Hello! This is week four of the SIXTH boot camp of 2007 everyone is welcome.

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun

Anyone who feels like it, post how you've been feeling since doing this and why you want to keep doing it. Add what you want to achieve at the end of it too if you want to.

Cheers m'dears.

batters - just go to the lido and get in the water PDQ

swedishmum · 25/07/2007 21:54

Off topic but urgent for me. I know how great you lot are so I've cut and pasted. Please any ideas....
Please help. Mum died 18 months ago after 10 years of illness. Dad has a lovely partner who lives in France (they've known each other years) - she's 81, he's 79. She just phoned me - he's written saying he's met someone else and not to contact her again. She's booked herself on Eurostar to arrive on his doorstep tomorrow for answers. I think I've met his new "woman" - from his church, don't get me started. Feigned ignorance to lovely French lady. Now need to phone dad as he doesn't know she's arriving.... HELP PLEASE!! Have no relatives for adviceXX

iota · 25/07/2007 21:56

my advice would be don't phone your dad - keep well away and let them sort it out

swedishmum · 25/07/2007 22:02

But then she'll turn up at my house(panic emoticon)...

swedishmum · 25/07/2007 22:02

iota · 25/07/2007 22:05

well I guess that you will be the shoulder to cry on, good thing you like her

swedishmum · 25/07/2007 22:15

I just phoned him up - no apologies for large rioja beforehand - and told him you can't dump someone in a letter. Felt like I was talking to dd1! At least he's meeting her from the station tomorrow and will talk to her face to face. And I thought teenage kids were embarrassing....

TheDuchessOfNorks · 25/07/2007 22:25

Quick hello before I do the ironing.

Have finally started running properly again after my horrid lingering cold. Ran 5k on Sunday including lots of hills AND it was hot. But I drank at least 3 litres of water during the day . Tuesday I went running on the forest, it was really hard work - did about 30 minutes but not many miles. Will hopefully get out for a run tomorrow as well. My legs actually feel longer for all this hard work and my bottom is much higher too

Have been eating v. healthily, including lots of veg from the garden, the new potatoes are something else but I 'fess up to overuse of butter on them.

Swedishmum I don't think there is much you can do. She probably does need to see your dad face-to-face - and then she might need some kind words & tea from you before she goes home. Poor thing! A friend of my mothers was jilted last year, she was devastated. She's 84.

swedishmum · 25/07/2007 22:30

Would like a pass to say it'sOK to drink alcohol when relatives give you stress please. OLd people, grrrrrr.
Thanks for the comments. You'd think they'd grow up at some point!
On a happier note, I love my Liz Earle products. Is QVC or her website the better place to buy them??

winnie · 25/07/2007 22:58

I know I should be in bed but have been talking to my date on the phone Tomorrow night is off unless I do something drastic but we have rescheduled which just gives me more time to worry about it What am I going to wear? We both have childcare issues lol. Finding love in your late 30's isn't easy

I have had 4 vodkas tonight too. BIG row with dd... why is my life so bloody complicated? Don't answer that, it was rhetorical!

Swedishmum, I think you've done all you can. You've spoken to your dad and you've been sympathetic and approachable for his x. I know it doesn't help but your post gave me some hope. I feel past it at 37. I did smile at your comment about thinking teenagers are embarrassing I hope I am embarrassing my children in my 80's
I hop eit gets resolved and you can feel comfortable with it.

As for the bootcamp... I detoxed all day & then ruined it by having 4 vodkas. X told me he had made a mistake in dumping me (again) and dd and I having taken one step forward took and enormous step back.

Duchess, oh to have a bottom that is much higher

WideWebWitch · 26/07/2007 06:52

Oh winnie, sorry about dd going backwards again and I don't blame you for 4 vodkas. At least you've rescheduled it. DON'T listen to x dh (well, imo anyway) hasn't he done this before?

Swedishmum, I think you've done what you can, sympathy. Poor woman.

Iota, oi!

Isn't Prufrock on her amazing holiday?

Batters, I'd be too scared to go too so don't listen to me. I haven't been in a swimming pool since 1998.

Resisted wine last night and yes, my tolerance will be rubbish, one sniff of the barmaid's apron I suspect.

Have a good day everyone.

www, thanks And yes x has done this before and no I am not listening to him.

swedishmum · 26/07/2007 08:33

Thanks for input on my dad (grrr, old people!) Sorry things aren't going so well Winnie - don't feel bad about the vodkas. Much better than the red wine I knocked back last night. Your x really isn't being fair imo. You must feel much more confident at dealing with him with your fantastic weight loss.
First day of summer holiday today and I have a party to organise for Sat so I think I'll have a couple of mega-healthy days before then.

tigermoth · 26/07/2007 08:47

hi everyone, just catching up.
Batters and Winnie - you are both powering ahead here! Good luck with your date, Winnie (how exciting!).

Batters, sorry to hear about your dh and glad it wasn't any worse. It must have happened around the time ds1 was mugged. ds was in a local park 10 minutes away from home at 6.30 pm on Tuesday. It was a sunny evening so there were lots of people nearby. An 18/19 year old came up and threatened to hit him, asked to see his very new mobile phone and walked off with it. Poor ds was very shaken indeed and not surprisingly is now reluctant to go out anywhere alone around here The police have been informed, and at least the phone was insured for theft, but when I think what could have happened, I go cold.

