Why do people keep bringing trans women into this? It’s nothing to do with trans women.

Exactly this. It is bizarre. And to be honest, quite offensive to transwomen. Sexualising and fetishising children and objects associated with childhood is not connected to transmen or women.

Exactly. They do it to cover up and gaslight people who call out this obvious child abuse-marketing. It's the only thing they can desperately resort to.

Even though we a) don't know that the person in the image is even trans and
b) others could be misgendering them.

This is not about trans. It's odd that only the defenders are the ones to bring trans into their. Their motive, and their M.O is very suspicious.

Butteryflakycrust83 · 13/05/2022 16:49

Because many people seem to equate trans with predator/sexual deviant/threat to women/children.

Yet on this thread, the only ones equating it with that are the defenders.

Things that make you go hmmm.

HailAdrian · 13/05/2022 16:53

I have no issue with being called Bodenphobic. I want to know what their tights are like though.

pointythings · 13/05/2022 16:59

TalkingCat can you find me some research links supporting your contention that people who dress like this are likely to be child abusers?

ChaToilLeam · 13/05/2022 16:59

I used to love Snag but recently their advertising has become so questionable. No more €€£ from me.

Honestly if it had been a photo of the Biden and pearl wearing teacher who happens to be trans in tights, no one would care much.

The image used to flog these care bear tights is problematic for completely different reasons. They have other photos of similar care bear/my little pony tights worn by adult women styled in slightly quirky but not fetishy ways. The fetishy nature IS the problem.

I think the overly sexualised and fetishised imagery of very large women used in snag campaigns can be equally problematic.

Sometimes it feels like they’re producing wank fodder for people whose access to the internet is curtailed by child filters on the broadband. Or, more creepily for people who get off on the fact that other people are looking at it just because they want to wear tights.

Because many people seem to equate trans with predator/sexual deviant/threat to women/children.

Actually… several of us are arguing that this kind of imagery explicitly aligns trans with sexual deviancy.

That is not good for many trans people.

They should stop for that reason alone. Give us campaigns featuring dull, slightly overweight, middle aged trans women in M&S clothing snag.

You could try googling 'age play', but I would suggest being cautious about what you click on.

SoggyPaper · 13/05/2022 17:05

At least large numbers of people will be able to gain an idea of how the rights might look as workwear then. 🤣

Rubyupbeat · 13/05/2022 17:08

Fgs, there is nothing wrong with the picture, not my cup of tea, plus it's rather odd, but there's nothing paedophile like about it. It's just like a kind of cosplay outfit. I don't understand the kind of minds that automatically see deviant sex in most things.

This is a lolita image, it's not even remotely cosplay (which is adults dressed as adults, not children), wake up. Any child Psychologist or child abuse expert will say this image is a massive siren.

I'm not seeing what you are seeing. It's an adult looking ridiculous.

Googling that term is hardly likely to bring up peer reviewed research papers, is it?

LoveSpringDaffs · 13/05/2022 17:25

Rainbowshit · 13/05/2022 11:10

Eww that is really creepy. Was just about to buy new tights for DD for school, this has really put me off repurchasing snag tights for her.

It's ok, they're not giving away one free model with every purchase. Just buy DD the tights that fit & are uncomfortable.
IF you were actually going to buy tights, for school, right now.almost half term, temperatures rising, few weeks until summer holidays...

Yes, I think I am too; unfortunately the cognitive dissonance is pretty strong.

And this, is how child abuse happens in plain sight. When even in-your-face and flashing and blinking-neon-fucking-light-billboard obvious lolita-type images aren't obvious to some, it explains how it happens and how easily abusers get away with it.

Seriously, how more fucking obvious does it have to be? 🤦

I have to remind myself, this is 2022. Not the 1950s. You wouldn't know it though would you.

blacksax · 13/05/2022 17:27

JaneJeffer · 13/05/2022 11:39

People can't see what's right in front of their eyes.

Hiding in plain sight, I believe it's called.

pointythings · 13/05/2022 17:30

OK, so I've just Googled warning signs that someone is a child sexual predator. Looked at several articles. Exactly none mention dressing up in the kind of fetish gear depicted in the Snag ad.

Without evidence, the contention is just an opinion.

webseb · 13/05/2022 17:32

Someone said they were hugely successful? Are they really, when during lockdown they were asking people to purchase tights in advance, in order to help.

They seem to get a lot of publicity on here 🤔

I also dared to Google 'the psychology behind age play' and read that it is not considered paedophilia or related to it by psychologists. I mean, it's not for me but every time I read news articles about paedophile, it's 'normal' looking men.

For obvious reasons researching this type of thing can be a bit of a minefield. But okay.

'Paraphilic infantilism' is the term you need.

And another. link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s12119-018-09580-5

Of course, people with agendas attemp to handwave and rationalise 'age play', so I am a bit sceptical about research done in this area.
