Will people wear black tomorrow?

I work in a fairly traditional environment. Not sure if I should wear black tomorrow or not? What's everyone else doing?

@OnlyEverAutumn yes, really. I'm not in mourning either, as HM Queen Elizabeth was not a member of my family or a friend, but she was Queen of this country and as such it feels appropriate to show respect. If you feel differently, that is your prerogative.

inappropriateraspberry · 08/09/2022 22:48

I'm not sure I can find a complete outfit, but I'll wear my bright yellow raincoat on the school run in the morning! Am a SAHM, so no work outfits!

RaininSummer · 08/09/2022 22:54

Not given this a thought and don't own any work suitable black other than my trousers really. I am sad the Queen has gone but won't be observing any mourning and as far as I know work haven't said anything. I am front facing civil service

mpsw · 08/09/2022 22:56

DH's workplace is. Black tie for those in suits (or black suits for women)

Black armbands for those not in suits

Throughabushbackwards · 08/09/2022 23:01

I only wear black, so yes.

What was the queens favourite designer in the 70’s ? Norman something …all those lovely pink and blue tailored coats and hats? She looked lovely in them. I wonder what happened to them. We’re they kept …

@TwoMonthsOff Norman Hartnell

@Tania64

You do realize that it is employers and not the royal family that are asking people to wear black to work don't you?

This is so funny, Did you really think that I thought that the request was made by the Queens family?? Ha ha. Of course not. As I said if I was a wage slave & my employer made such a request I would tell them where to go & come to work in a red outfit. The being sent to the tower was just tongue in cheek humour, nothing to do with the royals sending people there.

TwoMonthsOff · 08/09/2022 23:08

@TheEggChair
thank you

NeapolitanDreams · 08/09/2022 23:12

I will, I work in local government, nothing major. I wear muted colours quite often in the office though so it’s not a huge departure from my regular work wear.

That kind of depends who your employer is.

If it's the Crown (civil service, government agencies, police, courts etc) then it's the same thing

Prescottdanni123 · 08/09/2022 23:15

@Tania64

Well you've been pretty vocal about your distate for the monarchy so far so what was I supposed to think? Which is fair enough, not everybody is a royalist, that's fine by me. But there is also a time and place to be posting about 'rotten institutions' and respectful threads posted about a 96 year old woman who served this country until 2 days before her death isn't one of them

mondaytosunday · 08/09/2022 23:16

What? Only if you have some connection with government or the Royals like some PPs have mentioned. I'm not wearing anything different.
You don't even wear all black to funerals these days.

TrueNorthernBird · 08/09/2022 23:21

Blimey, I was planning on wearing a turquoise and pink leopard print dress! Will I be quietly judged on the tune?!

RewildingAmbridge · 08/09/2022 23:26

I will be wearing lime green, with matching hat, shoes and handbag. Might also have a flutter on the horses, it's what she would've wanted

BadlydoneHelen · 08/09/2022 23:26

Education sector: a message tonight asking us to wear smart/muted clothing tomorrow

RewildingAmbridge · 08/09/2022 23:27

Btw I'm actually quite a fan of the Queen, it's just a bit much isn't it? My beloved grandfather died, I didn't wear black until the funeral

LadyWithLapdog · 08/09/2022 23:27

Don’t be daft. I have a new leopard print shirt and some black trousers i.e. what I’d have worn anyway.

GobbolinoTheWitchesCat · 08/09/2022 23:29

Am of republican persuasion but yes I'll wear black. I fundamentally disagree with the concept of a royal family but I admire and respect the Queen and, at the end of the day, a worthy woman has died. It isn't a betrayal of my principles to show respect.

SomethingFast · 08/09/2022 23:29

I’ll be wearing black, though it’s a regular thing anyway.

Always4Brenner · 08/09/2022 23:30

Nothing special black T-shirt but then I wear those anyway usually with dr or Star Wars on them.

iamjustwinginglife · 08/09/2022 23:35

I think people are more than welcome to wear what they like tomorrow or sky other day but the disparaging "why would I wear black/show respect/I'll wear what I like" type comments-that's fine too. Just make sure that you raise your hand to work on the day of the funeral when the rest of us are mourning and please don't ask for extra pay because you're not missing out on anything you care about.

CandyLeBonBon · 08/09/2022 23:35

I wear black most days to be fair!

HuzzahIndeed · 08/09/2022 23:41

Nope. This is about her family. I'm not making it about me by wearing mourning clothes. I never even met her so it's sad in an abstract way but not particularly meaningful to me.

Besides, I don't actually own any black clothing apart from a pair of jogging bottoms.

I have loads if you need to borrow anything 😁

Well said. This too-cool-for-this sneering is a deeply unflattering look, btw.
