As I need inspiration to look after myself more but I hardly know where to begin other than I need to lose weight!

Hoping to get ideas from others as I'm not really into fashion and beauty and hoping to change this (within budget of course!)

OP posts:
CeeCeeDeeBee · 26/12/2021 16:05

I'm in!

  • drinking only water in January
  • gym three times a week
  • YWA every day for January and try to keep up afterwards because I feel SO much better when I do it
  • try to eat fewer snacks, I don't need them
  • cut back on meat and fish, eat more vegetables
  • wear makeup more often, I feel so much better when I don't look like tired and washed out
ReginaaPhalange · 26/12/2021 16:07

Count me in! I'm due a baby within the next 3 weeks and I know I'll feel a bit meh about my appearance for a while, so any wee tips can help!

After Christmas, I now have an insane amount of soap and glory and molton brown goodies that should see me through the year,
It's just making time to actually use the lotions etc.

I bought a gel nail kit online last night so that'll be something to make me feel a bit nicer. I also got a revlon pro brush which dries and mega volumizes hair so that should make me feel like I've had a blow dry!

It'll be watching what I eat and how often I can get out with the pram without making excuses!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/12/2021 16:25

I might start on the Monday after New Year as its a Bank Holiday and I'll have had my NYE/NYD celebrations and the house will be cleared . We always take the decorations down on Jan 1st .

I went through my wardrobe a while back , so it'll be the Christmas Jumpers /tops and anything textile going up in the attic after washing them .

Christmas bedding can stay a while as its more Winter than Christmas anyway ( and its too cold to change until about Feb )

I have a list of To Buy

new bras (essential)
a grapefruit shower gel ( I love the Body Shop Pink Grapefruit so something along those lines )

Doesntfeellikexmas · 26/12/2021 16:31

Hi, this sounds really what I need. It's been a shit year. Need to focus on something from new year

SarahJessicaParker1 · 26/12/2021 16:48

That's so exciting @ReginaaPhalange! Definitely worth getting some quick and easy skin care tips...actually, I'd be interested in those too and my 'babies' are 4 and 7!

blackberriesaretheonlyfruit · 26/12/2021 17:06

I need to do something, anything really. I've put on 5 stone due to my depression and I feel awful. I'm off cigarettes well over a year so my skin is at least a bit better 🙄. It's a viscous cycle for me I feel ugly so I eat more crap feeling sorry myself and so it continue.

I've just started curly girl method so let's see how that goes.

My husband doesn't care one way or another but I want to look and feel better for me and no one else I want my glow and confidence back.

It'll be baby steps as money is tight last time I pulled myself together (5 years ago) it was a whole lot of small things made the difference anyway.

Omletteforbreakfast · 26/12/2021 17:17

Ooh yes please me too
Lose a stone gradually over the next year so I don't end up haggard - too old now for it to spring back
Make up every day even if only a spot of lippy and blusher
More walking and HIT 3x per week
Water when I wake up
Mindfulness every day
Buff my finger nails weekly, get my toes done properly every 5 weeks.
Skin brush my body and face daily
Moisturise my legs and arms daily
Use all the samples I have built up over the years from Clarins that sit in a bag in my cupboard

Scousealicious · 26/12/2021 17:21

Me, I'd love to join you. Wink

The last 6 months have been hell. Prior to this I was at one of my fittest and lightest. Since July I have had covid for the second time, as have all my family, had 2 bouts of flu, been in A&E with chest pains and not done any exercise or looked after myself.

Got an appointment with a nutritionist early Jan and from then on in, I aim to take very good care of myself.

Chocolatetrifle · 26/12/2021 17:27

Its so important to feel good, inside and out, In both body and mind and everything connects doesn't it?

I have disrupted sleep due to a 4 year old and 2 year old and it really impacts how I feel. I need to make time of an evening to do my 'beauty regime', bath, scrub, cream, nail varnish etc. Put some make up on in the morning as it does help me feel better. Lots of water and herbal tea and aromatherapy pulse points. I also need to stop mindlessly eating.

