Perhaps I am a bit of dark academic cliché..😂

Laska2Meryls · 20/01/2022 11:32

Summer I tend to go for wider crops.. I have the Steve Mono sandals from a couple of summers ago (in both black and tan which I think go well... Id like the new brown ones but tbh cant justify them
I cant do the socks with shoes look though...

AmethystMoonShine · 20/01/2022 12:43

In the summer I’m usually to be found in saltwater sandals, I have an embarrassing number of pairs in different colours and styles. Also Springcourt white plimsolls which I got from Toast.
In winter, boots in various styles but usually flat & leather of some sort.

The weirdly named dress arrived, wonderful colour.

@billydilly

The weirdly named dress arrived, wonderful colour.
Love this!
faustina · 20/01/2022 13:45

That looks fabulous @billydilly - is that the one that's supposed to be seersucker?

billydilly · 20/01/2022 14:03

That's the one. The dry cleaning put me off at the full price, it'll be reserved for my non-existent nights out. The colour is truly fantastic!

SmaugMum · 20/01/2022 15:16

@billydilly, I love the pairing of the mustard seed dress with the emerald velvet coat - what a combination! (your house also looks very interesting in the background 🧐).

I’m place-marking with a (fairly boring) homewares sale update: I’m really happy with my purchases of the Diamond Ikat kantha quilt, multiple washed linen napkins in chalk, indigo and quince, plus the linen cutlery roll and the Elina linen throw in celery. All very hygge.

Anyone else feeling sale remorse for the ones that got away? I’m now wishing that I’d bought the navy merino wool patchwork scarf - I initially rejected it on the basis that I already have two merino wool boro knit scarves, in grey and navy, but I wear a scarf every single day and it would have been lovely to have another to add to my repertoire. (I wish there was a wistful sigh emoji.)

I did crack and order the washed wool funnel navy sweater from JL - just off to click and collect so I’ll report back later. I reckon it will be a stealthily lovely knit rather than a showy jumper and could become an all-year-round wardrobe essential. It was cheaper at JL than Toast.

Incidentally, the JL sale finishes this Sunday. Anyone else wondering if JL is discontinuing Toast in 2022 as they usually overlap the sale garments with new season items but there are currently none showing, despite plenty on the Toast website.

faustina · 20/01/2022 15:57

@SmaugMum - yes! I'm very worried that they might not restock, but hoping it's a supply issue thing. Fingers crossed!

Saurus72 · 20/01/2022 15:57

@SmaugMum take heart from @ilovecherries tale of her returned dress coming back to her. If the scarf is meant to be it will find its way back to you 😊. Or they’ll be something better.

I was thinking that about JL - they’ve pulled out of some stores (not sure if it’s all of them?) and not looking promising on the website. I bought another JL cashmere jumper earlier this week that I have high hopes for - they’re pretty much all I wear to wfh for 6 months of the year so I know it will be worth it, and only £44 in the sale!

I need to lie fallow for a while now though - a LOT of shopping has been done over the past month…

Laska2Meryls · 20/01/2022 17:47

Lovely dress Billydilly

amethystmoonshine I also live in Saltwaters in the summer.. my two most worn ones though are the gold ones and the navy .. They seem to go with everything ..

mizu · 20/01/2022 19:46

I love saltwater sandals too. I have a tan pair and a yellow pair.

And I love that dress billydilly I kept looking at it but never bought.

dudsville · 20/01/2022 20:04

Wow, @billydilly! I kept looking at that dress, appreciating it's beauty but oblivious as to how it could be worn irl. You wear it so well! I'm also a fan of the big necklaces!

SmaugMum · 20/01/2022 20:04

Sharing the love for Saltwater sandals but also warning that they were the primary cause of a horrible case of plantar fasciitis I had a couple of years ago. I guess it serves me right for repeatedly wearing them on big, big hikes on rocky and hilly tracks because they were so comfortable. I still wear my Saltwaters but now I reserve them for strolls around town or on the beach - and wear my hiking boots (winter) and Teva sandals (summer) for long hikes.

billydilly · 20/01/2022 20:56

@dudsville Thanks! I wore it with my brightest coat, it goes beautifully with jewel colours, the shade of the dress is difficult to describe, metallic certainly. As I hardly go out in the evening I'm going to wear it wherever.

billydilly · 20/01/2022 21:00

Btw, if you're a fan of big jewelry checkout Pebble, London. It's like an Aladins cave!

AmethystMoonShine · 20/01/2022 21:54

Eek! @SmaugMum I’ll heed your warning! That sounds painful Sad glad that it sounds like you’ve recovered.

Marmite71 · 20/01/2022 22:19

Beautiful dress @billydilly. I’d be gutted if JL stop stocking Toast - was hoping to put DD’s staff discount to use

AmethystMoonShine · 21/01/2022 08:33

I bought the linen cutlery/utensil roll in the sale hoping I could use it for makeup brushes. I’ve finally got around to trying it out and it’s perfect! I had a black vinyl roll years ago which was brilliant but fell apart. This is a beautiful replacement and I can wash it. Very happy.

Countmeout · 21/01/2022 08:49

Love the dress and coat @billydilly. Very envious of that coat. Saw that dress in store, they do trousers the same don’t they. Such beautiful material.

TerrierOrTerror · 21/01/2022 12:19

Does anyone have the Gabi Cord Trousers / has tried and can give me an idea of sizing?

I bought an 8 in the green cord skirt, a 10 in the sale bargain linen dress and both fit really well. But my hips and thighs are my widest part and generally I size up for trousers e.g. the only non-stretchy trousers I own are size 12s. No idea what size to keep my eye on to buy in these Toast ones!

SmaugMum · 21/01/2022 12:53

@TerrierOrTerror, I have last year’s cord Gabis in cord slate and they are my most loved and worn trousers, to the extent that I was sad to discover small bald patches on the back in the knee creases and where I sit to drive (I do lots of school runs and trips to extra-curricular activities.) The trousers owe me nothing as I wear them constantly in autumn and winter and spring and I bought them at 70 per cent off in the halcyon days of decent sales! I think the cost per wear must be in double or triple negative figures by now.

To answer your main question, my cord Gabis are size 10 as size 10 is my standard Toast sizing and I don’t like to deviate! 😅 I’m 5’8.5 and an inverted triangle shape so my hip/waist ratio is small. The Gabis are roomy but not ridiculously so and I like the fact that I feel I can breathe and move in them. By contrast, I ordered a pair of cotton twill Gabis in size 10 in this winter’s JL sake and I sent them back as I felt that they were a bit too fit where they touch (I swear on my life that it was the trousers and not any excessive festive eating as I still weigh exactly the same as I did before).

I’m a tightwad who generally only buys Toast clothing in sales but once my cord Gabis finally give up the ghost, I will definitely be buying a replacement pair at full price!

SmaugMum · 21/01/2022 12:53

Gosh, that was a bit of an epic reply - sorry!

faustina · 21/01/2022 13:26

@TerrierOrTerror - I would go for an 8 if I were you. they're quite generous. Was the skirt the one with an elasticated waist?

TerrierOrTerror · 21/01/2022 14:01

Thanks both. The skirt does have an elasticated waist and it is a bit of a wriggle job to get it over the thighs.

I'm just keeping my eye on stock right now, but that helps me decide what to go for (ie not a 12!). I very rarely wear trousers apart from waterproof dog walking ones so super difficult to judge.
