For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Fête, I'm confused, by your mention of formula change do you mean since you went from one concentration to the next or has Dermatica reformulated their base formula. If the latter, I've always suspected Dermatica were using microtret, if they've suddenly switched to normal tret it would explain the more severe reaction to it.

OP posts:
VillageFete · 11/06/2021 20:56

@Mulletsaremisunderstood I will persevere and see how I go. I use it every other night, no way could I handle nightly!

@botemp Yes, they’ve changed their base, apparently the new base enhances the absorption of the active ingredients. I’ve definitely noticed the peeling since the change, I didn’t peel before and wondered if that meant it wasn’t working.

ilovemydogandmrobama2 · 12/06/2021 15:02

After being a fan of Skin + Me, have gone to the dark side and am now Team Dermatica. After a year and on 0.05% Tret, felt that I needed hydroquinone which Skin + Me don't prescribe, but Dermatica do.

Re: Vit C - I bit the bullet and got Skineuticals C&E (but used the money left on account from laser treatment which I didn't use - seems cheaper that way... Hmm)

Oh and SPF, am quite happy with Solait 50 - it's a Superdrug own brand and £3.99 for 100ml and great for body/kids. There is a facial one which I want to try.

botemp · 12/06/2021 15:08

Sounds like you picked the right time to move, MrObama, if they've made their formula more effective. Although I did find it comforting that Dermatica had a formulation more akin to microtret that was less sensitising, especially since they're a bit more handsoff with the hand holding aspect of it. I guess there's now very little between the two aside from whatever else they can add to the formula.

Fête, no, peeling doesn't necessarily mean it's working, or more effective, it just means you're more sensitive to it. You might need to dial back and up the moisturiser use, or buffer over moisturiser instead for a while.

ilovemydogandmrobama2 · 12/06/2021 20:08

@botemp - the texture of what arrived on the doorstep is different from what I previously have received from Dermatica. In the past it has been a gel form but this is definitely a cream; more akin to the traditional tret, so I have hope.

But tbh, they have been just as attentive as Skin + Me. I did ask Skin + Me for hydroquinone but they said it was a policy not to prescribe which make me jump ship. Perhaps Dermatica have had to up their game as Skin + Me are around?

VillageFete · 12/06/2021 21:45

I found a Company online called Bare Face that stock Timeless Vit C… I’ve pressed ahead and ordered. I hope I haven’t been duped Hmm

botemp · 12/06/2021 22:11

Eek, the trustpilot is not entirely positive. They also claim to be an official timeless stockist but the only one listed on the US timeless site is the Timeless UK site so that's a dodgy claim.

It's odd as there's a site from the same people who run Timeless UK which is called Barefection, that also sell some Timeless and was the main site before it split up and they then renamed it. I initially thought you were able to purchase from there again. The similarity in names is a bit suspect.

Anyhow, hope it's not a complete scam and just a small business that's having teething problems.

We’ll soon find out @botemp Confused It’ll probably be a really blatant fake when it arrives!! It’s due here by Tuesday.

botemp · 13/06/2021 09:47

I suspect that they just import small batches, worst case scenario is probably that it's on the older side. With the new pump bottles they do keep longer, so long as it's not fully oxidised (orange) it should probably be okay.

The fakes accusations were mostly about the ordinary which is a brand which isn't all that consistent so I can see how that happened.

I bought these SPFs from my local beauty salon last week. I really like them. Not tried Heliocare for a few years.

ilovemydogandmrobama2 · 15/06/2021 14:19

I really like Heliocare now that Altruist Face Fluid is no longer in my good books. Had a dreadful hay fever which seemingly went into my eyes. Got prescription eye drops.

DH then suggests that perhaps it's sunscreen getting into my eyes, and he was right Shock Shock

Now using Avene 50 which is thicker so better for eyes!

Changing over to Dermatica isn't the smooth transition I thought it would be, so have cut out Vit C and Azeliac Acid.

NinnyNewName · 15/06/2021 14:58

So did the eye drops help, or was it still partly hay fever related?

ilovemydogandmrobama2 · 15/06/2021 17:28

Well, it would seem that it the symptoms went away when I changed sunscreen Blush

VillageFete · 16/06/2021 22:51

My Timeless has arrive from Bare Face. Do we think it’s legit?

Can you take a picture of the front of the box.

I can't tell if it's the quality of the picture or not but the side of the box has some very close set letters, especially when bold, which feels off but it may just be out of focus.

botemp · 17/06/2021 08:22

Ok, it might be a fake, unfortunately. It should have the manufacturing date and batch code on the front. When it was still in a dropper bottle the front looked like yours does. Maybe they've changed it back recently and placed it elsewhere on the box? If in doubt I'd contact Timeless directly.

And also, looking at them side by side, the layout of serum in the white text box looks different, it's not as closely aligned to the edge in the original.

In case anyone is still waiting out for a good offer, the Foreo bears are in the cult beauty sale with a good discount (25% ISH), best offer I've seen anyhow.

Serenster · 24/06/2021 09:47

The Foreo site were matching that price @botemp, so I have bought a UFO (I already have a bear and am pleased with it). I now need to figure out how to use it - does anyone have one?

botemp · 24/06/2021 13:24

Serenster, I must admit I've looked at the UFO several times and am still clueless as to what it does. I think you can use it with a sheetmask as well? If I'm in the market for another gadget I'm probably thinking LED mask next but I have a feeling the current ones have been around for a while and prices are dropping so a new and improved technical step up must be on its way so I'm holding off for a bit.

@BabyPigeon have you received your Lisa Eldridge goodies yet?

OP posts:
BabyPigeon · 24/06/2021 15:50

@botemp Yes I did. Grin
I am pleased with most of them. The blush blends in seamlessly. I don't use foundation, I just pat it over SPF and I look as sunburned as everyone. It's very easy to apply and looks like skin. It will also last a long time, a small amount is sufficient. I only tried pink soap , I gifted island glow and I haven't opened mountain walk yet.
I only tried the highlighter once, it's not something I want to use daily. It looked nice but at the end of the day I spotted some sparkly specks on my skin which I was surprised about. I will have to try it properly. I have no experience with liquid highlighters.
As for the lipsticks, not sure if the lucent formula is the best one for me, I like painterly, it's very nice and natural but I can't get the cherry one to apply evenly, it's very comfortable but I think it glides too much and it does not last. I prefer the saturated and the velvet formulas.
Off topic, I think Wayne Goss will release a mascara. Grin

Tsmummy08 · 24/06/2021 16:16

Good luck with your mortgage Queen - if you're just replacing things, that's surely fine?!

Ahem, I ended up ordering one of the LE lipsticks after all Blush Got Kitten Mischief which is lovely - possibly the best MLBB shade I've ever tried, natural but makes me look less corpse-like. However, as BP said, very light texture. Not a bad thing for my dry/crepey lips though...

Also UltraViolette - SpaceNK refunded the Queen Screen and gave me a decent sample of the Supreme Screen, which I'll purchase. It's very moisturising without feeling like an oil slick and good under makeup.

BabyPigeon · 24/06/2021 19:05

@Tsmummy08 I actually was considering to get that shade as well, but I went for Painterly in the end. I like how the formula feels, but I wish the application was more even (on the red cherry one, Painterly is fine, even if not long lasting).
Have you tried the lip glosses? I recently noticed they really make the lips very soft and the softness lasts. I think the formula is very nourishing, feel more like a good lip treatment than a makeup item. I will use mine more frequently.
