WideWebWitch · 16/07/2007 09:27

Hello! This is week four of the SIXTH boot camp of 2007 everyone is welcome.

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun

Anyone who feels like it, post how you've been feeling since doing this and why you want to keep doing it. Add what you want to achieve at the end of it too if you want to.

Cheers m'dears.

I had some wine at lunch . And it was roast chicken . And I have capitulated from the pleas of my fellow inmates of the Inferiority Complex to make chocolate ice cream (well, DP yielded to mine to make roast chicken, in order to make sandwiches with the leftovers - about seven chicken sandwiches are now happily residing in our fridge).

I did go swimming at 8am, though. And have oh god oh god purchased a bikini online, as GGGlimpopo assures me that's what everyone in France is wearing on the beach and I reckon it's probably better to go down that route than sport a more covering-up garment that screams I AM A FOREIGNER WITH NOT A LOT OF CONFIDENCE ABOUT HER BODY.

(Babysitter was apparently very understanding. God, it's like being in Absolutely Fabulous, innit.)

WideWebWitch · 29/07/2007 20:21

Oooh, I had wine and roast chicken at lunch too, it was gorgeous. Very impressed at bikini buying, at Sobernow's low food intake and at GF's running.

Today 've eaten:

1 piece of wholemeal toast with 2 scrambled eggs and HP sauce (no butter etc)
necterine
lentil soup and 30g goats cheese
6 prunes, banana; necterine
low fat natural yogurt with 1tsp of lavender honey
7 cherry tomatoes
wholewheat spaghetti, spinach, mushroom and tomato sauce + parmasan
apple

Did toning exercises first thing and enjoyed a lovely walk including 5000 aerobic steps. Am hoping to do some yoga once ds is in bed.

Have drank lots of water; worn sunscreen; cleansed; moisturised etc Am feeling rather focused and positive tonight

Lol at MI succumbing to alcohol so soon after last night but mightily impressed with the bikini buying

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 29/07/2007 21:20

Glitterfairy - good to see you back. Will catch up on running thread tomorrow.

MI - back on the wine so soon?

t/shell - the new hens are settling in. We have 2 light sussex, 2 silver sussex (black with white necks), a little amber-star that the DCs chose and a Vorwerk cockerel, who has been named Voldemort, because it's timely and DH keeps mispronouncing the breed name. Let's hope the bloody fox doesn't get them. So nice to have hens again!

cerys · 29/07/2007 21:30

hi everyone!

Glitterfairy, I am doing a half marathon in October too. This seems a bit scary but I managed 11.25 miles this morning so I know I will do it, even if I am slow! I did have to have a little sleep this afternoon to recover, LOL. Then we went to the Sunday buffet at an Indian restaurant, to refuel on curry

Well done to those eating healthily, also buying bikinis (wow, my bikini days are long gone)and moisturising etc.

SimplySparkling · 29/07/2007 22:12

Hello to all.

Only a short post from me. Ds said yesterday that I'd ruined my "no wine until Aug 1st" promise because I had one slurp from dh's glass! Honestly. One slurp. If it had been nice I might have had a glass but I'm not really a Merlot fan so one slurp was enough. I'm going to be good and go to bed shortly, too. That'll be about 3 early to beds in a row.

I enjoyed your posts mi.

tortoiseSHELL · 29/07/2007 22:58

DoN - the hens look lovely! Are they pecking each other lots? Ours took a couple of days to settle. Lol@Voldemort!

glitterfairy · 30/07/2007 07:02

Started as I mean to go on today and have eaten porridge wiht manuka honey for breakfast and packed prawn salad with wholemeal pitta and strawberries for lunch. Feelling healthier by the minute and am determined now. Have just thrown away all sinful food!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 30/07/2007 20:33

I've been eating too many biscuits over the last few days. So no bikini for me (and gawd, not with these stretch marks!).

Have continued with my evening runs - just come back from a hard 45 mins, my shoulder, upper arm & thigh muscles really hurt so I hope I feel OK tomorrow.

t/shell - Hens all fine, not much pecking going on as they were all in together, so are used to each other. Except for Voldemort, the girls are a bit bolshy with him but I think he can look after himself

winnie · 31/07/2007 14:56

Yesterday was a terrible day for me... the worst for months. I don't like the summer holidays Today has been better, much better.

Must mention that the toning exercises that I did and thought were easy to do have had me aching like crazy yesterday and today. Serves me right! I am going to force myself to do them tonight again (if my legs can stand it lol).

cerys · 31/07/2007 15:33

Winnie, I had an awful day yesterday too. Really dreadful. Today has been much better, at least with regards to the children. I need those big screens and veils again as far as my eating and drinking is concerned!

bamamama · 31/07/2007 19:36

Hello all, have had a terrible weekend bootcamp wise (Saturday, for example, involved 2 three course meals) so have been catching up since Sunday. We've got people visiting from tomorrow so wine will be involved and lots of Farewell to Blighty things which will probably involve cake. Hope all is going well with bootcampers and hens. Don't think I'll get online again til the weekend so have a nice week!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 31/07/2007 20:49

The toning exercises sound good Winnie. Glad you had a better day ... and Cerys too. My DCs were great today but last week they were VILE!

Reading WWW food list always makes me hungry because it all sounds so good! I'm going to have to skip reading it in future

You have a good week too bamamama!

tigermoth · 01/08/2007 10:22

hi everyone. I am in the library in Kingsbridge, but not for long as the sun beckons.

