As I need inspiration to look after myself more but I hardly know where to begin other than I need to lose weight!

Hoping to get ideas from others as I'm not really into fashion and beauty and hoping to change this (within budget of course!)

OP posts:

Ooh, this is the thread I need. I have been complaining to DP about how I have really let my appearance go over the past few years - blaming it on him of course Grin as he prefers me without makeup. I won't go for full makeup for that reason but I would like to start wearing mascara (blonde eyelashes) and tinted lip balm again, and I have eczema so really need to sort a skincare routine.
Like many of you I also need to start exercising and could do with shifting a few kilos although I have also lost a couple this year. Most importantly I injured my knee earlier in the year and never did any of the physio home exercises so unsurprisingly it's still playing up! So I need to get into the routine of doing those until it's back to normal.
I used to do something called the Miracle Morning which was good - it was a morning routine involving mindfulness, exercise, reading etc. Might try to dig the book out and have a re-read.

@Nichebitch it's a bit pricey but Arena flowers have a flower subscription service, and they have an option for pet-friendly flowers so nothing would happen to your cats if they ate them. The flowers still wouldn't be too happy though!

Joining please. Getting myself sorted this year after the toll of lockdown and pregnancies/babies is making itself known. I’m pregnant again so can’t really do my wardrobe or weight but planning to

  • book regular cut and dye
  • buy and use Phillips lumea (anyone spotted a good deal?)
  • regular pedicure gel nails
  • spf and new skin care regime (tbc)
  • use better shampoo and silk hair bands
  • drink more water
  • get outside more
  • eat better (details tbc)

@Bessica1970

Ooh I love a tick sheet, I have something similar on my phone. So satisfying ticking stuff off.

I finally made myself go and do run 1 of couch to 5k earlier today, it took about an hour and a half of sitting around in my running gear for me to actually go. But when I got back I did 10 minutes of yoga, drank a litre of water and had a lovely long bath and shaved my armpit fuzz Blush. Flossed my teeth and did my skincare routine, and just finished painting my nails, feeling very zen and slightly princessy!

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 28/12/2021 23:35

I'm in. I have clothes that are too tight and l feel like shit about my body at the moment.

I've started today by drinking more water and less alcohol. Also went for a walk in the rain. Tomorrow- no alcohol and another walk.

My skincare routine is good and l look after my nails. Hair is cut regularly but need to decide how to colour it to cover the grey.

CommanderBurnham · 28/12/2021 23:39

I'm gearing up for 16:8. Downloaded the app, ordered some high protein low carb food.

Been only drink a coffee until 12pk to ease myself into it. I'll start properly once I've got rid of the plague.

Sunshinedreaming2022 · 29/12/2021 00:55

@Methenyouplus4 my skin care routine us very simple - both morning and evening I use lizards Earle cleanse and polish and then no7 protect and perfect serum. I also only use a tinted moisturiser, no foundation, on my face. Then once a week dh buys me a sheet mask which I really should use. I have a giant stack of them Blush

Sunshinedreaming2022 · 29/12/2021 00:57

Haha I really should check for any autocorrections before I post 😂
*is very simple and liz Earle

OnlyClothes · 29/12/2021 01:02

I’m in.

I’m doing Adrienne’s January yoga plus I’m hoping to carry on with her videos every day after that.

I’m doing veganuary.

I need a haircut.

Stop picking at my fingers (🤮).

Lose weight, maybe 2 stone or thereabouts???

Move more, eventually doing C25K (my knees won’t tolerate it at the moment).

And hopefully, later, the gym/Pilates/classes/something.

Mole removal at a private hospital.

Eye appointment.

Teeth cleaning appointment.

Following as need to sort myself out in the new year.

CaptainMal · 29/12/2021 08:08

@Methenyouplus4 I used to have terrible skin but now visit a very fancy dermatologist and she has sorted it right out. Some stuff is prescription only but think lots of it is easily replicable - depending on what your skin needs.

AM

  • Cerave hydrating wash
  • LRP eye cream
  • Obagi vit C serum
  • Skinoren (azelaic acid) (prescription)
  • Avene hydrating cream
  • LRP SPF 50 (I never skip this. Even in winter)

PM

  • Cerave wash
  • Tretinoin (prescription)
  • Avene moisturiser
  • LRP eye cream

Every so often I treat myself to a sheet face mask (I like Boots' hyaluronic acid/hydrating ones. £1.50!).

Has sorted my acne and my emerging wrinkles out. Look younger, my skin tone is clearer and brighter, I now rarely have to wear foundation or even concealer. Cannot rave about the regime or dermatologist enough.

Methenyouplus4 · 29/12/2021 09:21

Just sat reading latest comments with my hot water (no lemon)Smile. Can't say I love the taste, are there any health benefits to drinking warm water first thing? If not, I think I'll go back to a black coffee and a large glass of water.

@CommanderBurnham I do 16:8 and have black coffee until lunch. I used to be white coffee with x2 sweeteners, I found it really difficult to break the habit but gradually managed it (not going to lie, it took about 2 years to really enjoy black coffee or white without milk), but it's actually my preference now.

Also, listen to some of the Dr Rangan Chatterjee podcasts on intermittent fasting- I had never even heard of it, but they convinced me.

The person asking about Vitamin D benefits, he also has a great podcast episode on winter immunity where they discuss the benefits of Vit D there. I use the oral spray (can't remember the name but they do a wide range of vitamins etc) but do x3 recommended dose in winter- I live NE England and as other Doc on podcast pointed out- recommendation normally puts you at minimum requirement, but actually you want your body at optimal.

