Re: Brown.. Never , never..I am still traumatised from the chocolate brown and cream school uniform ( and more yellowy 'cowpat' brown summer school blouse and skirt) I had to wear at out girls grammar school, 50 years ago!

Brown = Norland Nanny for me !😬

dudsville · 22/07/2022 12:09

I'm determined to display a lovely brown outfit. I shall have a think!

Cant remember which thread it was but "Coastal Grandma" seems to cover the Seasalt style quite well.
Having said that I like how they have styled it with the skirt -lose the twigs though!

Well we know a twig elevates everything.

In defence of brown I had a brown dress when I was 15 that I was very pleased with.
Should we anticipate a brown winter coat at some point? I was going to save my pennies for a coat. Not quite sure when I’d be wearing it though. And I can’t think brown with would go with anything I might want to wear it with.

HeyHeyer · 22/07/2022 14:17

Thank for the welcome 😊 I might pop some pictures up then, even if all my Toast is from past seasons.

I've just been scrolling through the Toast site looking for all the new-season brown (I love brown!) and was a bit disappointed not to find as much as I'd expected after seeing the chat here 😂

I do like this though (if picture works).

How do you all find the shirt style dresses for fit? I struggle to get the sizing right - I have a burgundy one in 12 which is quite roomy but tried a checked one in 10 which was tight/gaping on the chest.

Hi @HeyHeyer and welcome to the thread!!

In answer to your question about shirt dresses, I have various ones from over the years, blue, green, orange, yellow and maroon!!
I am a size 12-14 (well, actually I have put on a stone this last year so am definitely a 14 really) and my shirt dresses are so:
Blue 12 and fits
Green 12 and currently is too tight
Yellow 10 fits and is quite loose (!)
Orange 12 and fits but has slight pull in boob area
Maroon is a 16 (eBay) and fits comfortably, would be probably ideal in a 14.

What does this tell you? That Toast is erratic with their sizing season to season Grin
So perhaps no help at all .....

faustina · 22/07/2022 14:53

@dudsville - finally got around to taking a pic of the slate with a black T-shirt especially for you and of course it doesn’t look at all blue in the photo! Grrr

I wore a horrible brown uniform for Brownies.
The old fashioned one with a beret.

I feel your pain!

Snowyowl78 · 22/07/2022 15:06

If anyone likes the Liz Vidal ceramics on the Toast site, she sometimes does a seconds sale where things are much reduced on her Instagram page. I picked up another jug for only £12!

Haha! I'm a 12-14 too so that is useful (-ish) - thank you 😁

It's frustrating, especially buying used as there's no option to exchange! I don't mind reselling unsuitable items but I just end up with a growing wish-list of items in various specific sizes!

Re: the school uniform comments - I had the same with navy. I didn't realise that it's actually quite a good colour for me until well into my 30s. I just couldn't bring myself to wear it!

mizu · 22/07/2022 15:27

I was thinking of Brownie uniforms too Grin

Countmeout · 22/07/2022 15:48

Did anyone see Toast Cheltenham’s stories yesterday? They showed 2 rails. One looked predominately grey on my phone screen and the other navy and green. You’d never know brown is so much to the fore.

New thread anyone? Can’t see how near the end we are except it’s page 40.

Countmeout · 22/07/2022 15:49

See it now 😳
13 posts to go.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 22/07/2022 16:24

Thanks for the tip about the Liz Vidal ceramics @Snowyowl78 . I had a quick look but everything appears to be sold out, I was looking at the jugs on Toast so perhaps I’ll wait for another seconds sale.

Snowyowl78 · 22/07/2022 17:01

@Theteapotsbrokenspout aw shame. I await to see how ‘secondy’ they are!

dudsville · 22/07/2022 17:22

I've also got my eye on that dress @HeyHeyer ! And previous toast acquisitions are equally fun to discuss!

It looks grey on my phone @faustina !
