As I need inspiration to look after myself more but I hardly know where to begin other than I need to lose weight!

Hoping to get ideas from others as I'm not really into fashion and beauty and hoping to change this (within budget of course!)

@vjg13

Is YWA suitable for a very inflexible yoga novice?
I think so. I'm sure she does beginners videos.

I don't love her chatty style, as I prefer someone just tells me what to do and then shuts up 😂. But she is very likeable and her videos are good. Just not my thing personally. So try her but maybe try something else. I like the down dog app. Very little chat and it's usually free to begin with.

VelvetB · 28/12/2021 07:24

I'd love to join you all! My anxiety has sky rocketed in recent months and I know when I'm making an effort to look after myself I feel much better.

I need to lose a stone too as all of my clothes feel too tight and I feel bloated after Christmas excesses!

My list:
2 liters of water a day
No booze
Get outside and exercise each day
Eat well - no junk
Try to get to bed early and get some decent sleep around 3 year olds!
Spend time doing my make up daily
Sort through my wardrobe and organise my clothes

Sunshinedreaming2022 · 28/12/2021 08:43

So todays baby step has been restarting my Noom course. I followed it religiously for 2 months then had a bit of a mental breakdown (currently signed off work) and it’s kinda been neglected but today I restart. 15 minutes of articles to read then track my food. Good luck to anyone else starting on their princessing journey this week

CaptainMal · 28/12/2021 08:50

I was thinking about this thread and the book Atomic Habits (which helped me achieve various NY resolutions last year and the year before). Think a PP also mentioned this earlier: making a new habit visible, attractive (and some other things but I forget) is key to its successful creation and maintenance.

So for the last few years, I have kept lemon scented cuticle oil, divine-smelling hand cream and foot cream in a pretty glass bowl by my bed. Can't miss it and it is lovely to do. Every night, without fail, I apply them as a result. The approach can work really well.

I just need to figure out how to do something similar for the body brush now!

Henonthehill · 28/12/2021 09:11

@vjg13 I think it is, she suggests modifications for different levels. There are loads of videos on her YouTube channel, you could take a look and see what you think. I agree with @SarahJessicaParker1, Adriene is fairly chatty ;) but that suits me because it gives me time/space to keep up! And it feels like I have company! The Down Dog app is great too 👍

I'm starting slowly today, more water, less junk and going to swop my pyjamas for a lovely outfit rather than a purely functional one Wink

Strictlydusting · 28/12/2021 09:26

I’m joining to. I’m the heaviest I have ever been, can’t remember the last time I used a razor or had a haircut. I work for the NHS and am basically exhausted and look it! By this time next year I would like to look and feel refreshed! Smile

Carriemac · 28/12/2021 09:36

I'm in .I've downloaded the second nature app ( nhs workers it's free for us this year) and aim to lose three stone .
Sorted my skincare last year , also had some profilo and now my face is lovely and my body is fat 😆
Up my daily steps to 8,000 from 6,000 this year and go to Pilates instead of thinking about it!

I had a great chiropodist appointment before Christmas so my feet are great, it's so much better than a pedicure .

GiveYourHeadAWobble · 28/12/2021 09:38

My plan;

Continue with yoga
Drink more water
Start Rapidlash to get my lashes long again (they got so much shorter with age)
Wear makeup most days
I want to get some moles and sunspots removed from my face, maybe with electrolysis?

Methenyouplus4 · 28/12/2021 09:55

Inspiree by touch lot, I am starting an 'ease in' week. This looks like a huge list, but it's not as intimidating as it looks, as I already do all of these things, just not as habitually as I'd like.

I think I'm going to read Atomic Habits to help with that as also heard good things about it.

Health/Beauty:
*hot water&lemon on waking
*2L water
*use hand cream/ subtle base colour
*wear gloves when cleaning
*dry body brush x3 weekly
*10k x5 weekly
*fast for 8 hours x5 weekly
*floss teeth at night
*take multi vit
*plan nice outfits night before
*try new make-up (in a rut)
*20min work out x3 weekly
*eat more fruit and veg

I'm happy with my weight (intermittent fasting been ace), but would still like to feel more energetic, so many of my goals are based on that (4 kids, 2 with disabilities, 1 requires frequent night care so will always have disrupted sleep).

None style/beauty goals:
*do Team Tomm for house
*go back to sticking to a budget
*bit of a house declutter (already started this week)
*continue last year's NYE resolution of reading more (I think I read over 40 books!)
*as a one off this year, send all those who mean a lot to me a birthday card with a personal letter inside.

Looks a lot written down, but as I said at the start, a lot of the above I already loosely do, reintroducing a work out will be the main new addition as not done that with any regularity for over 2 years.

Looking forward to being on board!

psuedocream3 · 28/12/2021 10:14

I have found my people!

I need some motivation and acountability. I have started looking after myself a bit better since lockdown 1.0 but there is room for improvement. I already spend on good haircare, self tan every few days and wear good quality makeup daily. I'm currently wearing glue on nails I do however need to concentrate on building better foundations starting with diet and basic routine.

