Still struggling to see the logic behind how being young and fat equates to having much more liberal views. Wasn't aware that your weight and age had any bearing on your political views.

I ...DID...NOT....SAY.....THAT

DomesticatedZombie · 13/05/2022 16:13

What about if you are old and fat, does that cancel out the liberal views? Maybe my arse is Tory and my shapely ankles are more Lib Dem?

but then are most middle aged mothers that work in an office really going to be buying this particular pair of tights ? when the marketing and advert was done i guessing they knew bloody well that they werent trying to attract that particular market and they are going for the younger teenage , twentysomethings who would be more than happy to buy a pair of carebear tights or whatever they are and wont give a shit about the advert .

its amusing to see everyone get all worked up about the advert and the oh well they obviously arent catering to me , well no when it comes to this particular pair of tights no they arent , why is that a big deal ? 🙄

im sure they do plenty of plain black or discreet colours that many people would buy or is it that old shit about well i dont like this advert so im never going to buy another one of their products again ,

is it the same as all those people who spout that crap about not shopping from lush because they object to the odd advertising campaign and the fact that lush are apparently really tough or have unreaching high standards of their staff ?

which again i find laughable as im in retail and have been for literally all my working life and i can tell you there are many companies that treat their staff like shit including the one i work for , i also have known at least 3 people that have or do work at tesco and they also do not treat their staff great , but im betting thats not going to lead everyone to stop doing the weekly shop there to make a stand , anymore than it would stop women buying perfume and shampoo , makeup from the company i work for if they knew how we are treated .

i find all it all a load of santimonous crap really

Lush which had their staff engage in sexual activity with randoms?

Lush which had the staff uniform of naked with branded apron?

That Lush

Dianaofthelakeofshiningwaters · 13/05/2022 16:14

To be pedantic, maybe you meant that their customer base will be people who have more liberal views, who also happen to be young and fat.

However, I need a cup of tea so let's leave it there. I too have liberal views, even though I am neither young nor fat.

DomesticatedZombie · 13/05/2022 16:14

Lush that had the naked woman tortured in the window?

Butteryflakycrust83 · 13/05/2022 16:14

This thread is EXHAUSTING with people desperate to be offended.

cant say that it bothers me particularly. Theres adult pyjamas and nighties and tshirts with all sorts of childrens characters on them for donkeys years. Loads of shops do them. Primark, h&m etc. Theyre adults. They can dress how they like.

Maybe im just not easily creeped out?

thegreylady · 13/05/2022 16:21

They are the only comfortable tights I have ever had but I hate their advertising.

Tilltheend99 · 13/05/2022 16:22

Squealier · 13/05/2022 10:01

Erm @HailAdrian it's not the male model it's the infantilisation / cosplay as child that's offensive. I'd feel the same if it was a woman model 'playing' with unicorn soft toys.

If you think it's about trans that really says more about you.

Then why do some women love the Margot Robbie version of Harley Quinn why is basically the same thing?!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 13/05/2022 16:23

I work in marketing. Snag know exactly what they’re doing with this imagery

I believe you, ReadyToMoveIt, but just wonder if their target market's big enough to keep the company going if they're going to alienate many others

Clearly some feel that them going out of business would be no bad thing, but it seems to me a pretty odd commercial decision, extra publicity or not

Or maybe you like others on this thread are simply so desensitised to this form of obvious paedophilia? And cannot register it for what it is, even when it is in plain sight. This person isn't just dressed as a lolita, they have toys, and, toys placed on their crotch area which also looks like they are stroking the toy, strategically placed.

This thread makes it ever so clear how easily child abuse passes in plain sight when people like yourself can't even recognise how obvious it is.

It's called grooming and desensitisation. In plain sight.

Maybe they’re not the same women? There are a lot of women in the world, not all have the same opinions.
In fact, not all middle aged, middle class white women have the same opinions as each other, either.