Anyway, apart from this upset, it's been a good week so far. I am off work and enjoying being at home with ds1 and ds2. Dh has started a new job - still pest controlling but with a private company. I have managed to dodge the showers to take ds2 to the lido not once but twice, so got in some swimming. Batters, I came across some info on your local lido recently. I am very at the revamp it has had. If you go do please report back.

WWW pleased to hear the no wine for 9 days diet is working. I have come to the conclusion that wine does not agree with me if I have more than a small glass or two. Much as I love chilling out with some form of alcohol in the evening, I think wine, like spirits, is just too strong for me. I have been drinking a glass of cool lager most evenings, then I go on to drinking low calorie fruit squash. Not such a nice taste but I feel better for it. I suspect the calories in the lager are not much less than the calories in a glass of wine, though.

Does anyone else have problems with their bottles of protect and perfect? I have quite a bit of serum left at the bottom of the bottle, but the only way I can get at it is by stiking a kebab stick into the bottle and wiggling it around as the pump action top is useless at getting to the dregs.

yoyo · 26/07/2007 09:41

Tigermoth - they do the P&P in a tube now so perhaps it is a common problem. Seen it advertised not in shop. I'm back on my Weil stuff.

Stressed out with one thing and another. Exercise is fine, food is good, water is good, wine is not so good (but not alarmingly bad). Bottom is definitely higher thanks to the running (confirmed by DH when I was grumbling about all my hard work and still the same bloody dress size). Braved the pool with the DC - second the "get in as quicly as you can approach". Will be going a again today as it was actually good fun. Off to gym now although I really don't fancy it.

Winnie - sorry to hear about DD. Definitely ignore XH!!!

WWW - abstinence is definitely helping you to stick to your rules.

Batters - no way could I do swimming with skinny friend. Arrive a bit earlier than her so you get in first then say you fancy doing an extra few lengths at the end of the session and meet her in the cafe.

tigermoth, I am so sorry about ds how awful. I hope he gets his confidence back soon.

I have decided after my initial doubts that the Protect and Perfect is working am heading towards my second purchase in the near future.

Batters, damage limitation is fine if it is concentrated in a clear cut period time. It is getting to the end of those 10 days and not getting back into the bootcamp that will stop progress. All of the diets I've done in the past, had a bad day, felt like it's the end of the world and then given up. I'd be a minus size by now

Yoyo, I am sorry you are stressed out. You sound very focused exercise wise It is obviously having an impact. I hope it helps with the stress too.

I am not feeling too bad about the vodkas. 4 vodka shots on the rocks are a lot less calories than 4 glasses of wine and I got on the scales today and I am about to break through my latest goal weight. (Breaking goals down into small amounts has certainly helped.) I have a week before my date now so have a week to panic about what to wear. I am so out of the habit of clothes shopping having spent too many years wearing what is black and fits [ha ha] I seem to live in jeans and black t-shirts or have work clothes I do have a beautiful 40's style dress I could wear but I know I would feel over dressed in that. Oh decisions, decisions... I think I may have to buy a whole new outfit

bamamama · 26/07/2007 13:58

winne - sounds like a perfect excuse to go shopping .
Tigermoth, so sorry to hear what happend to ds. The rates of mugging (and Lymes disease) on this thread seem a bit worrying - perhaps I should somewhere a little less risky. I am bootcamping in name only at the moment. Doing loads of walking and haven't had a drink since Saturday but biscuits and cakes are my downfall. I'm putting it down to stress (17 days until we go and I haven't started packing yet...) So I really should go and do something contructive rather than MNing and eating Blue Ribands. Actually I've just shocked myself refering to the move in terms of days away so I really am going to go and clear a cupboard out. Byeeee

SimplySparkling · 26/07/2007 14:32

tigermoth Sorry to hear about your ds being mugged. I hope he regains his confidence for going out soon. Perhaps his friends can help by going out with him as much as possible. As for the P&P, what I do is cut off the bottom end with a scissors and put a klippit (from Lakeland Ltd or other shops) so that it keeps clean and I can get all I can from the tube.

Sorry I haven't been around for a while. We've had a new PC and it has taken a bit of time to get it all running as it should.

www Okay, I'm going to not drink wine for the rest of July. I know it's not much, but it's a date I can work to.

WideWebWitch · 26/07/2007 18:59

Simplysparkling, ok, end of July, go for it, that's next Tuesday. welcome back.

Bamammama, good luck with packing and well done on no wine. Put that Blue thing DOWN!

Winnie, new outfit called for I feel! Good attitude on the vodka, quite agree.

Batters, maybe we can motivate each other? While treating ourselves a bit? I'm off the next 10 days too. lol at barmaid's apron. I am turning into old codger, I said today "If x doesn't work you may have to get Y to take up cudgels on your behalf" and all the youngsters looked at me like I was barmy.

Yoyo, sorry about stress but at higher arse

Oh Tigermoth, I'm so sorry about your ds, poor him. Ikwym about wine but glad you're enjoying your week.