I intend to:

Research and buy a skincare routine for daily ritual.
Commit to sobriety (I don't drink often but it can't be good for me)
Charge my fitbit and track my macros with myfitnesspal to ensure I'm getting optimal nutrition
Buy viviscal to promote hair growth and take vitamins where my macros are lacking
More water
Wear perfume daily
Buy new makeup - set aside time to experiment more
Sort wardrobe and buy a few bits to refresh
Better diet to shift a stone of weight
Do some sort of excercise?

Other things I need to work up the courage/time for:

Teeth whitening yearly (haven't done in three years!)
Microblading (sparse brows and sick of painting them on)
Something to enhance my eyelashes
Dermablading
Professional Haircut and colour (again, haven't done in 3 years)

There is cosmetic surgery/procedures I am looking at but really until I sort out all he other stuff and see how I feel, it would be silly to undertake drastic changes without exhausting all options.

IDKAYBIF32 · 28/12/2021 11:56

@BamberGascoine
"Is there anyone else like me reading these lists and feeling annoyed with themselves? I have vitamins, Vit D, good skin care, access to water etc etc. I’m annoyed for letting myself go like this."

Yes! Same here! I've got all the tools and equipment, just need to actually use them. I thought to myself last night 'I'd quite like to start reading again, I must buy a new kindle', and then found my actual kindle in the bedside table drawer. It's been untouched for months. I've also got really dry hands and skin but loads of little tubes of moisturisers, so last night I rounded them up and put one in my handbag, one by the bathroom and kitchen sink, and by the front door, sofa and bed. Hopefully will actually use them now!

@2022Bride
Congrats on the upcoming wedding! I think the original princessing thread was started back in 2011 by a poster who believed that we should treat an upcoming wedding we were attending as our own, as doing it every now and again will keep you looking and feeling good. That original wedding was William and Kate's, your style icon OP!

@CaptainMal
Yes I love Atomic Habits, I might listen to it again on audible. For me, I'm more likely to drink water if I have ice cubes and a fancy glass, makes it feel more like a treat. I downloaded a habit tracker app on my phone after first reading it, I did use for about a year consistently but have let things slide in the last 4 months or so. Need a reset I think.

IDKAYBIF32 · 28/12/2021 11:58

For yoga, I prefer yoga with Kassandra than yoga with Adriene. Adriene is way too chatty for me!

CleanQueen123 · 28/12/2021 12:18

I'm in! I start a new job in the middle of January after nearly 3 years of studying and hard work to get there.

As cliched as it sounds I want 2022 to be my year and that also means taking better care of myself and getting my act together.

Gufo · 28/12/2021 13:51

Haircut (ruined by needing to wear a bobble hat home!) and vitamin D done. Also had veg soup for lunch rather than cheese and aero it could have been!

yahyahfashion · 28/12/2021 13:54

What does vitamin d do??

Shallysally · 28/12/2021 14:00

I’m in. I have a list:

Drink more water
Put a colour on my hair
Eat better
Continue with weight loss
Make hair appointment
Get to sleep before midnight every night

psuedocream3 · 28/12/2021 15:15

@yahyahfashion I am prescribed vitamin D as I have a huge deficit. Lack of vitamin D causes me excruciating pain very similar to rheumatoid arthritis, I'm not sure what it does for people without a deficit I'm afraid but most people naturally get their vitamin D from 30 minutes sun exposure a day but that's not always easy in winter

Helpstopthepain · 28/12/2021 15:43

@IDKAYBIF32

My plan:

Daily:
Get at least 6 hours sleep.
Take a multivitamin.
Wear SPF.
Spend 5 minutes on make up every morning (even if just a bit of mascara and tinted lip balm).
30 minutes of exercise (even if just a walk)
Drink 1.5 litres of water.
Do evening skincare routine (cleanse, tone, moisturise).
Floss.
Do a ten minute yoga video before bed.
Moisture my scaly legs before bed.
Cuticle oil and hand moisturiser.

Weekly:

  • DIY manicure. Painting my nails relaxes me so much and as much as I would love to pay someone else to do them, I can't afford it and gels ruin my nails.
  • Deep condition hair.
  • Use the ordinary AHA peel.

Every two weeks:

  • Have a leisurely bath, exfoliate, shave and use lumea (my legs are still pretty hair free but can't say the same for my armpits or bikini area!).
  • DIY pedicure.
  • DIY dermaplane.

Other to dos:

  • Spend a day clearing out wardrobe and donate anything that doesn't fit. Vacuum pack the out of season stuff away. Try on different outfits and take photos so I can plan outfits in advance. Start planning outfits for the week on a Sunday evening. Make sure I always have clean socks and pants (buy more socks and pants, nice ones).
  • Restart (and actually finish) couch to 5k. Even if I just repeat run 1 week 1 for all of 2022, it'll be something. Actually go to a park run and sign up for a 10km event instead of just thinking about it.
  • Book an appointment with the dental hygienist, look into getting teeth whitened.
  • Book a consultation with hairdresser to get hair bayalaged again.
  • Type up the organised mum method cleaning rota in a fancy font, laminate, stick on fridge, and get me and DP to actually stick to it for 15 minutes each a day.
  • Start listening to audibooks again.

