As I need inspiration to look after myself more but I hardly know where to begin other than I need to lose weight!

Hoping to get ideas from others as I'm not really into fashion and beauty and hoping to change this (within budget of course!)

Helpstopthepain · 25/12/2021 22:52

Place marking to join in! I’ll have a read through tomorrow

DukeofEarlGrey · 25/12/2021 23:12

I'm in too. I need to lose the 2 stone I have gradually gained over the last 5 years (accelerated by lockdowns) and then another stone to reach my ideal weight. I know what I need to do, just need to be consistent with exercise and eating right. I am happy with hair, skin, makeup etc. but have a wardrobe of lovely clothes that I want to get back into.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/12/2021 23:26

Oh yes , count me in !
I have a long overdue , already cancelled due to Covid in 2020 , holiday next April .

Plan is :
Every Friday , before breakfast to stand in the scales in my suite de birth and take a photo of the reading on my phone . Then I can track weekly how I'm doing . That is as tech as I get , no My Fitness Pal, no Apps or nonsense like that .

I bought myself an Alpha H set for my poor winter skin . I;m 55 now so it is suffering . Alpha H is ruddy marvelllous .

Definate plan to have my brows microbladed they are butchered and at least 1cm too short from my nose and pathetic tails . I have had good results with brow serum but not good enough . I need a better fix .

I want new glasses my sight is changing

And that will do for now .

IDKAYBIF32 · 26/12/2021 01:27

My plan:

Daily:
Get at least 6 hours sleep.
Take a multivitamin.
Wear SPF.
Spend 5 minutes on make up every morning (even if just a bit of mascara and tinted lip balm).
30 minutes of exercise (even if just a walk)
Drink 1.5 litres of water.
Do evening skincare routine (cleanse, tone, moisturise).
Floss.
Do a ten minute yoga video before bed.
Moisture my scaly legs before bed.
Cuticle oil and hand moisturiser.

Weekly:

  • DIY manicure. Painting my nails relaxes me so much and as much as I would love to pay someone else to do them, I can't afford it and gels ruin my nails.
  • Deep condition hair.
  • Use the ordinary AHA peel.

Every two weeks:

  • Have a leisurely bath, exfoliate, shave and use lumea (my legs are still pretty hair free but can't say the same for my armpits or bikini area!).
  • DIY pedicure.
  • DIY dermaplane.

Other to dos:

  • Spend a day clearing out wardrobe and donate anything that doesn't fit. Vacuum pack the out of season stuff away. Try on different outfits and take photos so I can plan outfits in advance. Start planning outfits for the week on a Sunday evening. Make sure I always have clean socks and pants (buy more socks and pants, nice ones).
  • Restart (and actually finish) couch to 5k. Even if I just repeat run 1 week 1 for all of 2022, it'll be something. Actually go to a park run and sign up for a 10km event instead of just thinking about it.
  • Book an appointment with the dental hygienist, look into getting teeth whitened.
  • Book a consultation with hairdresser to get hair bayalaged again.
  • Type up the organised mum method cleaning rota in a fancy font, laminate, stick on fridge, and get me and DP to actually stick to it for 15 minutes each a day.
  • Start listening to audibooks again.

...sounds a tad ambitious now it's all written down, but I'm hoping action will lead to motivation and spark more action. I've been fairly poorly with a chest infection and feeling low and have let things slide, I know that when I spend a bit of time on myself it makes me feel much better so I need to do it.

slaybellsringing · 26/12/2021 02:01

I think I've found my people. I have been thinking about this kind of thing in the back of my mind al day while stuffing my face with cheese and chocolate Grin

Skincare: I'm prone to hormonal break outs so very recently I've added 2% salyclic acid to my skincare routine. I think it's helping.

Exercise: zero And need to lose about a stone.

Diet: crap, see above.

Health: need to consistently take iron tablets as I'm Aneamic.

Beauty treatments: I'm having laser hair removal (the full Hollywood because I don't mess about with landing strips) and underarms. I'm two treatments in and it's already smooth as fuck so no adjustments needed here Grin however. I could possibly do with a teeth whitening course.

