We’ve been late to the party and are watching Killing Eve here at casa Bani - anyone else? There are some looooovely clothes. Sadly wornontv don’t have info on most of them and they focus on Villanelle’s flashy outfits which are gorgeous and all but I’m intrigued by ordinary coats Wink

quirkychick · 05/05/2019 09:05

bani, I loved Killing Eve and watched it recently. I agree some of the clothes are gorgeous, Fiona Shaw has a great wardrobe in it.

botemp · 05/05/2019 09:17

I'm glad I didn't catch up with this thread before bed time, I'd be worried I'd be dreaming about Cookie Monster in diamante heels (it was definitely Vegas) being my downstairs doctor Shock

I'm somewhat Envy that Flo had such an ethereal entrance in THE dream. Was it the kimono dress attached by any chance? I've been eyeing it longingly but even at 40% it's still ludicrously expensive.

I've only just started on Fleabag season one, so at this rate I'll start on Killing Eve in a couple of years though promise of fashion moments may bring it forward. Is it good?

I didn't know Sophie Turner got married already. Was it Vegas 🤣 I do like the look of some of those pieces, prices are a bit all over the place but not insane, insane. I like the oversized raincoat, shame they're not within the EU otherwise I'd have put in an order to see what it's like.

Before I forget, Elle, I have a PDF copy of the Ivan Ramen cookbook. I've never cooked from it as it's hardcore culinary nerdery that requires lots of hours and more a result of exhaustive research thing in lots of components but it's practically a novel of his down the rabbit hole tale so makes for good reading just on its own. I can share a link if you're interested in it?

Forgot to add, Arket and Weekday both sell swimwear exclusively made of recycled materials. Check the online returns though, think with Weekday you can't return them due to hygiene.

I'm Envy too bo - possibly my finest sartorial moment and I bloody missed it. I hope it wasn't that kimono though, lovely as it is, as I have too much low hanging boobage now to carry it off.

I loved Fleabag but I'm afraid I bailed out of Killing Eve halfway through the first series. There was some kind of car chase (I'm being vague partly to avoid spoilers and partly because I genuinely don't remember) and I had this flashpoint when I realised I had no idea what was going on and no longer cared. And after that not even the clothes and Fiona Shaw could keep me watching. I read later that Phoebe Waller-Bridge only wrote half the episodes and none in series 2.

banivani · 05/05/2019 11:33

Ooo yes it's Fiona Shaw I'm mostly drooling over. Love her in general and her wardrobe in the show is great. Villanelle's is more inspirational of course but Fiona's is my spirit animal. Agree that the show isn't as riveting as I'd hoped. I find I don't care (about the people in it) as much as I thought I would. Also seems to be losing its way a little - started out strong mind you, but is a little too loose on facts and procedure to really work for me.

Bo, where is that lovely kimono-esque thing from? I thought you might like the jumpsuit company ;) and yes, it was a Vegas wedding (but apparently there will be another one in France? I wonder if she's pregnant and felt it was important to be married first).

Can't watch Fleabag on any of my channels :/

botemp · 05/05/2019 17:25

It's from Roland Mouret Bani, it's actually a jumpsuit.

It was Vegas! I was just joking 🙈 and she's also getting married in France? If she's honeymooning in Italy she better fess up and reveal herself as SansaIsLurking on this thread already.

Hmm, the reason I haven't started on KE is that I fear it's more hype than what it delivers. I'll save it for a rainy day, episodes aren't very long IIRC.

I found Killing Eve really funny. I'm now worried I just have a sick sense of humour Blush.

Redandblue11 · 05/05/2019 19:10

I might need to watch Killing Eve... I have not succumbed to that yet.

Thanks for the heads up on recycled material, I saw these at Arket that are a contender. I will hold off as I do not need it just yet, so I might pop into its Regent St store in a few weeks.

It must be so nice to be able to browse swimwear like you lot Envy Not like me with my obviously bizarre crotch shape Angry

I think KE is funny! But it’s not 100% living up to it’s promise ☝️

banivani · 05/05/2019 19:30

*its

ImYourWomanJonSnow · 05/05/2019 21:04

Ha I’ve been saying for ages that Fiona Shaw’s outfits in KE are amazing, especially Russia episodes. I’m clearly on the right thread, whenever I said it inRL people would look at me Confused.

I really like the look of those swimsuits Red especially the high waisted two-piece. Don’t want to rush you but in my experience swimwear is only stocked once as it shortish season, so often things sell out if they’re good (I’m still mourning a gorgeous red one piece that I lost out at Toast couple of years ago).

quirkychick · 05/05/2019 21:27

Jon I do remember you saying that, but I hadn't watched it at that point. I agree! I'm glad I'm not the only one who found it funny, bani, I thought it was very stylised too, but enjoyed it.

banivani · 06/05/2019 09:09

I knew someone was saying things about KE alright but couldn't remember who, JonSnow :)

I also have some Fraaaanch series on my Netflix-list, and honest to god it's mostly coz I think they'll have nice clothes and looks. ;) I haven't bothered watching them though, except Plan Coeur.

