What instantly ages?

Whether that be clothing or cosmetics, I'm interested to hear your opinions. I have a few of my own thoughts on this, though I could be way off the mark.

Am in need of a boost and think I might be unwittingly ageing myself before my time.

Thanks.

Being too thin, not a good look as you age.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 02/01/2021 22:47

Leopard or animal prints you’ll look like Peggy Mitchell
Too much make up
That eyebrow microblade colouring thing, it looks fake and cheap.nasty
Fleeces
Parkas with elasticated waists

Happymum12345 · 02/01/2021 22:48

I agree with grey hair.

Sickofthiscrapp · 02/01/2021 22:49

Love this thread.

hopeishere · 02/01/2021 22:50

Frosted lipstick
Frosted eye shadow
Body con dresses

Spied · 02/01/2021 22:50

A year ago I went for a spray tan and I swear I came out looking ten years older.
I've also experimented with fake tans/drops at home and it really makes my face look old and dated.
A neat bun in my hair also makes me look old. It needs to be organically scruffy for the modern look.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 02/01/2021 22:52

I don't agree with grey hair, mine is now white and it rocks! People always ask me where I get it coloured but it's natural. I look younger than I did with flat, black, overprocessed hair.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 02/01/2021 22:52

Nude lipstick, think Claudia winkleman, you’ll look like a cadaver

Matchy match shoes & bag. Just no

hopeishere · 02/01/2021 22:52

And yes - flat no tone hair. I've a lovely friend who dyes hers brown and it is so ageing. It's funny as she has a sister with gorgeous white hair who thinks has "let herself go" whereas she looks 100 times more stylish!!

Melange99 · 02/01/2021 22:55

A tan, fake or natural, makes me look older these days (facially). I looked great with a tan years ago.

Heels just look dated these days.
Frosted lipstick.
Thin drawn on eyebrows.
Dark lipliner, particularly if used to make the lips look bigger.

OverByYer · 02/01/2021 22:56

Not updating hair cut/ colour / make up.

FlamedToACrisp · 02/01/2021 22:57

Following because I'd like to know if others agree with PP who said no long hair after 50!

OverByYer · 02/01/2021 22:57

I have just had a fringe cut into my choppy Bob though so what do I know?

IfTheSockFits · 02/01/2021 22:58

Clarkson jeans, especially when worn with a leather jacket Grin

Tan brogues and navy court shoes.

Hell no, long all the way!
Suzeyshoes · 02/01/2021 23:02

Blue eyeshadow
Bootcut jeans
Short hair
Overplucked eyebrows
Agree with grey hair too

I also think women stop wearing colour as they get older and tend to go for neutrals. A big shot of colour worn tastefully can drop years off your age.

SweetMeadow · 02/01/2021 23:02

Sadly, embracing the grey/white hair at the beginning of lockdown in the hope that I could use the time to discreetly go a lighter brown (I’m 36). The lighter brown just aged me and when I coloured it back to dark brown, people were full of compliments, I think without realising what the change was. It so depends on your complexion I think. Also agree with the matt foundation and fleeces.

MuthaFunka61 · 02/01/2021 23:03

I've just turned 60 and still have dreads and I've no intention of changing my style either, simplicity all the way!

I was considering microblading my eyebrows though as mine are so fair it looks like I've shaved them off Grin

frumpety · 02/01/2021 23:03

Sun damage, when your skin ends up looking like something Drew Pritchard would salivate over, if you were a sofa or club chair.

Tattoo's, you can generally age someone by the style of tattoo.

Bad feet, dry skin and yellow thickened toe nails

Teeth, same as any animal.

Newyearsameme2021 · 02/01/2021 23:04

Please can someone post a pic of ‘Mum boots’ 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

I thought a fringe made you look more youthful..covers the lines? I was considering getting one, haven’t had since primary school

CeliaCanth · 02/01/2021 23:04

Mahogany bobs
Three quarter length baggy linen trousers with a drawstring waist, especially in white
Walking sandals
Dyed black, straightened hair
Court shoes with block heels
Obvious face powder

Ginfordinner · 02/01/2021 23:05

A waterproof coat worn anywhere except on outdoor sports/activities.

I live in a rainy part of the country. I always wear a waterproof coat when it rains regardless of where I am. I hate umbrellas.

YummyBelicious · 02/01/2021 23:09

I think if you're a glasses wearer then it's really aging if you don't even slightly follow trends there. A modern pair on some people I know would completely change the way they look and feel.

Ginfordinner · 02/01/2021 23:13

I can't follow trends in glasses as I have a small head, and very few styles fit me.

ShrikeAttack · 02/01/2021 23:19

Attitude!

And posture. A confident woman, who's happy in her skin and moves as though she owns the space she inhabits will always look great. Anything alse is just window-dressing really. I can think of women I know that wear all of the above and look amazing and vibrant.
