Those old make up brands that have gone- a bit of fun for the oldies.

I was thinking today how many old brands have gone.

I remember buying my first 'real' foundation in a dept store when I was about 15. The store was the House of Fraser group. I bought Yardley foundation and my Mum came along with me to look at the shades. It was in a turquoise tube, not unlike the packaging now of some Clinique products.

The others I used were
Outdoor Girl
Miners
Mary Quant ( a real treat as it was expensive.)

Me and my friends used to spend ages on Saturdays in Woolies looking at Outdoor Girl and Miners.

I used to love a tiny pot of Miners lip gloss.

Oh yes!

Outdoor Girl and Miners!

Everything was ‘frosted’.

I had some Mary Quant nail varnish, I was so proud of it. And Biba, too.

I remember buying some Yardley eyeshadow am lipstick, Linda Evangelista was he face of the brand at the time. I must've been about 2007. I was a teal green and a matt ivory. Teamed with a orange nude toned lipstick. I may have bought the foundation at a later stage. I loved Cover Girl too, when Helena Christensen was the face of it. Tja was about 4 or 5 years earlier. I bought the colour renew lipstick, where you press your lips together to renew it.

Miners powder blue eyeshadow from Woollies was one of my first makeup purchases.
There was an advert, can't remember if Miners, CoverGirl or who, but the woman had bought herself a new lippy and eyeshadow and said "tonight my husband is taking out a new woman " then , because it's cheap stuff she shows some more and says "and tomorrow he's taking out another"

PAFMO · 16/01/2023 13:22

The first makeup bought for me was Mary Quant from my mum for Christmas

AdelaideRo · 16/01/2023 13:23

Prescriptives. I miss their foundation.

I was also going to lament bourjois but they are back/coming back.

gelert5619 · 16/01/2023 13:27

Mary Quant was advertised as 'Make-up to Make Love In' which I thought was very racy at the time!
I used Miners and Outdoor Girl and always had 'Quickies' in my handbag to wipe it off before I got home and Mum saw.

gelert5619 · 16/01/2023 13:29

I forgot to mention 'Spitblock mascara' that could get messy! Dusty Springfield was our Goddess. Really showing my age now........

BevMarsh · 16/01/2023 13:33

Sensiq. I had a lovely nude eyeshadow.
Constant Caroll- for the nail varnish.
VirginVie- loved the stuff but my student self found it a bit pricy.
I also loved Miss Selfridge make-up.

You are too young for this thread :)
I was buying Prescriptives in my 30s.

What was the lip gloss in a glass bottle with a roller ball?

Spitblock mascara could be £££. I used to buy some for my Mum as Xmas gifts and I'm sure one brand I bought her was Eliz Arden. I know it was expensive at the time. It was in a brown tortoiseshell box.

There was that one too, but I was mid-late 20s when that was around.

The Miners lip gloss was a pot about the size of a 10p piece. They had various pale shimmery shades.

Constant Carroll from the chemist!
I had some Mary quant and thought I was sooo trendy!

SecretVictoria · 16/01/2023 13:40

I had Mary Quant nail varnish and eyeliner; I still mourn that eyeliner, one of the best I’ve used. I remember lipsticks that were weird colours, like green and yellow but they changed when you put them on. Magic lips or something?

Not that old but I miss Ultimata II Brighten Up, Tighten Up for under eyes.

JinglingSpringishBells · 16/01/2023 13:43

It's funny how some things that were around then went out of fashion then came back in.

I had a trendy aunt who bought me Mary Quant make up and she used to donate her old nail varnish to me including one in pale pearly green.

No one had ever seen green nail varnish at the time.

Also, false eyelashes were 'in'.
I used to wear them for my Saturday job!

I was going to say BWC - Beauty without Cruelty, but it's still around according to Google.

Though I liked Ultima II lipstick and I think that went some years ago.

We all that that in our dressing tables! I'd love to know.

WhenYouWalkThroughTheGarden · 16/01/2023 13:50

Used to be obsessed with Miss Selfridge little nail varnishes in every colour you could think of! I remember being about 11 and the Cool Girl in our class came in with nails painted in mustard yellow and black alternate fingers. Never seen anything so stylish 😂

Baby Doll sold in Woolworths c1965. 4 pack of vivid eyeshadow, blue, green, silver sparkly and I think a gold sparkly one. Cream not powder.

They were horrible really but at 12 I thought they looked fabulous and couldn't wait to be old enough to wear them. 😱

I had that too in the 70s! And once in the Summer I was wearing it and running for the bus and I got a load of little flies stuck on around my mouth because it was so gloopy! ... Happy days

barbrahunter · 16/01/2023 13:53

The rollerball lip glass, I mean

barbrahunter · 16/01/2023 13:54

Grrr lip GLOSS

joaniegirl · 16/01/2023 13:54

That's right! I remember my hair sticking to it 😀

Cantonet · 16/01/2023 14:19

Scented lip glosses at Woolworths in Manchester were my first buy. I remember the bright colours & packaging had the same allure as the pick & mix to us young teens. Soon after that there was a really bad fire & Woolworths was gone for good 😢.
I remember Miss Selfridge metallic lipsticks were amazing, along with the very first iridescent nail varnishes I'd ever seen.
As an older teen I was into Clinique & in my 20s/30s Prescriptives make up.