...sounds a tad ambitious now it's all written down, but I'm hoping action will lead to motivation and spark more action. I've been fairly poorly with a chest infection and feeling low and have let things slide, I know that when I spend a bit of time on myself it makes me feel much better so I need to do it.

@IDKAYBIF32 I might pinch your list! A mix of yours and @Methenyouplus4, fabulous lists!

I’m wanting to do this but without spending money! I’m on a no spend January which I hope to keep up/low spend from February onwards.

I’ll sell unwanted clothes on vinted and only use money from that to buy anything.

This doesn’t include my regular cut and colour appointments which I can’t do without.

I’ve got plenty of high end lotions and potions so have the tools, I just need to use them!

pinkpapaya · 28/12/2021 17:13

I'm definitely in! I always used to be well presented but it has gone to pot and I need to lose 4 stones in weight! 2 were just long term overweight but gained another 2 in lockdown Blush

My list is:
Blowdry hair properly so it keeps it's shape.
Weekly deep condition hair snd DIY mani/pedi
Floss twice a day
Wear perfume everyday
Walk more
Join Noom because I need the motivation
Immerse myself in my studies properly (3rd year of a part time undergrad and just been leaving to the last minute!)
Brush up my French
Have a massive clear out of everything at home - Been watching the podcasts of a lady called The Clutter Fairy on YouTube. She is a down home, no nonsense but kind lady who explores why we get clutter, what to do about it psych/emotional reasons and great advice. Highly recommend her.
Get teeth seen to.
Actually start listening to my Audible library.
New pretty undies and some cheapy but nice new clothes.
Definitely weekly flowers.
Cooking from scratch more.
Is yoga with Adrienne good?

Perhaps this personal neglect is the outer manifestation of how I have been feeling inside but I really want change things. Like lots of people, I feel like I lost two years of my life due to the pandemic and I really want 2022 to be different in terms of the things I can do.

Chocolateteabag · 28/12/2021 17:17

@Methenyouplus4 - try just having hot water and skip the lemon - your teeth with thank you for not giving them a hot acid bath each morning! You could have a herbal tea if you want the taste

Other than that - I'm totally stealing your list!

MyComputerGetsSadWithoutMe · 28/12/2021 18:11

I'm in.

Moisturise every night
Get out for a daily walk, aim to make it a light jog at some point
Drink more water because I drink none! I don't drink alcohol or fizzy drinks either, I just have 2 cups of tea in the morning and then that's usually it and it's not enough!
Try and save for a Philips lumea
Start some gentle yoga(will have to be gentle for me😅)

Nomorefuckstogive · 28/12/2021 20:36

I’m in!
Daily:

  • 2l water
  • body brush
  • body butter
  • walk
  • eye cream
  • facial massage
  • min. 7 hours of sleep
3 x per week:
  • weights
  • retinol
Weekly:
  • shave legs
  • fake tan
  • self manicure
Fortnightly:
  • pedicure
  • eyebrow tint and wax
Every 6 weeks:
  • hair trim and roots
Every 3-4 months:
  • Botox
  • salon gel mani and pedi
Motivated Halo
Bessica1970 · 28/12/2021 20:55

Your ideas are great.
I’ve made myself a tick list to remind myself to do these things regularly ( and laminated it - I’m a sucker for laminating things)
I’ve got a lumea that is gathering dust, and like many of you, draws full of vitamins and skin care products I’m not using!

Off to read up on the atomic thing and the busy mum method thing…

is there a 2022 princessing thread?
anotherneutralname · 28/12/2021 21:53

Dusted off the fitness tracker (deleted all the old data, too painful to see how far I've backslid) and have logged food and what passed for exercise today. I really like some of the ideas above, like drying hair properly so it holds a style.

I'm a bit nervous about how many changes it's realistic to make at once but I guess I'll go one day at a time and see what happens. Back to work tomorrow so that's when it all usually goes wrong Grin

Methenyouplus4 · 28/12/2021 22:12

@Chocolateteabag thank you for the no lemon tip! I'll try plain hot water tomorrow, my mum drinks it (plus cabbage water-urgh) and she's always had great skin (which I unfortunately didn't inherit).

Those of you with a good morning Skincare routine-what does that look like? I currently just splash with water in the am, moisturise and use spf 50. Of an evening, wash with any old face wash and a face cloth or muslin and then use vit C and moisturiser again. I am 40 next year, have quite deep wrinkles already, I think due to a combination of no sunscreen worn in childhood plus quite a bit of stress and very little sleep for the past eight years. I also have enlarged pores and white heads/occasional black heads on chin/around nose...lucky me!

If anyone is unsure about starting, I realised that water is a great one as you can get to really late in the day and if you've forgotten, you can just drink a load. It's a lot easier than try to suddenly exercise etc at 9pm.

@Bessica1970 great minds! I did exactly the same thing this morning.
