Will people wear black tomorrow?

I work in a fairly traditional environment. Not sure if I should wear black tomorrow or not? What's everyone else doing?

We have been asked to dress appropriately and wear black armbands (front facing local government position)
I mostly wear black to work anyway, and will make an effort to do so over the next while.

FourEyesGood · 08/09/2022 21:49

I’m going to wear black or navy tomorrow, possibly with a white or cream top (I’m a teacher and staunchly republican, but don’t want to offend anyone, so will steer clear of my usual bright colours).

ChutneyVirgin · 08/09/2022 21:49

No fgs

mynameiscalypso · 08/09/2022 21:50

I work for an organisation with a royal connection. We've been told to wear dark clothes for the next 10 days, including for online meetings.

VladmirsPoutine · 08/09/2022 21:51

I hadn't even considered this at all. I'll go with whatever I fancy in the morning.

ImherewithBoudica · 08/09/2022 21:51

Yes, dark clothes in line with work policy as pp.

PurplePansy05 · 08/09/2022 21:52

I haven't been told anything, but I will. To me it's a personal choice and a sign of respect and I'd do it following the death of any person that was important to me, personally or in a broader sense, like the Queen.

generalh · 08/09/2022 21:52

No. I am a teacher and haven't be told what to wear. I won't wear bright fuchsia but will wear what I want.

Afterfire · 08/09/2022 21:52

It wouldn’t even occur to me to do this unless I worked in the government or with the royal family.

Ilovelindor · 08/09/2022 21:53

I WFH so no risk of offending anyone. So nope.

RedToothBrush · 08/09/2022 21:53

It's 10 days. Dh and I like bright colours. We might struggle with this...

HereBeFuckery · 08/09/2022 21:53

I will. DD has also decided to wear black to school (her school have emailed to say they would like it if students and staff did). Monarchist or Republican, it is a mark of respect.

thelastgreatdynasty · 08/09/2022 21:54

I'd not considered this, I usually wear bright colours, but I'll wear dark clothes for the next few days.

Fairislefandango · 08/09/2022 21:54

Hadn't even occurred to me tbh!

Wow, doesn't that make you angry? Being told to grieve for someone you never met by your employer? Total infringement of personal freedoms

CaramelTwirl · 08/09/2022 21:58

No.

AuntieMarys · 08/09/2022 21:59

No. I shall be at the gym and going out for lunch

But it isn't? The Windsor's wouldn't wear black for you.

carefullycourageous · 08/09/2022 22:00

I wear quite plain & dark clothes anyway so will just carry on as normal, but I find it a bit oppressive that people feel they have to do this, given it is not something many people do for their own loved ones anymore.

I am actually a bit worried about how the next ten days will go, I don't want it to turn into a bloody performance with people getting arsey if someone wears a red coat.

Mystery2345 · 08/09/2022 22:00

I won’t be and wouldn’t expect others to. It’s getting very mawkish already. She lived to a grand age, a life worth celebrating!

alwaysfactor50 · 08/09/2022 22:00

We've been asked to wear black

Asked by whom - by work?

Will you object?
