Those old make up brands that have gone- a bit of fun for the oldies.

I was thinking today how many old brands have gone.

I remember buying my first 'real' foundation in a dept store when I was about 15. The store was the House of Fraser group. I bought Yardley foundation and my Mum came along with me to look at the shades. It was in a turquoise tube, not unlike the packaging now of some Clinique products.

The others I used were
Outdoor Girl
Miners
Mary Quant ( a real treat as it was expensive.)

Me and my friends used to spend ages on Saturdays in Woolies looking at Outdoor Girl and Miners.

I used to love a tiny pot of Miners lip gloss.

BD in Tesco was fabulous. Does anyone know why it was discontinued

Crikeyalmighty · 16/01/2023 19:41

My mum used to wear Esther Lauder Youth Dew- smelt bloody awful- Her other favourite was called je reviens by Worth

PAFMO · 16/01/2023 19:43

@JinglingSpringishBells you can still get Fidji - if you get the eau de parfum rather than the toilette, it smells pretty much like the original. Your boyfriend was very wrong as it was the height of sophistication! I remember sitting on a plane next to a woman who bought some from the duty free, she was (to my 10 year old eyes) so glamorous.

Bonne bell lip smacker?

Kissing Potion

I had cola flavoured

Squirrelsnut · 16/01/2023 19:44

I remember Once shampoo! And Salon Selectives which had 'technology' to adjust the conditioning level...
I loved White Musk and Rose Musk from the Bodyshop, and their clear coconut oil shampoo.
I'm pretty sure Cornsilk powder is still knocking around online.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 16/01/2023 19:51

UltraGlow lipstick that was green but adjusted to your pH to give you your perfect shade . On me it went a shade of pink that would thrill Barbara Cartland and was so not my perfect shade !

And Lickety Lips gloss in a thin rectangular tin that the lid slid off

SprayedWithDettol · 16/01/2023 19:59

When I was 11/12 ish everyone loved 'It!' perfume by lentheric. It probably smelt like cat pee but we all wore it.

labazslovesliving · 16/01/2023 20:00

Outdoor girl but you were growing up when you progressed to no17!
We used to buy small pkts of lip stick blotting papers from our local chemist to make sure our lippy was perfect

MissMarplesNiece · 16/01/2023 20:00

I was a punk - 1979ish - and used to buy Mary Quant black nail polish and a Mary Quant very, very dark purple eye shadow.

Penguinsaregreat · 16/01/2023 20:07

I had the rollerball lipgloss.
Bought Constance Carroll lipstick in some pale frosty link colour.
Does anyone remember Tramp eau de toilette?
I had that and Tweed. Thought I was so sophisticated.

tobee · 16/01/2023 20:09

I have memories of the roller ball lip gloss being Rimmel? I was obsessed with having kissable lips at the age of 13! And obviously thought a boy would love to snog me if I had cherry/strawberry/mint flavoured lips!!

On the hair front are Shaders and Toners still around? My best friend was blonde and I
was dark haired and we were constantly using these. Oh and Glintz - Just A Shade More Daring!

joaniegirl · 16/01/2023 20:14

My best friend and I used to use Toners and Shaders. She'd always get the mahogany brown and I'd get some pale blonde shade. I think the difference was subtle. Very subtle 🤔

PumpkinDart · 16/01/2023 20:25

@joaniegirl I remember those, did naff all on my naturally almost black hair much to my disappointment 😂

Miss Sporty was one of the first brands I remember buying from, it was so cheap and so many nail polish colours.

That's cheered me up. Thank you!

I think my aunt bought me this which was a disaster for a 14/15 year old.
Far too heavy.

You could always tell when Jackie magazine had free Toners/Shaders on the cover as everyone turned up at school with their tinted hair .
I was Envy as these girls (trendy ones ) got the magazine on order .
I used to buy Inecto Hint of a Tint

DobbyTheHouseElk · 16/01/2023 20:45

🤣shaders and toners! Did nothing on my dark hair. Didn’t stop me searching for the shade that would.

Roseey · 16/01/2023 20:46

You can still buy shaders and toners

Nobody else ever seems to remember this but there was an earlier Charlotte Tilbury make-up range in Boots, well before the one she now has, at a much more modest price point with an aisle display - more like on a level with Bourjois and similar brands.

Anyone here remember that? Late 1990s I think. It was all organised by skin tone in a basic way as a kind of USP. I remember browsing it in the big Boots in town and reading some of the press. It kind of fizzled out pretty quickly and then a few years later she launched her current range.

@AdventFridgeOfShame yes Ruby and Millie! I used their foundation. Better range of shades than a lot of brands at that time.

Not Charlotte Tilbury, she's too young!
I think you're thinking of Liz Collinge makeup, which was organised by skintone. Her husband Andrew had a haircare line and they were ALWAYS in the press.

Preraph · 16/01/2023 20:51

I'm surprised no one has come up with Boots 17 ! I loved it as a teenager and a young adult.

Yes burgundy packaging and a window showing lipgloss with cherry or spearmint- delightful

I know it's still around but Lipcote? You may have well as applied a layer of clear Ronseal over your lipstick, it stung and never dried to more than "tacky".

Yes it is still around!
a cut lip and argh……you felt it eye watering pain for about 10 minutes

TwigsAndPebblyShit · 16/01/2023 21:09

Constance Carroll!! Used to buy it from a little corner shop - the best mascara EVER (seriously, never found one better...)
