looks rather formal and a bit old fashioned.

I like the colour though but I would not wear this.

You obviously have a lovely figure and I don't think this does you justice.

smileladiesplease · 29/01/2023 22:22

Wearing dresses with trainers is what my 22 year old dd would do. If I saw a middle aged woman In trainers with a dress out out I would assume she was trying to be with the kids and a tad trying too hard. Maybe I would be right.

Been on nights out London/Liverpool/Leeds/Glasgow all generally look pretty much the same. Some very glam others less so.

Never noticed London women dress differently to any others and been around many years :)

Amberamethyst · 29/01/2023 10:56

Yes it's quite a formal restaurant

You look amazing 😻 hope date goes/went well the dress is stunning

Sisisimone · 29/01/2023 23:41

it's not so much about era, but area. In London and area the outfit would be seen as frumpy and unsophisticated whereas in other areas of the UK it might hit the spot. Ultimately Op should chose something she feels herself in, I hope her date goes really well

No you don't.You've just written that post so you can feel all superior and put the OP down. It might not be your taste but the OP certainly does not look frumpy. That was nasty and unnecessary. Or maybe you could post a photo of yourself in an outfit you'd wear so we can see what a style icon really looks like

wheresthewine36 · 29/01/2023 23:52

The dress is nice but I suspect it is you making it look stunning rather than the other way round. Its a perfect outfit for a nice restaurant date.

smileladiesplease · 30/01/2023 00:02

I suggest the silly London comments spout from envy of the ops blooming fab figure to be honest. Go girl you look bloody fantastic
