For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

I didn't get anything! I have a few recent skin/body purchases
Had to make a GP appointment as I have sudden severe back acne Sad that's making me feel disgusting. I've never had back spots in my life
Tried dettol soap, hibiscrub, murad BHA wash, paulas choice BHA... just started the murad back acne spray but I think it needs antibiotics. They're really deep and sore and no idea what's causing them

Tsmummy08 · 28/10/2021 08:28

Notmycat That sounds really rubbish - I've heard hair conditioners implicated in back ance before but that sounds particularly severe... hormonal fluctuations? Reaction to meds you're on? Hope you find a solution....

botemp · 28/10/2021 09:21

I completely forgot about the LE launch when it happened Blush by the time I remembered I assumed it was all sold out. Masks are in all likelihood making a comeback here so it's probably for the best.

How annoying about the back acne cat, if it's so severe it does sound more like there's a hormonal component.

I wash my hair totally separately so that should be ok
The ones you can't see are deep and painful, it hurts to lie on my back. Haven't changed anything at all!

I ended up getting only one lipstick , the blush lightly which is really nice and a lip pencil for the velvet morning lipstick, to improve the staying power.
I ordered multiple sample cards of the foundation and I can't seem to find my match. Either too light or too dark/yellow. I agree that everyone should be included, but personally I find 40 shades overwhelming.

botemp · 28/10/2021 09:51

Yes, my experience is the more shades, the least likely I'm able to find a good match. Granted, I'm an odd colour and that's mainly why I've never bothered with foundation. I don't understand why the whole custom foundation route has never accelerated, I know Lancome had it in really select locations but it seems like a better solution than producing ridiculous number of shades and then all the darker ones ending up in tkmaxx.

I've just had a browse on LE and a lot of it is still available. Hmm...

OP posts:
BabyPigeon · 28/10/2021 14:37

Most of the new shades are gone I think, but because there are so many shades now in total, also lipsticks glosses and pencils, they stay in stock for longer. Probably she also makes bigger batches now.
I wonder if everybody can be included in a foundation release without the need for 40 shades. I don't blame her, anything less would have attracted backlash. Fenty set the standard and here we are. I guess it depends on the formula, low coverage ones can get away with fewer shades. For me the formula is leaning a bit too matte, I wish it was a bit more dewy/luminous.

@NotMyCat Please try to not feel bad about your backne, for me it's a monthly thing, just before and during my period, every month. I found that using the clinisoothe spray helps also BHA from Paula's choice and on the most angry spots the inkey list new spot treatment, the one with a green colour in a small tube seems to kill them quicker, also the BHA face wash from inkey list I used it on the back as well. But hopefully the GP would be able to prescribe something stronger. The back is naturally prone to acne, sadly.

botemp · 28/10/2021 14:53

She has a European warehouse now, I'm guessing stock levels are different, only cinnabar is sold out as lipstick and gloss and another new gloss colour (petal, maybe?) when I browsed her website.

Yes, I totally understand she couldn't get away with a small shade range and I appreciate she's trying with all the different undertones, that does feel like a point of difference.

How is AHA with bacne in your experience? I heard some have great results with a high percentage AHA body wash. I've actually been looking at the Drunk Elephant AHA body lotion, bit more expensive than the one I use now but at least I wouldn't need to order it from the US.

OP posts:
BabyPigeon · 28/10/2021 15:17

I just had a look, I assume there will be a restock soon: lipsticks in petal, cinnabar, blush lightly and blush are gone; glosses in petal, cinnabar, songbird and affair also gone; pencils in petal, cinnabar, blush lightly , affair, ribbon and muse gone as well.
I have never tried an aha body wash, except one from ameliorate, which I assume has some aha. It was ok for winter dry skin. Not sure I noticed anything on my back.
Cultbeauty had 20% off drunk elephant so I ordered the new aha lotion, I only used it last night and it's not sticky at all, it's very comfortable, I am comparing it with the ameliorate lotion. Paula's choice aha lotion is also very comfortable and non sticky but more expensive. Need to use the full (very cute) bottle to tell which one is better.

It's very annoying that given there are 40 shades I can't seem to find a match. The ones I picked for me, looking at the pictures on the site, turn out very light. Too bad I don't live in London because she is opening a pop up shop this Saturday where she will launch it and probably help with foundation matching.

botemp · 28/10/2021 18:06

Ameliorate is lactic acid I think, it was glycolic acid body wash people with bacne mentioned specifically (US brand we don't get here think it was some makeup brand and dirt cheap).

It's 20% off Drunk Elephant on SpaceNK until tonight but I'll await your experience before putting in an order, I still have some of my Alpha one and those DE offers seem to occur quite frequently.

The pop up sounds nice, lip colour products aren't something I usually buy online so it would be nice to see it all in the flesh. It's weird, I'm signed up to her newsletter and barely get informed about anything. I think there was one newsletter a few days in advance of the restocking but nothing on the day itself or after 🤷

OP posts:
BabyPigeon · 28/10/2021 18:20

I can't remember how many launch newsletters I received but I think I get my info from them and also Instagram (which I don't like but use just to be updated on a handful of things). I see ppl on Instagram complaining that they didn't receive newsletters. It's very odd. I don't mind buying lipsticks online but I would love a be matched for a foundation in person, I rarely get it right online.
I will use the DE lotion every night, hope to get rid of the dry belly skin. Confused

I’m on a budget AND trying to reduce my stockpile so no advent calendars or LE for me Sad

That being said I’m having my eyebrows micro bladed on 6th November finally decided to go for it after swithering for years! When are you having yours done Ts?

