time those are lovely trousers. I haven't tried paperback style, either. I tend to avoid high waists due to being short-waisted and not having a very defined waist, but maybe I should give them a go. I can't do low rise either, but tend to aim for slightly mid-rise. Most of my wide trousers are a slouchy fit, with the illusion of being a bit big on the waist, though my Me & Em trousers are high waisted but jersey, as long as I wear something a bit looser on the top, that gives the illusion of more waist (another poster did this with a boxy top).

The tkmaxx price was fine for Nicole Farhi, not sure if Farhi is the diffusion line. I occasionally come across some of her stuff in charity shops, but think it's mostly been too small knitwear. The cut is lovely, it looks straight up and down, but isn't and like the jumpsuit above hits the calves as they taper. It also has pockets.

quirkychick · 04/04/2019 06:55

I meant to add, there was an article in Stella magazine by Lisa Armstrong extolling the virtues of swapping round your winter clothes for spring, particularly as a way of not keep buying new stuff for the sake of it and seeing what you actually have in your wardrobe. I definitely do this, although it's still too cold to put away all the thick jumpers and furry boots!

botemp · 04/04/2019 07:18

Flo's jumpsuit looks amazing on you lightning. I'm tempted myself as tight in the waist would mean it would actually fit me... It's not typically a silhouette that always works for me though. Time, I'd go for something with a bit of a heel, doesn't need to be much, but I always feel jumpsuits really come to life more with a bit of lift.

Really like the trousers on you time. Glad I'm not the only one loving a bit of the warmer and deeper reds.

Nichole Farhi dress looks lovely too, quirky.

I'm not sure about swapping wardrobes making you not buy new stuff. I think in my case it's more that I'm buying things I'm missing or buying more of things I really love wearing.

For example I was reminded in my last rummage through S/S items that I love a jumpsuit but I'm currently more on the lookout for playsuits, they're the first thing I gravitate towards when the weather gets warmer.

bo it doesn't completely stop me buying new stuff, either, but perhaps it's people buying throw away fashion. I do carry in my head a sort of list and a new spring/summer dress was on it. I find I've been looking at brogues, too.

Redandblue11 · 04/04/2019 07:54

Oh!! I love both the jumpsuit and paperbag trousers on you two! Times and Lighting

Maybe i missed, but where are the trousers from Lightning?

The Farhi dress is a great find too quirky

Basic question - What is the difference between jumpsuit and playsuit? Is it length of leg? Or is there more to it?

botemp · 04/04/2019 08:00

Playsuit has shorts length trousers usually, jumpsuit is full length or close to full length. Above and below mid thigh basically.

Ah Flo, a New Look comparison! You are right and I didn't realise until you said, but I think we (certainly me anyway) are in need of a New Look era. A salve for the soul, surviving Trump, Brexit, global and economic uncertainty. That's really struck a chord with me.

Time those are gorgeous. Are they Cos? I think I saw them, but they didn't have my size. They look great on you. I'm loving the paperbag waists, I find them so comfortable to wear. Quirky, it may be worth trying some paperbag trousers as they may give the illusion of waist if you have none, by way of the tight waist, flare of fabric at the top of the belt and the extra fabric at the hips.

Worth a go at the jumpsuit Bo, it is a lovely fit. I also tried on a playsuit from Boden as I like their jersey, but the fabric was too thin and I thought it was too pricey for what it was so it's going back. I'd like one for summer though as I'm really lacking in shorts.

lightningstrikes · 04/04/2019 09:39

Thanks Red! I think Times trousers may be Cos? They are a lovely colour.

banivani · 04/04/2019 09:48

The jumpsuit, the jumpsuit! It looks goooooorgeous lightning and in my opinion is there really such a thing as too much volume in a trouser leg? (I am lying to myself, I tried on
these trousers in Cos when I was in last and I thought they were un petit peu trop actually)

I love them on you, they're perfect.

time paperbag trousers are good aren't they? They don't suit me great since I'm a bit fat, and the extra material around the waist tends to bunch up a bit. I like the bit of waist I have to show, I am a little vain that way.

I have trouble with shoes with jumpsuits actually. Maybe I should take a series of photos of me in my jumpsuits and show the shoes I have so you can critique them. I have trouble with shoes generally, they're most often what fails my looks I think (up to my neck, then it's my face/hair boo-hoo)

timeisnotaline · 04/04/2019 09:54

Trousers are cos, but I can’t find them online. They look exactly like these, I’m not sure re fabric but are a different colour obviously! www.cosstores.com/en_gbp/women/womenswear/trousers/product.belted-paperbag-culottes-blue.0746686001.html
quirky i have a short waist - only a couple of inches between rib and hip, am usually straight up and down and currently straight up and down with some extra weight on the tummy, which seems to have disappeared in those trousers! Pretty much all of my work dresses look terrible on me at the moment so it’s wonderful to have a few things that don’t make me look pregnant. I also stocked up on uniqlo cardigans, for basic workwear :) It was a busy shopping day... I looked at &other stories but the Murky orange and mustard browns meant I couldn’t really engage, I’m very winter. All the plums and burgundies and raspberries and other jewel tones.

Really loved the cos trousers. Will now be looking out for an easy wear cotton culotte type for at home. There was one at cos but it didn’t look amazing - I think it would once I lost a bit of weight but the whole point of this shopping is things that fit me now.

quirkychick · 04/04/2019 13:55

time and lightning that's really helpful, thanks. I shall add paperbag trousers to my list, along with flo's tapered trousers Grin.

