M&S Beauty Advent Calendar 2019

Writersblock2 · 21/09/2019 15:53

Starting a thread to discuss the contents as we hit December.

Who is getting this one this year?

This was my very first beauty calendar last year and it’s definitely got me addicted. I loved it!

This year you can order the calendar from 31st October. Price is £40 when you spend £25 at M&S. Contents are worth over £300.

If you do want to know the full contents you can find them over at ReallyRee (SPOLIERS!).

Please don’t discuss the contents ahead of time on here as most people don’t want to know (or as in my case, read then forget!).

I got Beso which is much brighter than anything I'd normally wear - I'm a very boring neutrals person. But I put it on and it didn't look horrific, so I'm did what any sane person NEVER does asked my husband's opinion: do I feel uncomfortable because it's fundamentally wrong for me, or is it just because I'm not used to wearing red?

His answer? "It doesn't suit your outfit but it does suit your face".

Took his advice, swapped blue top for black and it only bloody worked! Am now out in public in said scary lippy Blush

DobbyTheHouseElk · 21/12/2019 12:20

@MercianQueen good for you! I’m dark haired with olive skin so it should have worked for me, but it was far too blue. I do love the colour though.

Tinseltrauma · 21/12/2019 12:28

Does anybody know if the wonder balm is to be used instead of normal conditioner like the Aveda from day one? I've used it today like that and my hair feels coarse and has frizzed like nobody's business! Wondered if I'm using it wrong?

Peachypips78 · 21/12/2019 12:38

I have Dolce and it's lovely. Warm nude with sparkly bits.

Costacoffeeplease · 21/12/2019 12:43

I use the wonder balm after shampoo and conditioner- it’s a leave in styling product

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 21/12/2019 13:07

I have Dolce and I really like it! Strange texture...doesn't feel like you have anything on your lips but it's not at all drying. It doesn't last but lipstick never does on me. Overall, I am very pleased with it! Happy I didn't get the red one, I can't wear red.

I am also really loving the hair balm which is a big surprise as my hair is fussy! I am using it on dry hair, to smooth our frizzy bits and it's working a treat. I used to love Frizz Ease Super Agent creme but stopped as it's not CG friendly. This is an excellent substitute and I will probably re-buy.

This has been my first beauty calendar and I've loved it. I've always kept small bottles from beauty boxes for travel in the past, but this time they're all in the bathroom for immediate use. The only things not great for me have been the aveda (will give to dd1 when she's home from uni later, the nail polish (ditto, but in her stocking) and today's lip colour. I had dolce which is awful on me. I could swap it for the red, but dd2 has already swiped it, so it's all good. I did get the anti aging creams from her l'occitane one, so we're more than even I'd say Grin

Costacoffeeplease · 21/12/2019 13:14

I’ve got dolce, nice shade, similar to what I normally wear

Anjelika · 21/12/2019 14:21

I've got caramello. Made the mistake of thinking it was a lip gloss so put it straight on my lips. Has I known it wasn't, I'd have tried to swap. It feels very drying and looks very ageing. I will try it over a lip balm as think that's the only way it will work for me. Not sure about the calendar this year. Have had a 2 year break and not sure I'll bother next year. The tiny hand cream made me laugh. I could finish that in one day.

ReeRi · 21/12/2019 14:47

I use he Aveda or the Percy & Reed one aches shampoo and conditioner on wet or towel dried hair

AndAnon · 21/12/2019 14:59

Just to bump again I’m happy to swap two for one to get the red Beso one from today!

Two of Stilla Dolce, Stilla Perla (last years colour) or Petra by Pixi (last years gloss).

Bansku19 · 21/12/2019 15:41

I got caramello. We went to Lapland so opened mine already on Thursday. I thought it was a lipgloss. I applied it but I didn't have a look on mirror. I need to try it again when we are back.
I don't really use make brushes but it is good to have one I guess.

ReeRi · 21/12/2019 16:14

@AndAnon Is it Petra by Pixi lipgloss you’ve got? Is it a dark nude colour?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/12/2019 17:04

I have been following this thread (I do every year Grin ) but I don't buy a Beauty Advent myself.

But from this years thread , I've bought the Aveda Hair Repair (I use Shampure and have a 1 litre bottle in the bathroom)

Last year I bought the Face Footner ( Formula Radiance Reveal Peel) after all the reviews .

....... slopes off

rookiemere · 21/12/2019 17:20

I got in trouble from my hairdresser for using the Aveda hair product. It looks quite nice when it's just been blow dryed but makes it oily and lank really quickly. I'd come in the day after using and he commented on my greasy looking hair and suggested that the product wasn't meant for me ShockBlush.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 21/12/2019 17:22

The aveda made my hair really lank and greasy too.

Writersblock2 · 21/12/2019 17:26

I got Beso and I’m delighted. Love a red lip!

MirandaWest · 21/12/2019 17:32

I’ve found the Aveda hair product made my hair lank too - quite glad it’s not just me!

CointreauVersial · 21/12/2019 17:32

The Aveda stuff is fabulous on my greying hair, which is drier than the Sahara usually.

NorthernLightsInWinter · 21/12/2019 17:33

I got Carmello and it is frankly hideous ... awful colour and very aging on the lips.

PrincessWatermelon · 21/12/2019 17:59

I also got Carmello and it doesn't look like a great colour for me. I haven't opened it based on people's reactions. Might actually have something for the swop thread, although it doesn't sound like anyone esp keen!!!

ReeRi · 21/12/2019 18:03

Everyone’s hair is different but the instructions do say to use only a small amount of the Aveda product. Could you be using too much? I’ve got curly hair so need the treatment and but quite a bit on but only on the ends

Butterymuffin · 21/12/2019 18:05

I have oily hair but just use the Aveda on the last couple of inches and it's been great. Hair is so soft.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 21/12/2019 18:32

I used a teeny blob. But my hairdresser used morrocan oil once and had to rewatch my hair

AndAnon · 21/12/2019 19:21

@ReeRi it is Petra by Pixi but it’s not dark, it’s from last years M&S advent calendar and is more of a golden neural - it is Honeysheen this one www.selfridges.com/GB/en/cat/pixi-liplift-max-2-7g_475-3006247-10051/?previewAttribute=Honey+sheen&cm_mmc=PLA--Google--BEAUTY-_-PIXI&POR=Y&gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=Cj0KCQiAovfvBRCRARIsADEmbRKmrlQaOHxhqkGMQk84ApGJ4RmkMI7L97MBnYW4GJMKj_LUi8oCrhEaAhCSEALw_wcB