I’m still loving my bear 🐻 but occasionally find it does that thing where it won’t turn off when not in contact with my face if it gets too wet, ie I’ve sprayed too much thermal water on my face so I’m being careful about that.

That looks painful Notmycat Sad I hope you find relief soon.

NotMyCat · 28/10/2021 20:49

I'm drenched in the murad back spray. The spray is utter shit, more of a jet. Feels cold and tingly! I've been washing, then spraying it and letting it dry before I get dressed

Tsmummy08 · 01/11/2021 13:04

@SallieSallow I'm getting my brows done on the 15th - stopped using tret a week ago, just using lactic acid once or twice a week... I'll be interested in hearing your experience, it's something I've wanted to do for ages so I'm excited to see the end results :)

SallieSallow · 01/11/2021 20:30

Mine are this Saturday so will let you know Tsmummy but might not post photos if they’re horrendous Grin though think it takes a few weeks for them to settle and then you have your second appointment.

Wondering how to wash my hair without getting them wet - interested to hear any recommendations for that from Notmycat or anyone else who’s had them done, I can go a week without washing my hair but supposed to do two Confused

I’ve not been using tret for a while and also off Vit c as per instructions, no alcohol the day/night before which is fair enough but also no coffee Shock or painkillers.

I wash my hair over the bath so that worked quite well and I kept a flannel to hand in case of any drips. Basically tipped myself upside down Grin Unless you fashion some sort of cling film protection maybe..
SallieSallow · 03/11/2021 20:35

That sounds like a plan Notmycat Grin

I’ve also bought some stick on protector things from Amazon, will let you know if they’re any good TsMummy

NotMyCat · 03/11/2021 20:41

Been to the GP today and have duac gel for my back
I said it's weird as my face is fine and I quote "well even with a mask on you can tell you have lovely skin. You must know about skincare"
😂😂😂😂

BabyPigeon · 04/11/2021 15:09

What a nice GP! I hope duac works. I never used it but I used skinoren and I hated the consistency (on my face,). I used a lot of zineryt, which really worked on my forehead. I assume prescription is needed in UK for all these. I miss being able to just get them at the pharmacy with no fuss.
Off topic I saw the newsletter for Lisa's foundation, it will arrive on Saturday at 4pm. I wish I liked it. I noticed it's not the colour that bothers me really, I can get by with 5, 6 or 7 but for some reason, it coats and colours my blonde peach fuzz and makes it really obvious and who wants that ? Confused. Also on Instagram I saw mentioned of some liquid eyeshadows. Did anyone visit her store? It looks great in the pictures.

NotMyCat · 04/11/2021 15:36

I tried the foundation and didn't like it
Took photos too if it helps anyone. Colour spot on, left a weird patch on my cheek that wouldn't blend out and clung to dry patches
Would probably be great on more oily skin

BabyPigeon · 04/11/2021 15:52

I thought I have oily skin but maybe not so much anymore. And it's not oily everywhere. So maybe it's combo now. But the word seamless made me thing of some very flattering formulas similar to the ones from by Terry, formulas that are forgiving and don't enhance pores, peach fuzz, lines, dry patches etc. But I think we are in the minority based on the feedback I see on Instagram. 🤷‍♀️

NotMyCat · 04/11/2021 15:56

I would say it was matte, flat and unforgiving as opposed to dewy buttery glowing seamless

SallieSallow · 08/11/2021 20:59

Brows are done Shock they’re a bit dark/heavy at the moment and also slightly crusty Hmm but apparently will lighten/settle over the next few weeks then I go back for the final adjustment/touch ups etc.

I don’t like them much at the moment but friends who’ve seen me IRL and colleagues who’ve seen me on video calls think they look good so think I’m probably just not used to having any eyebrows! I was literally down to about 10 hairs per brow and as I don’t wear makeup much anymore I’d just got used to myself with the no brow look Grin

Tsmummy08 · 09/11/2021 07:36

Ooh thanks for the headsup Sallie - how are the plastic shield thingies? I don't wash my hair very often but will definitely need to at some point... and cleansing - guess it'll be cream cleanser or micellar for a couple of weeks?

SallieSallow · 09/11/2021 11:51

I haven’t tried the shield things yet Ts as I’d washed my hair Saturday morning so waiting as long as I can before washing again. I’ve got dry non greasy hair that actually looks/behaves better when it’s not washed too often but 2 weeks might be pushing it Shock then again I WFH & don’t have anything planned this coming weekend so might get away with it!

I’ve been using a damp face cloth to wash my face but put the cerave cream cleanser directly on it so it acts more like a wipe, then rinse the cloth thoroughly and use it damp again to remove cleanser, keeping well away from the brows!

I’ve got special ointment I have to put on the brows 2x a day and I think they’re starting to look a bit better - or maybe just me getting used to them Grin