Redandblue11 · 04/04/2019 18:40

A bit of M Quant in the guardian, in case you have not seen it.
It runs till Feb next year, so perhaps later on the year I will pay a visit, if anyone up for it let me know.

timeisnotaline · 05/04/2019 13:05

Erm. A sad story from me. It’s clearly fabulous but I need another kg off post babyness. And I think I would probably swim in the 36, you can see how short I am. However I will probably keep it Grin I have to lose that weight soon, and back to work next week should help it off. Would be awesome if I could wear it once june /July hits. Sigh. Also, I took the dc to the doctor an hour early today, so not winning!

I see what you mean Time, but it's very close. If it were me in the picture, I'd keep it and let it spur me on. So near! A few more steps, double greens!

banivani · 06/04/2019 06:33

I think it looks nice, time but a little tight maybe. Smile I personally don’t aim ever for “it will fit me when I lose weight” because I never do 🙄

banivani · 06/04/2019 06:34

Oh forgot - am going to a clothes swapping day today. Don’t have high hopes, tends to be a lot of youngsters with tank tops but it’s been years so I’ll give it a shot again.

botemp · 06/04/2019 10:06

time it looks very promising, if you're managing to get the zip up it's really not that much weight to lose (usually). If you want to be really Parisian about it, they're mad for the ACV cleanse. You don't look that short at all, exactly how tall are you, I'm still contemplating getting the jumpsuit too.

Good luck at the clothes swap Bani, I've never been to one.

I'm somewhat tempted by Mary Quant, it looks like a lovely exhibition. I am loosely planning another London trip at the end of September to go to the MH sample sale then but they don't announce the dates very far ahead so not easy to plan around at all.

Oh what a shame time although I'm not sure I'd have even noticed if you hadn't pointed it out. Assume you've tried heavy duty underwear?
If it's any consolation I expect I'd have the same problem - with me anything one-piece is nearly always either unforgiving on the belly / hips or loose on top. I know lots of people on S&B say dresses are easy to wear but I've never found it so.

Positive thoughts for the clothes swap bani. I think I've only ever been to one. It was organised at work and I hadn't been in the job long so I took along what I thought were some nice things, you know, to try and impress. What a pile of shite it was but, because I was new, I felt obliged to take some of it home. Oh and no-one wanted any of my stuff Grin

Floisme · 06/04/2019 10:17

Oh yeah Mary Quant - I definitely want to go although God knows when.

timeisnotaline · 06/04/2019 11:00

I recently heard I have free entry to v&a exhibits as work is a sponsor , I need to check that up when I start back this week!
bo I’m 163 or 5’4’’ , short enough that trousers need rehemming.
bani I agree re planning to lose weight usually but baby weight is a special case- I’m definitely going to lose some more! He’s 10mo and I’ve nearly stopped breastfeeding.

ThisNameIsDifferentFromTheLast · 07/04/2019 20:52

For those in the UK, I just noticed whilst having a virtual browse that Harvey Nick's is now stocking Bobbies.

I'm very tempted by the La coquette style.

FestivaMaxima · 08/04/2019 16:05

Congratulations Denimes ! Very excited about the Parisienne wedding dress hunt.
Hope that Xingdog is continuing to get better. What are you having done to your house Elle ? That jumpsuit looks great lightning , really like the wide legs on you. Fab paperbag trousers time I found last time that mumtum went after I stopped breastfeeding. Breastfeeding again now and it’s back 😫

I like those sandals Bo and your other purchases sound good too, especially the swimsuit and camisole.

I’ve resumed my annual sandal hunt. Tan or gold, pretty flat and wide enough to accommodate a pair of (size 8) feet on the wider side. Once again, the most promising styles at Sezane and Bobbies have all been snaffled.

Wondering about these Dune slides. I think I like them and the wide foot description is very promising. They look very familiar- are they similar to something Bo posted last summer? Do slides stay on your feet???Most of my sandals have ankle straps and I have distant memories of trying to wear mules in the late 90s and them continually falling off

Had been toying with ordering these mustard sandals from Bobbies. Was put off by the description and the fact that they are neither gold, nor tan. Anyway I dithered too long and they’re now sold out but wondered what you all thought.

Not helpful if they're sold out, but these Bobbies sandals are lovely. In the summer you can pair them with almost anything.

(Scuttles to look at other Bobbies offerings)

ImYourWomanJonSnow · 08/04/2019 18:18

In other shopping news, I just ordered this. I probably already read most of them in my years as a subscriber but great to have the collection: www.lrbstore.co.uk/collections/lrb-collections/products/collections-6-frock-consciousness

botemp · 08/04/2019 19:14

My sandals actually got their first (short) outing yesterday as the weather was incredibly nice at 21 degrees. Cold and misty again now Envy

Maxima, I'm pretty sure they're the exact same ones I saw at Dune last year, the Hermes rip offs with the widest fit I'd ever come across.

I'm not sure on the walkability of mules. I don't have especially narrow feet and I struggle with them, I feel they need a bit of a heel so you're lodged in there by gravity at an angle or something. Different price category but I was looking at these Saint Laurents that I really like the look of but once I tried them on I could only walk with them when my toes were curled up and desperately holding on to the sole, so that saved me a bit of money at least. I did see a knock off pair at Sacha (they're pretty widely spread here in various countries but I don't think they're in the UK). Definitely not as nice looking but they did have a bit of elastic in there and that did seem to make a massive difference in walkability.

I feel I should be on commission from Bobbies considering the love for them on here, especially knowing Harvey Knicks is lurking on here stocks them now. L'exception also carry them, perhaps they still have them in stock or HN?

There's also an Australian brand I was looking at last year, St Agni iirc. Think NAP sell them but they're not crazy expensive.
