Whether that be clothing or cosmetics, I'm interested to hear your opinions. I have a few of my own thoughts on this, though I could be way off the mark.

Am in need of a boost and think I might be unwittingly ageing myself before my time.

Thanks.

A lot of people seem to have interpreted the question as 'what do you think women 10/20/30 years older than you wear?' And often with a disdainful attitude. Quite a depressing read.

garlictwist · 03/01/2021 06:46

I think hair straighteners are a very millennial look. The younger generation never straighten their hair. I work at a university and have never seen a young woman with straightened hair.

balzamico · 03/01/2021 06:49

Over straightened hair, it literally pulls the features down I think

grannycake · 03/01/2021 06:51

Hideous thread. Think about the alternative to ageing and be glad that you are

isthismylifenow · 03/01/2021 06:53

I am thinking thay most of the posters on this thread are in their 20s/30s.

By the time you get into your 50's you don't really give a flying fuck what other people think.

That's one huge benefit of aging.

yesterdayisgone · 03/01/2021 07:09

Blorange hair . That nasty brown shade that glows an unnaturally brassy shade in daylight . Often acheived by trying to cover a lot of grey hair
Full head highlights , a root stretch is a more modern look
and Over processed straightened hair .

Fleece seems to be universally hated on this thread.

As an unapologetic (youthful!) fleece wearer, I think it can look good. Certainly it's casual and practical rather than smart, but I don't think that's necessarily ageing. I spend all of my time chasing toddlers through mud and having them wipe dirty faces and hands on me, so anything that needs hand washing has been relegated to the back of the wardrobe.

Anyway, at least I'm warm and comfortable whilst I'm being judged Grin

I’m an old bitch and another unapologetic fleece wearer I love fleece on a cold day, but as @grannycake and @isthismylifenow says, I’m grateful to seize the day wearing fleece and don’t give a toss what yoousse judgey youthful peoples thinks.

midsummabreak · 03/01/2021 07:38

Love your fleece loving attitude @JofraArchersFastestBall Hope you bravely fight for fleece wearing rights into your 90’s. Ha!

Twilightstarbright · 03/01/2021 07:50

Don't all boots have moulded soles?

In terms of ageing, I'm mid 30s with a young child. Apart from the young children, what ages my friends and I are:

Shapeless clothes
Colours which don't suit
Very matte foundation

It's a fine line between ageing and unkempt with some of these, pride in your appearance always makes you look good.

I live in fleeces and raincoats but my fleece is in a colour which suits me, is a more tailored one and the correct size. Cross body bag all the way too, currently a Mulberry Amberley. I need both hands free to toddler wrangle!

LobotheBotanist · 03/01/2021 07:57

I love this thread, I find the unreasonable ones so entertaining Grin

My favourite was how ageing it looks to “Be in your 40s with older teenager kids” well, that’s me out then 😂 I’ll tell my boys to stay away from me as it’s ageing 😁

Ticklytoes · 03/01/2021 08:04

Personally I love a cross body bag for day to day. I have a lovely vintage one. I’d loose a bag if it wasn’t attached to me, especially in a supermarket, where I abandon my trolley a lot.

I’m 45 and recently thought shit I look like my mum. Its the mum tum/ lack of waist that ages me most I think. Square shaped clothes are very ageing on me.
Excessive make up looks bad on me. Definitely too dark hair dye, my skin can’t take it anymore.

I think most people have commented on frumpy things, because there’s a tendency to let oneself go a bit. That manifests in comfy, shapeless clothes, practically and a reluctance to spend hours on beauty regimes, coordinating outfits etc. Life gets too busy.

Frequentflier · 03/01/2021 08:05

Lol. I too am in my 40s with older teen kids. This thread is bonkers. I commit all the style crimes on here. I was contemplating a cross body bag because I need my hands free some time, and now I am even keener!

sallievp · 03/01/2021 08:10

The teenage children / age 40s one is so funny !! I'm 41 with a 4 year old so I must look super young and youthful!! 😂👍

Frenchdressing · 03/01/2021 08:18

Yet another nasty, ageist thread.

ConorMasonsWife · 03/01/2021 08:23

I'm 27 with a Bob 😅 my mum is 54, she wears what he likes and looks good so I hope I feel the same at her age and actually I hope I feel the same at 90!

thedevilinablackdress · 03/01/2021 08:24

This thread is hilarious. Last time I was in Urban Outfitters, just over a year ago, it was full of fleeces, cross body bags, and bootcut jeans.
I also wish we were less scared of ageing.

trixiebelden77 · 03/01/2021 08:30

I think more posture and strength.

Exercising and keeping strong make you look much younger.

hopewardrobe · 03/01/2021 08:31

Bloody hell! I'm 44 with children aged 20, 17 and 14! I'm staying well away from those youth sapping little buggers! Smile

bornatXmastobequiet · 03/01/2021 08:32

Removing my face mask.

Bluesheep8 · 03/01/2021 08:32

Hair that is dyed too dark a shade. My auntie does this. She has very dark brown/black hair in her youth and dyes it black still at 73

This always confuses me. People always say that very dark hair is ageing. I'm 47 with very fair skin and my hair is naturally almost black with no grey at all. My grandparents both had this colouring too and were well into their 70s. Can someone's natural colour be ageing?

jendifer · 03/01/2021 08:35

I think there’s some tights which are aging. I’m thinking of 10/15 denier black tights which look grey when worn. They always look a big baggy.

thedevilinablackdress · 03/01/2021 08:38

Probably not @Bluesheep8 as your natural colour is a) your natural colour and b) have subtle tones and hi/low lights. Dyed dark hair can be a bit Lego and that's what people are referring to.

happinessischocolate · 03/01/2021 08:41

Your skin tone matches your natural hair colour, if you have dark hair and you start to go grey, your skin tone changes, if you're still naturally dark your skin tone won't have changed.

You can even tell with men who have dyed their hair too dark, it just contrast against their skin too much. However a guy I work with is 65 and looks about 55, I'm guessing he must dye his hair but because it's a boring mid brown colour it looks natural.

SallyTimms · 03/01/2021 08:42

Bobs
Pixie cuts
Fringes

So what are we supposed tto have our hair like?? Hmm

What a load of shite this thread is. Look how you want, now how some random is going to judge you. What's wrong with looking old. People do age, it is normal.