Hair: I think I'm actually quite good at looking after my hair to be fair. I do have regular blonde highlights which can be drying but my hair is in very good condition because I do pamper it a lot. If only I exercised as much as I oiled my hair.

Also random beauty thoughts:

Regular hand cream
Dry body brush
Hamam more often (if you don't know what this is you are missing out on LIFE. Google, book in and report back promptly)

Does anyone else have random beauty thoughts? I wonder if women having random beauty thoughts throughout the day is the same as men having random sex thoughts throughout the day Grin

Lupinspotato · 26/12/2021 06:52

I’m in!

Similar to many others, I want to do the following:

Restart couch to 5k
Learn to look after my hair and nails
Lose 7kg
Sort out wardrobe and let go of the really old worn-out stuff that I can’t seem to let go
Do my physio exercises
Try to do at least 10 minutes of yoga a day
Try to read a book at least 10 minutes per day
Get back on TOMM
Cut down on sugar

I would add sleep more but my toddler seems to disagree with that one!

msc6199 · 26/12/2021 07:43

These are all absolutely amazing ideas!

For me I intend to

Daily:

Drink 2l of water
Hit 10,000 steps each day
Wash, tone, moisturise face and apply tinted lip balm each day as a minimum
Straighten/style hair each day (during lockdown I would throw it up in a .easy bun, but that never stopped post-lockdown!)

Weekly:

Buy myself a fresh bunch of flowers
Have a candlelit bath, a good shave and scrub and moisturise all over post-both
Choose outfits for the week in advance so that I've always got nice outfits put together, rather than throwing together any old top and bottoms (usually gym wear for ease and lack of effort)

Monthly:

Get my nails done at the salon
Eyebrow thread and tint (haven't had them tinted for months now!)

I also want to loose about 5kg by the spring/summer time. I've got a new gym membership and DP bought me some personal training sessions that I asked for so I'm looking forward to this! Good luck all 💖

2022 is the year of us! X

Restlessinthenorth · 26/12/2021 09:13

I'd love to join. Goals for me:

2 litre of water daily
Multivitamin
No more snacking between meals (in an effort to shift this lockdown stone)
Back into my nice clothes, rather than gym gear

What date are people starting? Anticipating a fair bi more food and drink for next few days, so need to be realistic

heelforheelandtoefortoe · 26/12/2021 10:20

I might start 5th Jan cause with DH around I have no chance, he's incredibly greedy and never sticks to any diet

OP posts:
TheDuchessOfMN · 26/12/2021 10:21

I need to do this.

@Restlessinthenorth I’m loosely starting today (no more mindless eating, and will go for a long walk) but strictly from January 1st

I have the Space NK advent calendar, so lots of lovely luxury skincare to try

CaptainMal · 26/12/2021 10:30

I will join. Some great ideas here. I think I will start 1st Jan but going for a walking holiday from 28th so will naturally ease off the Christmas excess before the 1st anyway.

For me:

  • 2l of water daily
  • dry brushing a few times a week
  • aim for 10k steps 5 times a week
  • do 16:8

Had put on an inch on my hips over lockdown - not a big thing at all but all my beautiful pre-pandemic clothes are very precisely tailored and so none of them fit any more. Going to give myself a year to lose it and if it doesn't happen, I will just make a trip to the seamstress with several arm loads of clothes!

LesLavandes · 26/12/2021 10:33

I'm in.

Dry January
Try to lose weight
More exercise
Better attitude towards my life

Looking forward

IDKAYBIF32 · 26/12/2021 10:36

@msc6199

I love the idea of buying yourself flowers every week! I'm on a bit of a budget atm, but might buy myself a bunch from Aldi.

For starting dates, I'm planning on starting my daily list today and tomorrow. I will probably drink a litre and a half of bucks fizz today rather that water, but I have had a good sleep, been for a walk, put spf and some make up on etc.

Planning on restarting couch to 5k tomorrow evening. Might have my leisurely bath afterwards.