Floisme · 06/05/2019 09:54

Oh I agree Fiona Shaw and her outfits were fab - I just thought Killing Eve went off a bit once Waller-Bridge stopped writing. She's such an idiosyncratic voice that it must be hard for a team of writers to copy her style. I think she should argue for sole writing control in future. Then again she seems to be doing OK without my advice!

Fiona Shaw pops up in Fleabag too as a counsellor and steals the episode.

As I rarely swim and never sunbathe I don't tend to spend much money on swimwear but like Jon I've missed out on a Toast one. I think it was £65 or £70 at the time and they're now around £120 so forever out of reach. So yeh I think you need to strike if you like.

Redandblue11 · 06/05/2019 10:54

I hear, I hear, I will get the swimming costumes.

I had a Boden one that was good and also a TigerLily that I got in Aus 5 years ago for quite a lot of money but I do quite a bit of pool/sea swimming in the year (just recreational) so they are virtually see thru now in the bum.
Got me looking into the tigerlily ones but I am going to stick to the more affordable recycled material Arket ones.

ToEllewithit · 06/05/2019 11:23

I’m a bit lukewarm on the characters in Killing Eve too. I find it hard to identify with either of the main characters. Not that I’d necessarily want to identify with an assassin, but still...
I love the jumpsuit/ Kaftan - “jumptan” “kafsuit”? The colour is beautiful. I’d love to read the Ivan Ramen book. I know my time constraints well enough to know that I won’t be making any 24 hour bone broth recalls past wasted purchase of Heston Blumenthal’s book, Momofuku book..., but it sounds like an interesting story. The Chefs Table episode about him was very good.

If I was replacing my workhorse Seafolly it would be for this year’s version. The back is very nice.

Bani, am I allowed to act what sort of smoke monster you're packing down below to be termed, bizarre?

Swimwear is actually a bit of a nightmare for me, bathing suits tend to flatten me out generally and I'd look a whole lot better in bikinis if my stomach area wasn't such a wrecking site and I look horrific in high waisted briefs.

Similarly, I have no immediate need for it now but I know how quick they go so have been keeping an eye out. I ordered an returned attached which had a bit of an Eres vibe, provided you're not as full busted. It's a German brand, Hunkemöller, think Zalando carries them, they last pretty well for a high street chain. Unfortunately it was too big for me, which is not unusual, this was a German 36 (their smallest size) which is two sizes up, I generally size up one for swimwear on account of all the flattening but excess fabric is no good either. Shame as I really liked the colour.

Link to pdf is here, Elle, I'll remove the sharing options in a day or two as it was an advance copy so I'm not really meant to share it with the world at large Blush but you can just download for your own copy.

I have a few of those exhaustive cookbooks too Blush Unfortunately, I will never be a soba noodle master, the fresh handmade version is just a luxury only to be found in Japan and therefore a good excuse to travel Grin Some things are just best left to the professionals.

banivani · 06/05/2019 14:36

Bo I've attached a illustrative picture. Grin Swimsuit crotches are generally too narrow and too long. There's not enough fabric left to cover me. I don't do massive bikini waxing either. If I want to trim there I am literally just trimming the line around my knickers. I am immensely resentful when swimsuit manufacturers try to manipulate me into a Brazilian. If my total crotch width is 10, and the width of my genital crack is 2, they seem to want to make swimsuits with a crotch width of 4. Which means that if you adjust it ever so it goes up your crack, and also that eeeeeverything hangs out. I don't like it.

Les Parisiennes des Mamansnet: See life in pink, but do not wear it!
Redandblue11 · 06/05/2019 15:06

Tbh I also just trim around my knickers so the swimsuits I have “chosen” so far seem to be generous on the crotch area, and also a bit of padding in boobage otherwise I risk being completely flat and I mean completely.
In general high waist bikinis do not do any favours to me ... but I will try once again.
I wish I could try a couple and that be it, last time it took me trying round 20 swimming costumes till decided.

botemp · 07/05/2019 19:20

Bani, when you were being all secretive about your super secret 'event' where you were going to wear that white high slit number you could have just told us the whole story...

I'm with you on #gussetproblems. It seems unique to swimwear, mostly bathing suits. I'm guessing it's a material thing as I've tried on bodysuits that look just like a bathing suit and fit exactly how I want a bathing suit to fit but I can never find one to fit like a body suit even when they look near identical. The more specialist and expensive brands do seem to have better gusset design IME, they just sit flat rather than disappearing into places where they shouldn't.

quirkychick · 07/05/2019 20:18

I'm no expert on swimsuits, I have a "sporty" one from La Redoute with shorts cut legs, so minimum trimmage Grin.

It's far too cold for swimsuits, anyway. I'm back in my winter parka these last few days. I was told at school pick up that I had a lot of coats, Blush erm yes, I do! Anyway, in a cold climate it's what most people see of your outfit and that's my excuse.

banivani · 07/05/2019 20:31

Haha there’s the dress with the slit!!! 😂

Glad you’re with me on the gussets! I might try some higher end stuff but I haven’t had much luck with anything so far. And not matter the price of them, when I just check the cuts the crotches are always narrow. It’s spreading to knickers too. 😡