Definitely not up to wearing a bikini on the beach but I have been swimming every day, and was in the sea at Thurlstone for a whole hour yesterday (with no wetsuit as I lent it to ds1). Ds1 has decided swimming isn't actually that bad, and has swum for the first time in two years. Good confidence booster for him.

Foodwise things are going haywire, but I am on holiday after all.

Good luck everyone with all your bootcamp efforts.

winnie · 02/08/2007 11:51

Tigermoth, how committed of you to be logging on to MN whilst on your hols ) Enjoy your holiday. at swimming every day but I could go swimming several times a week and don't so should not be envious but somehow swimming on holiday is not the same as swimming in the local pool where ou bump into all and sundry. And although I can't help keeping in my head a comment made to WWW about being a middle aged woman and nobody would be looking at (me) anyway... I've still not braved it

Duchess, thanks I did force myself to repeat the exercises and although it hurt at the time the next day was fine. Today I plan another set too.

Bamamama, good luck with the move

Cerys, I hope your week got better

My week has got decidedly better but an afternoon on the beach has reminded me of what a long way I've got to go. So my motivation is up. However, children on holiday is not conducive to sticking to the regime imhe. Which is why, I guess, there are so many absentees from this thread.

Right... the date... I can't wear jeans can I? (We are going to a nice local hotels bar)I don't want to wear black trousers I'll feel like I am at work and I don't do skirts (well, only in winter with opaque tights or for funerals, weddings and interviews)! Oh... bl**dy hell. I can see me heading for the Mall this afternoon as I've found nothing in town...

iota · 02/08/2007 15:53

Greetings Youngsters

I've just been camping on the Gower for 3 days - full on sun (did wear the kid's sunscreen, but am still lightly tanned)

  • copious amounts of wine
  • poor broken nights of sleep
  • no beauty regime apart from a shower
  • lots of walking
  • lots of junk food

had a fab time though

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 03/08/2007 01:37

Glad you had a good time Iota. The benefits of a good rest & lots of walking are equal to the damage done by wine & junk food .

Welcome back though!

I've been to the beach, used sunscreen, drunk lots of water, no wine, ran 6k ** and eaten reasonably well but have had several biscuits and an ice cream. I'm having a very late night and my face will pay for it in the morning!

winnie · 03/08/2007 08:25

I have spotted WWW on another thread in the last couple of days so I imagine she is avoiding this thread

I am back at my desk and it is such a relief.

Duchess, well done on the running.
Iota, nice to see you.

Have had a good couple of days following the bad day at the beginning of the week. No ds for the weekend so I can throw myself into exercise and virtue

yoyo · 03/08/2007 09:11

Good luck with the date Winnie. I see nothing wrong with jeans myself - smart top, heels - feeling comfortable about how you look is much more important.

Swimming and going to the gym but drinking lots of wine. Stress levels off the scale. So envious of all of you who have been to the beach. Will be going back to Wales for a few days so hope to have good weather for lots of beach visits.

Iota - where in Gower were you?

SimplySparkling · 04/08/2007 21:57

yoyo You know you are losing your marbles when you read someone's MN post which says "Where in Gower were you?" and you wonder if that is correct or if it should be "Where on the Gower were you?" or "Where down the Gower were you?"

Iota I hope you had a lovely time there. I went down the Gower on hols several times even though it was quite local to me, really.

Sorry, I've only read the last few posts. I hope all are well. I have been really good on the "cut down on drink" front. I managed my no wine for the rest of July challenge (if you don't count one slug of dh's wine one night as significant) and I didn't have it tonight, either! We're off on hols to France next week so I'll enjoy it on hols but won't bother until then seeing as I've had wine on 1st and 2nd Aug and really don't feel like having any atm. We have a shared pool where we're staying and I promise to swim lots every day! Before drinking any wine, of course. I'll be back on the thread towards the end of the month. I hope you all have a good August.

tortoiseSHELL · 04/08/2007 22:02

Hi, just back from a few days with my cousins. Mostly a really nice time, and good re boot camp - lots of walking, playing in the garden, good food, not much wine.

The week ended in a very dramatic and tragic way - we took the children down to the river, and on the way back spotted a lady sitting by the weir, we asked if she was ok (she was in a no access bit) and she jumped. . So we phoned 999, loads of police, ambulance, firefighters, police helicopter came, they pulled her out about a mile downstream but couldn't revive her. Ds1 was VERY upset, but is ok now, we all had to speak to police etc, was a sad end to a lovely few days.

Hope you're all enjoying the summer.

Marina · 05/08/2007 08:43

Oh tortoiseshell, how dreadful Poor you and that poor woman too, what a nasty shock. I can well imagine ds1 was very upset at the time. We left Devon a matter of hours before a worrying police/air ambulance/costguard/crowd control incident more or less outside our flat apparently and I was so relieved we missed it. It is so hard to explain to inquisitive children about traumatic accidents/death. (Could have done without nosing down the A303 with dd chirping away in the back - is grandma DEAD? Will she DIE SOON? ).
Well, I'm back from my hols and reading TM's front-line report I can only conclude the weather was overall nicer in S Devon than in the North We had a great time, but more in the grand tradition of British seaside holidays with plaid rugs, windbreaks, thermos of Bovril and quick dips in an icy sea [brrrr emoticon].
And food is best NOT mentioned I fear
Back in bootcamp with a vengeance come Monday. Will catch up with people properly then but salutations to all
