Now I never thought I'd say this, not until my mid 40's at least, but I feel like celebrating the wonders of TOAST! I'm not sure I'm game for the wintry stuff but their summer dresses are just perfect. For years I've longed for the undone, easy linen look but usually end up looking like a sack of potatoes... not this summer my friends!

My dad earlier said I looked "outrageously well sorted" in my new orange linen number - I think he meant well put together, and I've just got the navy on sale on JL. Yipppeeeee!

@AmethystMoonShine
Thank you! That sounds promising on both counts!

BikeRunSki · 04/06/2020 07:05

DH calls its “Edwardian Lesbian Chic”, but very much tongue in cheek.

Floisme · 04/06/2020 08:18

As a company, I think Toast thoroughly deserves the quips and the stale jokes. They're owned by a Danish corporate brand and yet, to look at their catalogue, you'd be forgiven for thinking it was all still made by hand from a farmhouse in Wales. I let them off because of the clothes, and because there's so much more to them than baggy dresses. I always go straight to the trousers and the coats which have a different vibe entirely I think.

Almahart · 04/06/2020 08:32

I agree, I think as a company it is utterly ridiculous.

Did anyone else get an invitation to an intimate online evening dinner, where a fancy takeaway could be delivered by bike if you lived in London.

God knows who goes for these things.

However - I persist as the odd thing I love I love more than anything else I my wardrobe.

I do also really like community clothing. I have a denim top from there that is unbelievably well cut.

Btw the AndyPandy suit is going back.

ilovecherries · 04/06/2020 08:35

@ElizabethMainwaring

It's the check Ria dress that I really liked but it's sold out in 18 now Envy
The Ria is quite fitted on the bust and doesn’t have any stretch. I would have thought if you like to wear clothes bigger it would be quite form fitting.
ilovecherries · 04/06/2020 08:36

Anything dual sizing (S,M,L etc) is usually designed for a very easy fit.

Floisme · 04/06/2020 08:37

I'm a Community Clothing fan too - and they really do make their clothes in Blackburn (if not from a farmhouse). If I had a magic wand and could only use it to keep one company safe, it would be them. But I do really like Toast, I just find that faux spiritual vibe quite grating sometimes.

ElizabethMainwaring · 04/06/2020 08:42

Thank you @Ilovecherries.
In that case I'll give it a miss.
I have broad shoulders and I like things to literally hang off me!

houseforanartlover · 04/06/2020 08:55

Oooh, new Toast shopper here so thanks for this thread. Just received my first two buys, both sale items - I think I really like them! Am 5'6' and a size 12 so was worried I would feel enormous due to the more relaxed Toast shapes but I think they look ok on me. Went for this jumper and skirt. Am a bit shocked to hear about them not paying return postage though so thanks for the heads up! Off to look for hidden sales items now...

"Andy Pandy going back" Grin

The best things I have had over the years from TOAST are the denim dresses that i wear to work every autumn / winter. I have 3 that I rotate that I wear with long sleeved tops underneath. Love clothes that you can put on and feel great - and not have to think about. Being a teacher haring around all day I need to wear things that are comfortable.

Also, the fisherman gansey jumper is a winner too.

I'm now looking at those smocks................

Countmeout · 04/06/2020 09:32

I think you probably need a small chest for smocks so not for me. I think the trick with Toast is getting the fit right otherwise it could wear you instead of you wearing it. It takes a bit of experimentation with shapes And the colours (online almost never gives an idea of the colour, generally I find then more muted) to light on the ones that work for you which is. Why it is so tricky not being near any shops.
Like your purchases @houseforanartlover

These are lovely. Enjoy them.

Second the denim dresses as a good buy, they are def winter weight for me, and I tend to wear a slim fitting long sleeve t underneath.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 04/06/2020 09:44

It’s all very hit and miss with Toast. I always end up ordering lots, multiple sizes and sending half the order back.

GazeboParty · 04/06/2020 09:51

I love the cross back linen aprons - they are really beautiful. I have some lovely coats from the sale - dd calls them my granny coats but the odd difference is what I appreciate - they sit on the edge of trends but not in a diluted dull sense. I'm not after figure hugging sexy clothing - just clothes that feel good when I wear them. I very much look forward to each new release of Toast clothing - just to find that one item that I love.

BikeRunSki · 04/06/2020 10:04

@mizu I have a teacher friend who wears Toast denim dresses the same way, for the same reasons. Unless you are my teacher friend.Grin

sansou · 04/06/2020 11:05

I’ve succumbed to the green merino jumper. It’s a keeper. S is roomy for a 12/14 but it’s a jumper so I don’t mind that.

sansou · 04/06/2020 11:08

I’ve always bought in the sale. My most gorgeous buy was a sage green duffle coat about 12 yrs ago. I restrain myself nowadays to a piece of sale knitwear every year.

mizu · 04/06/2020 11:11

@BikeRunSki ooh I might be that person Grin clue I don't teach in a school......

BikeRunSki · 04/06/2020 11:29

@mizu - not her then Smile

ilovecherries · 04/06/2020 13:59

So Toastie Afficiandos, can I ask your opinions. This is a 12, (my usual size) it would be too tight across the shoulders in a 10, although it’s a bit voluminous around the I’m just a smidge over 5’7. It’s from the secret sale.

ilovecherries · 04/06/2020 14:04

Keep or WTF are you thinking?

GazeboParty · 04/06/2020 14:40

@Ilovecherries I think it looks like it should be slightly less volume around the waist - like it's a bit too big - could you get it altered? I love the fabric!

Alsohuman · 04/06/2020 15:02

Keep it. Perfect for silly hot days when you don’t want fabric clinging to you.

peachypetite · 04/06/2020 15:26

Would look better with a belt to pull it in at the waist.