Beachbreak2411 · 26/12/2021 17:30

I’m so in! Decided I’m
Going to start getting my nails done and finally after 6 years go to the hairdressers. Figure if I spend my spare money on princessing it’s not there for booze and I’ll feel better and loose weight! Win win

AlwaysReadyForABlether · 26/12/2021 18:55

I'd like to join too. My list is

  • get outside every day even if it's just a short walk (been working from home since first lockdown and can go days without leaving the house)
  • go back to the salon I really like for regular nails, brows and lashes (I stopped going because they mucked up a couple of appointments but they really do a good job)
  • getting up when my alarm goes off every day rather than waiting until the last minute
  • do make up for work every day including bright lipstick. I'm on video calls a lot and lipstick just lifts my face
  • I like the idea of the flowers and I got a beautiful vase for Christmas so will add that too
Nichebitch · 26/12/2021 18:57

I’m in, so many good ideas! I would have flowers as well if my bastard cats wouldn’t eat them

ReginaaPhalange · 26/12/2021 19:34

I've started! Bath is running and I've cracked open the huge soap and glory tin which I got from DB yesterday!

I've got my sanctuary luxury bubble bath in and on the side to use is my S&G bubble bath and face wash and the body lotion on the bed. Got a face mask ready too! Will wash my hair with my fancy shampoo too then put new jammies on!

Starting off this way and want to really stick with the body moisturising as it's one thing I really don't do, especially with this big baby bump! Oh, just found my electric face brush so will give my face a good scrub too lol!!!

GreekGod · 26/12/2021 19:53

I'm in, starting tomorrow as its Monday as I've been stuffing my face the last 2 days as if chocolate is going to disappear from the planet

had a big operation in September and have put on weight as couldn't exercise which now I must lose
bought some books from Amazon to change mindset generally
3 litres water every day
take collagen, iron tablets and multivitamin every day with breakfast
Sort out work clothes night before
try low carb as need to lose weight and has worked before
go back to my crossfit 3 times a week (doctor said i can start again)
Generally just take better care of myself with facemasks, visits to podiatrist, lotions etc
Organise my make up boxes constantly so do not keep wearing same colours
Use all samples (great idea @Omletteforbreakfast)
regularly organise my wardrobes with trousers together, tops together, jumpers together, etc

SparrowNest · 26/12/2021 20:01

I’m in, I’ve got a breastfed newborn and a toddler so it’s going to be a struggle but I really want to start looking after myself and taking pride in how I look. I know I used to be thought of as quite attractive but I just feel frumpy now.

I’d like to lose the baby weight, start weight training, get my hair done and keep it nice, keep up with skincare, keep up with hair removal, have nice (short) nails, wear a bit of makeup on a regular basis and dress nicely.

LilyGlobe · 26/12/2021 20:17

I’m in.

4 alcohol free days a week
Stop snacking
Increase protein
Sort evening skin routine: my morning routine is great but my evening one sucks
Properly learn how to apply makeup. I’m 36, I should know this but I don’t 😬
Daily yoga
Gym twice a week, home workouts twice a week
Take a photo of myself every day. This should hopefully make me wear what’s actually in my wardrobe rather than the same 5 outfits.

My anxiety has been dreadful recently so I’ve not been caring about myself. I need a focus!

AlwaysReadyForABlether · 26/12/2021 21:34

@slaybellsringing I'd never heard of Hammam but I've googled and discovered there is a spa in my small town. Think I might have to give it a try - thanks for the suggestion

anotherneutralname · 26/12/2021 23:33

Right. Today I've:

  • been through wardrobe and bagged up all the stuff that's currently too small (sigh) so that I can see what I do have. Which is still plenty, so no excuse for the "only wearing 1 pair of leggings and some hoodies" I've slipped into over the past year
  • done the first run of couch to 5k with my DD (her school set them a challenge to do it, so it kicked me into action)

Now trying to set some half-achievable goals, probably taking things a week at a time!

