Whether that be clothing or cosmetics, I'm interested to hear your opinions. I have a few of my own thoughts on this, though I could be way off the mark.

Am in need of a boost and think I might be unwittingly ageing myself before my time.

Thanks.

Me too, Candy, but there's a lot I can't work out on this thread. Must be my age Confused

Gwenhwyfar · 08/01/2021 23:02

@cathyandclare

Yes othering I am. Bizarre I know- but they've already gone down after cutting back for a week.

They've been heavy above the eyes more than below. It may be because I've got small hooded eyes, or because I usually low carb but it is dramatic for me- unfortunately!!! The other thing that makes my bags worse is eye cream.

Just bags or shadows/circles too?
Gwenhwyfar · 08/01/2021 23:03

"Why would wearing nude underwear mean you're never seen in your underwear? I'm confused!!"

I think the poster meant that nobody usually sees your underwear.

NiceGerbil · 08/01/2021 23:12

I think that poster was implying that women who wear nude in in underwear never get undressed in front of a partner/ have sex.

Tbh I've never met a man who really cared about the underwear if sex was on the horizon!

ShrikeAttack · 08/01/2021 23:26

I think Starlight actually meant, irrespective of the underwear, it's more ageing if you're not getting regular sex. Henceforth, no-one sees you in your underwear!

I wasn't talking about Starlight's comment.

CandyLeBonBon was though!

Well quite! In fact I'm wearing nude underwear right now and I'm definitely going to have sex! I can assure you that the colour of my underwear is in no way off putting to my dp inspire of none being a decrepit 51! 😂
StarlightLady · 09/01/2021 08:30

The case for my defence, as a few people have chosen to have a pop at me for a lighthearted remark.

For those who have taken the trouble to read the full thread, you will see that l was basing my comments on looking at myself in a mirror, not judging others.

I listed having my hair tied back and wearing so called nude underwear in seperate posts.

I was not commenting on other’s choices. These are the things that looking in the mirror age me.

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/01/2021 09:13

@cathyandclareI think eye cream gives you eye bags, I put a tiny amount of normal moisturiser on my cheek bones to hydrate that area & have no bags at 43.

A woman dh worked with dyes her hair too dark, wears lots of heavy eyeliner, bright lipsticks and looks older than me. Someone actually referred to her as aunt sally because of the make up in jest but there’s many a true word said in jest. My skin tone definitely can’t take bright colours now with make up.

Last time I put red lipstick on dh did a double take and asked why I was trying to look older. So that went in the bin.

CandyLeBonBon · 09/01/2021 09:14

Fair enough @StarlightLady - I just don't understand how nude underwear is aging! I recognise it was lighthearted but I was still confused! Grin

pensivepigeon · 09/01/2021 09:17

In that case, wearing my newest prescription glasses is very ageing! As soon as I take them off all my wrinkles disappear!Grin

StarlightLady · 09/01/2021 09:46

@pensivepigeon - The trouble is, l can’t even see the mirror without my glasses on!

@CandyLeBonBon - (love the user name btw), seeing myself in beige (nude) underwear, puts 10 years on me, trust me on that.

Maireas · 09/01/2021 09:59

@StarlightLady Why does the nude underwear age you, though - genuine question? Do you look younger in white underwear? Just chuck the nude stuff away if it's depressing.

scryingeyes · 09/01/2021 10:12

I have grey hair, ditched the dye about three years ago. Although very liberating and much leas hassle, a man recently thought I was my husband's mother which was quite upsetting.
Also agree that I would look younger if I wasn't so plump.
I am trying to loose weight to try and improve my health and my image, I feel pretty frumpy at times, but will not dye my hair again.

peaceanddove · 09/01/2021 10:33

It's disingenuous to rule out very short hair for the over 40s. Judi Dench, Naga Munchetty and Halle Berry all look far more striking and pretty with a very short crop, than they do with longer hair. A very well cut pixie-crop, and it has to be well cut, is eye-catching and distinctive in a way a regular Bob or shoulder length layers never can be.

But IMO, in order to carry off a short crop you need cheek bones, big eyes and a nicely shaped head. I'm 50 and have had a messy, pixie crop for the last few years and have never had so many complements about my hair. It's only because it's a cut that genuinely suits me and it's textured style lends itself to my favoured tomboy style (today's outfit is distressed jeans, very chunky Chelsea boots and oversized cashmere v neck).

My Auntie was a model back in the 60s and early 70s. She has always worn her hair cropped, and now at 75 is still very striking and pretty, and far more eye catching than most women who are far younger.

CandyLeBonBon · 09/01/2021 11:20

Awww @StarlightLady I'm sure it doesn't - maybe if they were applecatchers though...😉

GrinGrin Is it too late to put them up for adoption?

Ddot · 09/01/2021 11:31

Nana style is in haven't you noticed, midi skirts oversized cardigans with pockets comfy boots and a lovely brooch. Finally I'm fashionable 🤣

My DM used to lie about her age. I asked whether people thought she had been a teenage mother and she replied that they just didn't know how old I was!
SpeckledyHen · 09/01/2021 12:39

I’ve had a fringe since I was 5 . Must have always looked old then .

Dugee · 09/01/2021 14:47

Agree.

I tried a crop when I was 30. I looked like a man with boobs.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 09/01/2021 14:53

These are just my personal opinion, no offence meant to anyone but just what i have noticed:

  1. Grey hair always ages you, no matter how beautiful or stunning you are. Ive seen catwalk models with grey hair and I still think it looks awful on them, washes their skin tone out and ages them by decades.
  1. Being overweight or underweight. Both makes you appear older.
  1. Loads of cosmetic procedures in your 20s. I'm all for filler and botox when you actually NEED it but you dont at age 20 and it makes 20 year olds look 40.
  1. Thin lips, smokers lines, too much sun exposure all make you look older
  1. Dressing like someone older than you are. Eg. Tweed skirts, twin set and pearls, beige flat shoes, tan tights etc- all very ageing.
  1. Attitude. People who radiate a confident, friendly, fun vibe always appear younger than people who go around constantly negative, whiny, and moaning.
Ddot · 09/01/2021 15:02

Wow twin sets are in and so are pearls where have you all been
