M&S Beauty Advent Calendar 2019

Writersblock2 · 21/09/2019 15:53

Starting a thread to discuss the contents as we hit December.

Who is getting this one this year?

This was my very first beauty calendar last year and it’s definitely got me addicted. I loved it!

This year you can order the calendar from 31st October. Price is £40 when you spend £25 at M&S. Contents are worth over £300.

If you do want to know the full contents you can find them over at ReallyRee (SPOLIERS!).

Please don’t discuss the contents ahead of time on here as most people don’t want to know (or as in my case, read then forget!).

Merry Christmas everyone Xmas Smile
Today's cream looks good and I'm looking forward to trying it.
Overall I've really enjoyed this year's calendar and following this thread has been fun too.

Costacoffeeplease · 25/12/2019 10:42

I use this regularly, so very happy today😄

Writersblock2 · 25/12/2019 11:15

Happy Christmas! Hope you are all having an amazing day!

Loved the packaging on today’s and can’t wait to use it.

Thanks for making December so much fun, all! 🥰

I used the Pur cream today (I am away and brought a few minis items from the calendar to travel with) and I thought it smelled familiar. It smells very much like the This Works moisturiser and primer, which I think we got last year... So much so that I wondered if it was a rebrand!

circleorsquare · 26/12/2019 06:38

This was my first beauty calendar and I feel quite sad I've no more doors to open!

I've loved most of it. A bit disappointed there's no conditioner to go with the shampoo or eyeshadow to go with the brush but overall I'm glad I got it and I've liked trying new things!

bunny27 · 26/12/2019 07:54

I have loved my M & S beauty calendar. Just wondering what everyone does with the box/packaging now. Do you throw it or keep it ? I'm in two minds.

Scarydinosaurs · 26/12/2019 08:13

This cream smells amazing!

So far my most used items have been the aveda hair cream, the lip balm, and the multi-correction cream (the tiny tube).

I’ve had all things I really want to try so thrilled with the whole thing. I’ll definitely do it again!

Bansku19 · 26/12/2019 08:49

I think I will buy the eye kohl again. It's nice and easy to apply.

Mindgone · 26/12/2019 08:55

Another first time beauty advent calendar girl here too. I’ve enjoyed it and you all so much, thank you! 😊🎅🏼🎄☃️
See you next year! 😉

circleorsquare · 26/12/2019 11:22

@Bansku19 yes the pencil has made me realise that spending a bit more on an eye pencil does make a difference!! I love how it goes on

SillyUnMurphy · 26/12/2019 11:26

The ‘stars’ for me were definitely the eyeliner - which I’ve used most days and is beautiful to apply. The Nuxe multi correctional cream, the Aveda hair stuff and the lip balm. I haven’t tried everything yet though. All in all a brilliant calendar this year. Thanks for this thread ladies

Teabeautyandturning40 · 26/12/2019 11:33

I have really enjoyed the calendar this year, and have decided I will buy it again next year. The Prai cream is really nice and I'm loving the sparkly lid! For me my favourite items have been the Aveda hair treatment, the targeted eye and lip cream and the Ren night cream. So with the 20% off voucher I'm going to use it towards a full size Ren night cream. I really liked the Filorga (whatever its called) but I really cant justify that amount on money on cream!
I hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas!! Xmas Smile

NorthernLightsInWinter · 26/12/2019 11:56

I still think it was quite odd to get an eyeshadow applier ... and no eyeshadows to try. And shampoo ... but not conditioner. It's really not well thought out; hardly difficult to put a couple of paired items in those boxes so they make sense. And the lipstick this year was dreadful, colour and way it looks on the lips even disregarding the fact that it's not my colour at all.

So there were some spectacular failures in the box this year, imo.

The Aveda hair product is my favourite from the box, but did like the Christmas cream as well. And am enjoying the REN night cream.

ajandjjmum · 26/12/2019 14:38

I loved my box last year (my first), and on the whole have enjoyed this year, but there are not many 'stand out' items to me. Just a blur of tubes of different skin treatments.

Day 1 hair product great - Shampoo ok - REN cream good - eye pencil excellent. Also the pillow spray was a good size this year. But although I shall probably use some of the products, few excited me.

Have the JL calendar for Jadvent - hopefully that will be better.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 26/12/2019 14:39

Something or a combination of things has made my skin react. I think it was the Maude exfoliating cleanser. My skin is very sore and rashy. I’m having a break from skincare and make up (hope no one comes to the door) today. In a bid to calm my inflamed skin.

ReeRi · 26/12/2019 15:43

I really enjoyed the calendar. I do think that conditioner should have been in there with shampoo, even if in a separate box. I would have liked an eyeshadow but don’t mind there being a brush and no shadow. However, I have lots of make up and some buying the calendar might not so it would make sense to have it. Or they could have given a powder brush to go with the powder or something like that. There was a lot of similarity with last year and I think those of us who might buy the calendar would probably benefit from more variety.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/12/2019 15:58

Dobby I've had a Murad exfoliant in the past and it made my face really sensitive .
Very few things react with my skin so I was able to find the culprit quickly !

PrincessWatermelon · 26/12/2019 16:29

I've loved the shampoo and would be tempted to buy more. The wonder balm hair thing is excellent as well. Both have really suited my curly hair.

Haven't yet tried everything but have thoroughly enjoyed opening it everyday. I do love having little tubes of special things.

I have Birchbox for Jadvent. Anyone else? Itd be nice to have a thread if so.

Butterymuffin · 26/12/2019 16:33

@PrincessWatermelon I also have Birchbox for
Jadvent! We should make a thread come the 1st. Could be a combined one for anyone doing Jadvent.

Nottobesniffedat · 26/12/2019 16:35

Was surprised to find a 20% M&S gift voucher also in the box of the 25th, only found it because I was going to break the box up for recycling and it was curled around inside, so don't accidentally throw it away. Merry Christmas all xx

PrincessWatermelon · 26/12/2019 16:38

Birchbox Jadvent thread http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/styleandd_beauty/3777873-birchbox-jadvent-thread

I've taken the liberty of starting a thread in readiness. Will pop it here for those that want it.

BackOnceAgainWithATinselHalo · 26/12/2019 16:41

I have tried the eyeliner on my hand and concluded I won’t use it so if anyone wants a swap let me know.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 26/12/2019 16:55

@70isaLimitNotaTarget I think you are right, my skin is pretty tough normally so I think it’s the acids. My skin doesn’t like them.

Red, stinging and bumpy rash. Came up after the exfoliating thing.

Disillusioneddaisy · 26/12/2019 16:56

Loved the calendar. Was excited to open it everyday. One criticism is that it got a little samey. I would have liked to have had a few more make up products rather than so many correcting creams. My favourite product was probably the first one - the hair product.

snowplop · 27/12/2019 09:24

The best items for me are the Aveda, Nuxe, Prai, Ren, the eyeshadow brush and the sparkly Pur powder. The lowlights are definitely the awful lipstick, the Percy and Reed hair treatment (hate the smell) and the black eyeliner. Last year's Stila bronzey coloured one was much more exciting. It's been lovely opening doors and reading the thread though so I'll probably do it again next year. I wish I had a Jadvent calendar now!
