TOAST

Now I never thought I'd say this, not until my mid 40's at least, but I feel like celebrating the wonders of TOAST! I'm not sure I'm game for the wintry stuff but their summer dresses are just perfect. For years I've longed for the undone, easy linen look but usually end up looking like a sack of potatoes... not this summer my friends!

My dad earlier said I looked "outrageously well sorted" in my new orange linen number - I think he meant well put together, and I've just got the navy on sale on JL. Yipppeeeee!

Their dresses aren't really my thing but the trousers are fantastic - they fit me perfectly, really cool but wearable vibe and great fabrics so they hang beautifully and wash well. I'd rather have one pair from Toast than 4 or 5 cheaper pairs. The T shirts are also the best I've seen on the high street. I love how they use colour too. Their current sale is the first time I've been tempted to shop in months.

PersonaNonGarter · 31/05/2020 14:48

The trousers are not unusually short. They are just more of a fashionable length than most of the reviewers would otherwise come in contact with.

GreenGreenGrassofSloane · 31/05/2020 15:46

I don’t agree - trousers are shorter on me than they are their models - I’m only 5ft 8

Countmeout · 31/05/2020 20:38

I have three pairs of trousers, one bought from toast direct and another 2 eBay purchases. The ones bought direct are short ( and I am only 5’4”) but I think that’s the way they’re meant to be, one eBay pair are short, but I think the seller might have washed them wrongly, and the silk linen ones were too long and I had them shortened. Not sure what conclusions can be drawn from that.

slipperyeel · 31/05/2020 21:02

I love their linen T-shirt’s, they wash so well and just look good. Have an amazing leather bag from there too.

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 31/05/2020 21:05

I'm short and dumpy and I love Toast! Especially their trousers and jumpsuits. And all the fabrics are such good quality - it's pretty much the only high street shop I will buy from.

PersonaNonGarter · 31/05/2020 21:23

They are short because that is fashionable.

GreenGreenGrassofSloane · 31/05/2020 21:42

@PersonaNonGarter Not sure Toast has ever been about fashionable, that's part pf their appeal - but if you do fair enough.

PersonaNonGarter · 31/05/2020 21:53

This is what I mean about Per Una-ing Toast. Yes, they are about fashion. That’s why they are offering jumpsuits now when they didn’t three years ago. Or why they add ochres or bottle greens or whatever. They are fashion by the back door for most of their clients who then get on the reviews with prissy comments about how the skirt is too full or whatever.

I really pray Toast designers don’t let their client base drag them to middle of the road, middle age, mediocrity - but with heavy linen.

simplificate · 31/05/2020 23:18

I am generally a fan but also find their things short. And not in a FASHUNS way. Trousers cut to be 7/8ths fit more like 3/4 length, midis hit a bit higher than midcalf, 3/4 sleeves more elbowy. Like some PP I'd always assumed I was just taller than their block (5'8" size 6/8 in Toast) maybe due to being a bit younger than their assumed average customer?

GreenGreenGrassofSloane · 01/06/2020 07:13

Are jumpsuits still a thing - I have never even tried one on before - the whole toileting thing just seemed too difficult in a dodgy pub after a few glasses.

Floisme · 01/06/2020 08:27

I'm going to hazard a guess that Toast customers are familiar with the concept of shorter trousers. It is perfectly possible for cropped trousers to be too short if, say you wanted top of the ankle and they turn out to be mid calf, that couple of centimetres makes a real difference, and when you're paying those kinds of prices of course you're going to want them absolutely right. Doesn't happen to me but then I'm 5'3.

Listening to your custom base seems a pretty sensible idea to me. Toast could, for example offer a choice of lengths - there are cheaper retailers that manage that.

mizu · 01/06/2020 09:03

Love, love TOAST. 47 here and been shopping for TOAST items for about 7 years. eBay or sale mainly, jumpers and dresses although I have got a pair of their Alix trousers too - oh and 2 beautiful bags. Some of it for sure is not me but I generally love their denim dresses and I've got a couple of their culpro silky dresses from last season which feel lovely to wear. Their older cotton tea dresses are great too.

goldpendant · 01/06/2020 09:28

Oh I hadn't even thought of trying eBay for some steals!

Toast is not really that cheap on eBay - there's a lot of bidding on it - it's one of those brands, like Hush and Joseph, that people stalk on there. I think because the fabric and cut is reliable so there's less risk.

Winser is often crazy cheap on eBay for workwear, I notice. I've had some amazing deals on there - £5 for a £300 dress that was still on the website.

Musicforsmorks · 01/06/2020 11:10

In terms of undone linen, I’m more white company these days then toast.
At Least the clothes don’t totally drown me.

GreenGreenGrassofSloane · 01/06/2020 11:10

Thanks for the tip @lojoko I have a few Toast things I no longer wear, sounds like ebay is the way to go!

lojoko · 01/06/2020 11:18

Oh yes, if you list it, they will bid! Go for it!

JemIsMyNameNooneElseIsTheSame · 01/06/2020 11:32

Reading the reviews on Toast is one of my favourite past times Grin

yesbutnobut · 01/06/2020 12:33

@EraOfTheGame - thank you for the code, have just used it Smile

Almahart · 01/06/2020 13:46

Love a Toast thread.

I have a high miss rate with them but all my very favourite clothes are from Toast. They used to have the most amazing online archive sales.

I've just bought this - not entirely sure - what do you all think? I'm late forties and a large 12

Almahart · 01/06/2020 13:48

Second the poster who says there is a roaring trade on eBay. I buy and sell loads of Toast there. They do the same cuts year after year so it's a pretty safe bet.

GreenGreenGrassofSloane · 01/06/2020 14:03

@Almahart If I said Andy Pandy - would that show my age!😂

Almahart · 01/06/2020 14:45

Hmmm, no, I am of same vintage

Anyone think otherwise it should it go back?!

Almahart · 01/06/2020 14:48

or should it go back
