Whether that be clothing or cosmetics, I'm interested to hear your opinions. I have a few of my own thoughts on this, though I could be way off the mark.

Am in need of a boost and think I might be unwittingly ageing myself before my time.

Thanks.

@pangolina

In my experience, I can age overnight by not drinking enough water. I look tired and sallow and puffy but wizened. It's not good! I also inexplicably turn into my mother (34 yrs my senior) if I put on khaki parka, so mine has just gone to the charity shop!
Agree about the water. It's such a cliche but it makes a huge difference.

I don't drink alcohol often...pretty much tee total, but on the odd occasion I do have one, I can see the difference in my face.

My guess is that it’s the colour - do you have dark blond / light brown hair and sallow skin ?

And / or it might be the style. I’m a dramatic classic and I’d look like a bag lady in a khaki parka.

So for me the style AND colour are wrong. But on someone else my age they could look great.

When you are in your 20s and 30s you can get away with wearing clothes that are wrong for you , but you need to be careful after that. Hence so many posters here saying that they used to be able to wear black but not now.

Grey hair. Face- some people have naturally very round faces which age very well. Most of us need botox and fillers if our faces are not to be a dead giveaway. Uneven skin tone, state of necks and hands. You can hold back the damage by slathering with sunblock. Laser treatment or artful foundation can deal with squinting. I have cousins in their forties with naturally round faces who are routinely taken for being in mid twenties by other twenty somethings. Ironically, neither of them could care less and dress much like their very conservative mum who is in her late seventies.

ItsDinah · 01/02/2021 18:22

Whoops. For squinting read skin tone.

People continuing to wear the same colours at 50 that suited them at 30. Skin colour and hair colour change with age and so colours that once suited, no longer do so.

I am fifty something my face is wrinkle free but unfortunately its slightly shifted and my neck looks like a melted welly. I did loose a lot of weight fast but have put some back on. Not a lot I can do about it, I'm not bad for an old trout. I like polo neck jumpers anyway so that's good. I think dressing too young can age you just as dressing too old. By the time you get in your forties you should have found your own style and what suits you. If not rely on a good friends advice

Jeans with heels - so ageing.