That’s why this particular image isn’t on their main webpage. They know it will alienate some, so they try and target it using tools such as Pinterest.

I have had a look at their website, and it's all pretty straightforward - women in tights. Seems to be only certain channels they use these images.

WellThatsMeScrewed · 13/05/2022 16:35

@Butteryflakycrust83 I’ve got some really shocking news for you.

Young, liberal women turn into…..

Middle aged liberal women.

Sometimes if they are lucky they get to turn into old liberal women.

So enjoy your youth! Time stops for no (wo)man. Soon you can be sneered at like us middle aged women on MN.

pointythings · 13/05/2022 16:37

TalkingCat you're basically saying that anyone who dresses like this is either a paedophile or approves of paedophilia. You are unable to accept that people can dress like this because they enjoy dressing like this. It's beyond ridiculous.

Child abuse happens because there are people who like to abuse children. I would be willing to bet my house that the majority do not dress like this. They will be walking around looking just as ordinary as the rest of us.

You might as well say that anyone who dresses up in full Goth gear with fake fangs approves of blood drinking.

I am 40 but ok.

This, absolutely. It's a very ordinary website showing very ordinary, often plus size women wearing colourful tights and other plus size clothing. OK, at Halloween you might get some witchy costumes and you might get some slightly racy images when searching for their mock stockings, but that's it.

Their web marketing ranges more widely and is trans inclusive - because their tights fit trans women and there is a market. It's only on here that there's the automatic link that trans woman = paedophile or other sexual predator.

DomesticatedZombie · 13/05/2022 16:42

We're not talking about 'trans women', pointy. We're talking about the person in the image OP posted.

You really don't get it, do you? This is a lolita image. Most people don't dress like this. I suggest you ask any Child Psychologist about this picture. They will tell you it rings alarm bells.

Society is groomed by pictures like this becoming more mainstream. And some, like yourself, have clearly been desensitised and don't see that this image rings alarm bells with any person who can see it. It stands out that much. If you ask any expert in this area, they will tell you of the alarm bell and red flags you cannot see. No one dresses like this innocently. Come on.

I question how anyone can look at this image and not get a horrified shiver down the spine and feel sick. It is that obvious.

ReadyToMoveIt · 13/05/2022 16:46

Why do people keep bringing trans women into this? It’s nothing to do with trans women.

Because many people seem to equate trans with predator/sexual deviant/threat to women/children.

Don't you think you're being transphobic, by linking this to trans?

We don't even know the person in the photo is trans, so you like the HailAdrian poster are making an enormous leap/possibly misgendering a person.

As I've (and others) have repeatedly said, it's about the lolita/fetish look. Not about who is the one posing in it. I would have a problem with a 'cis' (I hate that term, but, to make a point) man dressing as a little boy, or a cis woman dressing as a little lolita.

The issue is NOT about trans. You are the one making it about trans.

SoggyPaper · 13/05/2022 16:49

Dianaofthelakeofshiningwaters · 13/05/2022 14:18

This thread has kept me entertained I must say. I just wanted to blow @HailAdrian's mind by sharing something. My DD has a teacher (actually her favourite teacher) who is trans and .... hold on to your hats .... wears Boden!!! I realise this is going to be a lot to process and you may need some time to get to get your head around this, because she has also been known, on occasion to wear pearls. I must ask DD when she comes home from school whether she has ever seen her clutching them, therefore, I'm assuming, making her a traitor.

Btw Adrian, I must ask you to dial down the "Bodenphobia"😁

Haha.

I would guess that this teacher is an example of the kind of trans person who us poorly served by focusing the idea of trans around weird fetishes.

My working hypothesis is that there are quite a lot of equally ordinary and unremarkable trans women out there whose needs to just see what tights like in pretty standard sartorial circumstances align with the needs of the bulk of the tights wearing population. Some of them want to consider whether they’ll work with a Boden dress and everything!
