Whether that be clothing or cosmetics, I'm interested to hear your opinions. I have a few of my own thoughts on this, though I could be way off the mark.

Am in need of a boost and think I might be unwittingly ageing myself before my time.

Thanks.

I’ve always loved a twin set. So feminine & classy. Pearls are timeless & ageless - been wearing them since my 20s & I’ll never stop.

Floisme · 09/01/2021 15:06

Pearls are on my 2021 wish list. I want some like Olivia Colman's in The Crown although I'll have to settle for fake.

Young people do not have a monopoly on friendliness or positivity, however much some of them might wish to think so.

Readingandrighting · 09/01/2021 15:08

I don’t think there are any rules to be honest! Wear whatever the heck you want, like most men do. I’m just happy to be alive & in reasonable health!

VanillaAndOrange · 09/01/2021 16:17

That would sum up my mum's look but would that not make them granny boots as she's in her 60s now?

I think granny boots means something very specific that is usually considered quite stylish - this sort of thing. (I have owned these in black, loved them and was sad when they came to the end of the line, but I can't afford them at full price.)

Oh I totally agree with this. Everyone should wear what they feel comfortable in.

That said, my examples are just things that Ive noticed about people I have assumed were MUCH older than they actually were and were actually quite shocked to find out their real age.

Obviously, people should do what is comfortable for them

I think they might be too glam to be mumboots or granny boots.

I imagine mumboots and grannyboots to be much more practical.

Gwenhwyfar · 09/01/2021 17:08

@Ddot

Wow twin sets are in and so are pearls where have you all been
If I wear 'old fashioned' things because they're in fashion I'll just look old fashioned though whereas a trendier person might look trendy in them. Same way I couldn't wear geeky glasses in an ironic way.
Ddot · 09/01/2021 17:52

Gwenhwyfar
Dont wear something because its fashionable wear it because you love it.

It will look good because you feel good.
As for twin set, look on Zara website. I wear with skinny or mam jeans

Ddot · 09/01/2021 17:59

I sold some out of fashion gold for my cultured sea Pearl's. Not natural sea Pearl's but who can afford them. You can get cultured freshwater Pearl's very reasonable and who would ever know.

This thread is bollox

Have your hair and dress how you like

Russellbrandshair · 09/01/2021 18:07

Agree with grey hair.

Never flattering, always ages.

Ddot · 09/01/2021 18:07

Don't do head to toe granny style, mix and match I love a molly dress with dr martens

ShrikeAttack · 09/01/2021 19:22

This thread is bollox, it is indeed @whenwillthemadnessend.

I'm always perplexed by the grey-hair hatred, don't like it, don't have it, some people look fantastic with it though. I know loads of people that don't conform to these arbitrary rules and look amazing.

It's not about age though is it? I don't know why youth is prized so highly, age is more of an achievement! I never strive to look younger, I'm not even sure I strive to look what many people would consider 'good'.

I strive to look like me, and the older I get, the more I know who that person is.

(Plus I can afford really ace clothes that I couldn't when I was 25).

DenisetheMenace · 09/01/2021 19:24

My grey hair is bloody gorgeous 😁

If you are referring to me, not once did I say I “hate it”. The op specifically asked opinions on what ages people. I think grey hair does. I don’t find it ever flatters anyone. I’m quite sure people would find aspects of my appearance unflattering too snd that’s fine as beauty is subjective!

woodhill · 09/01/2021 19:32

It's so liberating not to colour and if it ages me I'm past caring, the roots came through so quickly

Maireas · 09/01/2021 19:37

Grey hair can be very flattering. It can look so natural yet sophisticated and elegant.
Often it's less ageing than fake colour.

ShrikeAttack · 09/01/2021 19:39

I wasn't referring to you specifically Russell, it's been one of the most commonly mentioned things on the thread.

I just dont think that's true. Admittedly, a salt & pepper, unkempt barnet combined with a sallow complexion won't look great (although if someone wants that I ain't judging), but some women have beautiful grey/sliver hair that genuinely suits their complexion.

It is, after all, just another hair colour, and 'silver-fox' men seem to be lauded.

So it must just be boring old misogyny amd ageism when it comes to women.

Either that, or it's some kind of horrified internal reaction from some women that other women aren't playing the game, which causes a visceral rejection of grey hair in all its forms.

I honestly don't know!

Russellbrandshair · 09/01/2021 20:25

Maybe yeah. Or maybe just personal preference? I never bought into the idea that being blue eyed and blonde was the pinnacle of attractiveness even though that’s the message the media told me constantly when growing up. I’ve always thought black hair and dark eyes were the most mesmerising and beautiful.

I just like that combo

Ddot · 09/01/2021 20:35

Dark and mysterious

Ddot · 09/01/2021 20:40

I've tried to grow my grey through but it looks awful half way and I give up. One day I will persevere, fed up with the mess every few weeks.

ShrikeAttack · 09/01/2021 21:50

Neither did I.

Hair colour is irrelevant. It's the woman that lives within the hair. Not the hair. That makes a difference.

Floisme · 09/01/2021 23:23

Thank you for the pearls tips Ddot
Smile

I like a nice brooch too, on the lapel of a tweed coat - even better if it's a men's overcoat.

Kintsugi16 · 09/01/2021 23:24

Discoloured teeth
Thin brows
Pearly or matte makeup
Dull hair
Matronly ‘bosom’
Cankles
Miserable demeanour

NiceGerbil · 10/01/2021 03:06

Matronly bosom?

What are women with big boobs supposed to do to avoid this? Out of interest.