  1. Take daily vitamin D
  2. Use Sunday nights for sorting nails etc
  3. Wear something that makes me feel good every day (could be perfume / jewellery / good clothes / make up)
  4. Keep going with C25K with DD
shewhomustbeEbayed · 26/12/2021 23:38

I’m in ! Everyone has really inspired me.
I’ve got osteoarthritis in both knees so exercise can be difficult but I had really been enjoying a weekly early morning me time hydro session until I caught Covid in October and have had no energy since.
I am determined to start hydro again in the new year as being stiff makes me feel so old.
I find fake tan on my face really makes me look healthy so will be doing that regularly.
I’ve let my natural hair colour grow out and it is very pale so need to dye my eyelashes regularly to give my face some definition.
I’ve ordered a new Babyliss big hair with 2 different sized heads so will have no excuse for not having styled hair and have found a new hairdresser who “gets me” so will be booking regular cuts.
Have ordered Niacinamide to try on my skin.
Have a drawer full of Beauty Pie skincare so don’t need to buy anything, just to use it regularly !
I’m thinking of getting a selection of herbal teas to increase fluids and variety.
I need to lose weight and when I have poached eggs on toast for breakfast, ryvitas for lunch and meat and veg for dinner the weight has consistently come off in the past so I must get back to that.
I want some striking trendy glasses
To start wearing bright lipstick and scarves as these give me confidence.
Good luck everyone !

thecherryontop · 27/12/2021 00:45

Absolutely up for this! I'm thinking 1st Jan. Had some small wins this year so would like to build on those… successes were lipstick every day -Maybelline superstar matte ink helped with this as it stays on ALL DAY! Sorting out underwear so have all matching sets that fit properly and make me feel better.

Things I want to start/ focus on/ do better with…
-Joining slimming world
-teeth whitening and better hygiene, regular hygienist visits
-possible Botox -on the fence a bit while I do my research on who to go to but time is ticking
-At least 10 mins of yoga by Adrienne
-working on getting my own style again (felt really lost since my second child)
-drink more water
-alternate gradual tan/night cream
-daily multivitamin
-stop biting nails then regular nail app
-regular eyelash infills
-sort my handbag out so it’s got everything I need in it
-get into the habit of Dyson blow drying my hair
-moisturise hands after washing
-regular bath/candles/ relax/ me time
-read more
-Team Tomm/ equivalent

I need a lot of work but even if I get some more small wins from this I’m hoping it will help with anxiety and confidence.

MarineBlue33 · 27/12/2021 01:22

I am in!
Need to shed a significant amount of weight.
Declutter house, especially of a lot of my clothes.
Use a good SPF daily.
Walk 10k steps a day.
Get a facial every month especially as I declutter.

TucciTucciTu · 27/12/2021 07:31

I’m in! Giving up booze as of today and back to running
Need to drink more water
Double cleansing and using proper skincare
Doing nails regularly
Styling hair rather than just letting it dry wildly
Wearing the nice clothes I have rather than the practical ones
Wearing make up every weekday
Getting more sleep
Avoiding sugar!

Nichebitch · 27/12/2021 09:09

Reading these seems like organisation unlocks loads of self care things (for me at least!). If I batch cook and organise my meals, I will be eating better and possibly drinking less (eating crap and bottle of wine go together for me). If I don’t open that bottle I won’t reach to the chocolate.
If I organise my clothes and prepare my outfits in advance I won’t reach to the same old tired comfy scruffy items, and will look a bit more put together.
Hoping all this will free 20m a day for some yoga as well!

AliceAldridge · 27/12/2021 09:18

I'm in. I have made some self-care baby steps this year: walking most days, flossing (more than I did) skincare, eyebrows/lashes dyed regularly (which transforms how I feel).

But need more inspiration especially with healthy eating and exercise.

SarahJessicaParker1 · 27/12/2021 10:21

I have sort of started. Booked a lash appointment and also nails. Both for this week! I am also going to try to attempt to fake tan this week. Last time was not a roaring success so wish me luck!

I also have a kerastraight (keratin straightening) appointment for next week.

This is going to be an expensive month on the hair and beauty side. However, I'm not buying new clothes at the minute and also, my hairdresser says that when I've had the treatment, I'll be able to go ages between cuts as it improves the condition. So hopefully a saving in the long run.
