Those old make up brands that have gone- a bit of fun for the oldies.

I was thinking today how many old brands have gone.

I remember buying my first 'real' foundation in a dept store when I was about 15. The store was the House of Fraser group. I bought Yardley foundation and my Mum came along with me to look at the shades. It was in a turquoise tube, not unlike the packaging now of some Clinique products.

The others I used were
Outdoor Girl
Miners
Mary Quant ( a real treat as it was expensive.)

Me and my friends used to spend ages on Saturdays in Woolies looking at Outdoor Girl and Miners.

I used to love a tiny pot of Miners lip gloss.

I had a Mary Quant palette from my auntir for Christmas. I loved it.

I used to buy Constance Caroll from the market

What was the lip gloss in a glass bottle with a roller ball?

Sounds like the Rimmel roll on lip gloss, a staple of my teens. Had it in cherry flavour. Really sticky!

CPL593H · 16/01/2023 14:51

I know it's still around but Lipcote? You may have well as applied a layer of clear Ronseal over your lipstick, it stung and never dried to more than "tacky".

Comefromaway · 16/01/2023 14:54

Oh how it stung

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 16/01/2023 14:57

Prescriptives. They were ahead of the time.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 16/01/2023 14:59

And Helena Rubinstein.

I think they were the first to do a cleaning oil. I've been a fan of cleansing oils ever since.

AllAboutMargot · 16/01/2023 15:06

Does anyone remember Aqua Manda Orange scented bath oil?

JaneJeffer · 16/01/2023 15:11

Not that old but Barbara Daly at Tesco was great

EyesOnThePies · 16/01/2023 15:15

Aqua Manda was so exotic!

Kiku perfume in the bright yellow bottle.

Constance Carroll wasn’t it?

No, not lipcote. I still have that. It was a recommended fix for lipliner on Mumsnet a couple of years ago, so I bought some to try.

Lip potion

KirstenBlest · 16/01/2023 16:15

I liked the lipsticks from Prescriptives. The case didn't look like other lipsticks.

Does anyone know of a dupe for Helena Rubenstein Impalpable Apricot blusher from the late 1980s?

PAFMO · 16/01/2023 16:19

Ultima II was discontinued because in the 80s there was no market for nudes. They were 40 years too early.

Polarbearyfairy · 16/01/2023 16:22

I actually couldn't believe it when they discontinued prescriptives, it was so good. Ahead of it's time as PP said!

Constance Carroll nasty chemist lipstick, loved it.

I think cover girl does still exist but not in the UK.

Iwouldliketogovegan · 16/01/2023 16:30

Mary Quant - small collection including a mascara, eye pencil and most important and well loved , a blue pink lipstick for that 'just bit' look. Miners eyeshadow palettes in bright blue, orange and olive green.

WaggledMyAerialAndWolfedMyCustardCreams · 16/01/2023 16:31

Extensive research (ie Pinterest) has told me that the lip gloss in a glass roller bottle was Max Factor Lip Potion. With that and my Charlie perfume I thought I was the bees’ knees!

Kiku perfume- yay!

I wonder who made it?

I also used Charlie. Remember how I sprayed loads on before my driving test! Must have worked as I passed .

I think HR did the spit and brush mascara. It was either them or Lizzie Arden.

1970's. What was that Max Factor foundation that came in a compact ? You could buy refills.
I remember how excited I was to try a vivid Green Minors eye shadow bought in Woolworths.
I was also a great fan of Boots own brand cucumber cleanser.

HipTightOnions · 16/01/2023 16:48

Lip potion

...by Max Factor. Very sticky and I can still remember the smell!

eddiemairswife · 16/01/2023 16:58

Is anyone old enough to remember Drene, the shampoo of the stars? It came in a tiny bottle and was iridescent yellow and green.

EspeciallyDetermined · 16/01/2023 16:58

17 Glitterbugs, loose sparkly gold or silver powder in a little tube with a brush applicator.