@Sunshinedreaming2022 are sheet masks any good? They seem quite expensive and a lot of waste (individually wrapped in plastic), are they better than just buying a bottle of something? Lizard Earl gave me a smile this morning.

@CaptainMal could you share a bit more? Mainly, how much consultation and prescription costs (if that's ok), and how long (if any length) you leave it before applying each one?

I ticked off my list last night except steps, workout and body brushing. I'm swimming today with kids so that will cover work out I guess, might go for a walk later but have a back log of 'life admin' to do (yawn) so I'll see.

Not a fan of the term 'princess', but good luck to all you goddesses today!

VioletCreams · 29/12/2021 10:00

I’m following! Lots of really helpful tips here. I’m thinking of doing the 16:8 but not sure how I will manage not eating all morning 🤣

I need to lose 1.5 stones as I’ve got lots of really nice clothes in my wardrobe that are too tight so I just stick to wearing jeans and Breton tops. I feel fat, frumpy and don’t like what I see in the mirror 😢. I need to eat better and move more.

I used to go to Jazzercise before I had my son which I found good for losing weight and really enjoyed. I don’t have much time now to exercise so last year I did a few Zumba Sulu videos on YouTube along with Pop Sugar weights videos and I lost a few pounds but let that slide. Will need to get back into the habit again.

After almost 4 years of sleep deprivation my son is finally going to sleep at a decent time and sleeping through the night. I’m going to use this time to catch up on my lost sleep and to do some pampering.

Those of you that use a SPF50 which ones do you use/recommend?

YES to Skinoren in the morning and some sort of tretinoin in the evening. I do this too (mine was prescribed by an NHS dermatologist but GPS will prescribe these too). It has made a massive difference to my acne and also to the texture of my skin.

Lupinspotato · 29/12/2021 11:45

@VioletCreams I use La Roche-Posay SPF 50 which I’ve seen mentioned on this thread by others too. Boots do it and it’s often on offer so stock up then.

I’ve made a start on doing TOMM and using body lotion after every shower and making an effort with hair. I’m quite good at using spf and drinking enough water but I’ll be looking to add retinol to my routine soon.

Diet and exercise I’ll start on the 3rd. May give the intermittent fasting a go too.

VioletCreams · 29/12/2021 12:28

Thanks for that @Lupinspotato. I just checked them out but apparently their products aren’t cruelty free. Probably should have mentioned that I was looking for that in my post 🙈

Chocachocaholic · 29/12/2021 12:41

@OnlyClothes I pick my fingers too. Do you have any thoughts on how to stop? I find if I stop then I bite my nails instead and if I stop biting my nails I will pick my fingers more. It's a rubbish circle 😭 I also do it without thinking when I'm stressed etc so often have done it before I realise.

I'm planning on getting back to my health and fitness plan again. Was doing well until I caught covid in October and just haven't found the motivation to get back on it, been paying for my gym membership monthly and not even gone. New year start as they say.

I also have lots of new skincare bits for Xmas to try and looking to try those out too.

I've already started getting my hair done at the hairdressers every 6-8 weeks but want to attempt the same with eyelashes and eyebrows going into 2022

pinkpapaya · 29/12/2021 13:34

Just got back from Boots. The shelves looked as though a horde of marauding Vikings had swept through but I did pick up a bottle of The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 2% for under a tenner for nightime use. I have read great things about it but does anyone here use it? What do you think of it?

pinkpapaya · 29/12/2021 13:39

Also I wanted to ask about 'number 11' lines. I have had really stressful 2021 and so obvs frowned a lot. I have the beginnings of the 'number 11's'. Can you tell if botox will sort them out from those who have used it?

deadlanguage · 29/12/2021 13:50

@Chocachocaholic use hand cream/cuticle cream regularly? I pick my fingers as well but it’s much harder to do if there’s no dry skin!

@VioletCreams I have this which is CF & vegan, it’s quite a nice consistency and soaks in well. I don’t use it regularly atm though so can’t speak to its long term effects. www.thebodyshop.com/en-gb/face/serums-essences/skin-defence-multi-protection-lotion-spf-50-pa/p/p001071

ReginaaPhalange · 29/12/2021 16:32

@pinkpapaya Botox will sort that out!! I'm going to put money aside to get my Botox redone once my baby is born and I've stopped BF! Totally transforms my face!

ReginaaPhalange · 29/12/2021 16:33

I got a Christmas present in the post today which was wellllll received! molton brown hand wash and hand cream! I'm going to make the point of using it all the time now to even make my hands feel soft!

So far I've stuck with the moisturising after each shower/bath! I love how it makes my skin feel so need to keep up with it!

SarahJessicaParker1 · 29/12/2021 16:50

I've had botox, but not for 11s. I had mine for the horizontal lines on my forehead.

I think I was possibly expecting too much (a total transformation), but in reality, it didn't make that big a difference to my face. The wrinkles were gone, but I didn't really look any different if that makes sense. I also found I was so worried about getting a droopy eyelid, that it was more hassle than it was worth in the end.

Definitely try it, if you want, but it isn't necessarily something that makes an enormous difference ime. A good haircut and colour would make more difference for me.

Omletteforbreakfast · 29/12/2021 18:01

Sorry pressed send too soon and didn't add the please!

SpideySenseTingles · 29/12/2021 18:18