IDKAYBIF32 · 26/12/2021 10:40

I'm also going to add keeping a gratitude diary: I've only done it once before for a few weeks, nothing fancy I would just make a note on my phone of something nice that had happened that day, like ran into so and so and had a catch up, had a nice lie in, tried a new recipe etc. Made a difference to my mood so will try again.

vjg13 · 26/12/2021 10:46

I'm in too, mainly around diet and exercise but do love a good beauty product.

Increase runs and more walking.
Less sugar, general crap to eat.

I try to think of a gratitude list of 10 things before I wake up or during an insomniac episode and it does help.

Lidl are meant to good for less expensive flowers BiscuitThanks

NameChangeCity123 · 26/12/2021 10:54

This is a great idea Smile

NameChangeCity123 · 26/12/2021 10:56

@Jessie75

Do we have a to do list ; Im thinking an extra glass of water each day, currently zero so upping it to 1, 2, 3 and eventually 8 should be doable. Moisturiser every day Hand cream after washing up each time Lippy when leaving the house from now onwards
What is it about lipstick that just makes you feel so much better? Always makes me feel pulled together even if it's the only thing that does 😂
Happytot · 26/12/2021 11:01

I'm in too!

I want to get back to these small daily habits.

  1. lemon and hot water first thing in the morning.
  2. 30 min exercise.
  3. 2L water daily.
  4. 30 min housework.

If I can get back into this routine again, everything else will sort itself out, I will lose some weight, have more energy and have pride in my appearance and love my clothes again! I used to love fashion and beauty but I've lost my mojo recently.

LefttoherownDevizes · 26/12/2021 11:11

I'm in.

Try tret for a final time being religious about buffering to see if can tolerate;
Early morning stretching then shower every morning and dressed before kids up for school;
15 minutes quiet reading/prayer/intentions for the day;
Restrict phone to hour in morning/hour in evening;
Small walk before starting work and then big walk/work out later in day;
Have a go with second hand lumea still in box;
Try yoga with Adrienne;
Only snack at set times;
Read and implement mindful eating from Dr Joshua Wolrich book

BELIEVE I CAN DO IT AND AN WORTH IT

nextslideplease · 26/12/2021 11:21

I've already signed up to weekly flowers from freddies flowers (my code is KirsteA91 if anyone else wants them). They are lovely so far and help lift my mood.

I'm also going to try to go a long walk every weekend and do slimming world. Also eating less chocolate!

SocksAndTheCity · 26/12/2021 12:23

I'm in too! I'll be starting on January 1st as I still have Christmas food everywhere and I'm a realist.

I want to get back to running every day (or at least every other day) and Yoga With Adrienne every evening.

Get through my insane hoard of beauty products but with a proper regime rather than just faffing about.

Stop eating when I'm just bored and not actually hungry and make sure I have sensible things in the fridge (I always used to have a tub of carrot and cucumber sticks with baby corn and cherry tomatoes plus a couple of boiled eggs handy to stop me eating everything in the kitchen, and I lost the habit)

Wear more of my clothes because I have lots of lovely ones and yet always seem to stick the same few things on partly because I'm a bit too fat for some of them at the moment

I am going to look up Freddies Flowers Smile

CommanderBurnham · 26/12/2021 13:36

@LefttoherownDevizes

I thought I was intolerant to tret
Until I started with skin and me. They started me off on a really small dose 0.009 or even less and although I got a mild breakout it was nowhere near as bad as the horrific cysts I got previously. I am now on 0.015 and it's worked really well. They have a £3 first month I think.

LefttoherownDevizes · 26/12/2021 13:56

@CommanderBurnham sadly I've been with them for nearly a year, after about 3/4 months (at only 0.015%) my skin just freaks out. Also badly dries my eyes out despite vaseline googles around them first.

We're a v eczema/allergy family though and have rubbish skin barrier, trying to build it up p

CommanderBurnham · 26/12/2021 15:14

Oh no. Ask to go back down to the milder dose perhaps? I'm sure it's a lot more complex with eczema.

singlikenooneislistening · 26/12/2021 15:59

I'm in I really need to make changes to my diet and wear the clothes that I have! I just hope I last longer than January
