Link to book group thread, which has the list of books.

And in case you get bored of the royals or they're having a quiet week, here's the Celebrity S&G thread!

Remember, let's critique the clothes without getting too personal about the wearers.

Checking in ☺ I'm going to follow the book club even if I don't have time to read the books. I find the information and history shared on these threads fascinating.
Re Kate being compared to Diana, it must be so frustrating. Anything she wears that is in any way similar to something Diana wore means articles comparing them and attributing her choices to some kind of respectful remembrance. If I was her I'd feel like my dear MIL was getting shoehorned into my life whatever I did. Maybe the headbands and cost dresses are favourites because she knows she won't be compared when she wears them so she's a bit stuck now.

AhoyDelBoy · 03/02/2019 10:20

This is thread number 20! Wine

LoversLane · 03/02/2019 10:20

I think Kate will be very aware of the comparisons in the media if she wore a lot of Diana’s jewellery hence why I don’t think she wears it much. It’s bad enough that Diana has not been out of some papers in 20 years without giving more for them to write about. I think she is trying to carve her own path whilst being sensitive to W and H.

I find it interesting to look at Diana from a 21st century POV and wonder how the hell the whole situation was allowed to happen. A emotionally damaged young woman marrying a much older man with his own share of issues and then expected to take up the reins of being royal without being given much guidance. She basically spent the whole of her adult life in the spotlight. She seemed very glamorous and grownup to me as a child so it's no wonder William and Harry distrust the press. It's a bit of a shock to look back at photos and think no, she was only 23 or 24 when they were taken. She was on her way to carving her own place in the world towards the end, but really it was a disaster from the start.

Camilla seems great but it's astonishing how public opinion towards her has done a complete turnaround! Charles had a very canny PR guy.

Thank you QueenoftheAndals for the new thread.

Checking in.

LoversLane · 03/02/2019 10:49

Bless her, she was just fodder for the press. Beautiful young girl marries most eligible royal batchelor. The RF didn’t manage it at all well and it took a tragic end and two traumatised children to tighten press guidelines.

Wetdogloveshubert · 03/02/2019 10:55

Love the new thread title queen!

Clankboing · 03/02/2019 11:02

It's a wonder William is still 'on' for being king!

DontCallMeCharlotte · 03/02/2019 11:02

Best thread title yet! Thanks Queen.

Buddywoo · 03/02/2019 11:18

I don't think Kate is anything like Diana. I think William either consciously or sub- consciously chose someone completely different. Even in looks he tended to go for dark haired girls. He has avoided any of the drama queen traits found in Diana and gone for a stable, quieter type of personality.

He knew Diana played the press and, to some extent, used him to present herself as the perfect parent as opposed to Charles who tried to keep the children out of the press. I think his experience of being used is one of the reasons he is so protective of his own children.

I remember him saying once 'Once you let them in you can never change it'. As well as grief and sadness when he lost his mother I think there must also still be quite a lot of anger.

Daisypie · 03/02/2019 11:19

Those baby videos someone shared on the last thread are hard to watch with hindsight. The misery just rolls off Diana in waves.

BartonHollow · 03/02/2019 11:21

Clionba · 03/02/2019 11:21

Good morning QueenOfTheAndals and other royal watching friends.
My jeweller patient tells me that a lot of Diana's stuff has been remodelled and some dismantled eg the central diamond in Meghan's ring.
Though why Meghan has to borrow £500k earrings from a jeweller is anyone's guess.

frugalkitty · 03/02/2019 11:22

Thanks for the new thread Queen

JayAlfredPrufrock · 03/02/2019 11:39

Signing in.

Kate looked stunning in the black velvet dress. And the jewellery was just stunning.

Article in today’s Telegrapg about the online vitriol levelled at the Duchesses.

beanaseireann · 03/02/2019 11:40

Buddywoo
I agree re William going for someone different to his Mum in many aspects.

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/02/2019 12:01

@Clionba better she borrows then than buys them though!

So Hello Magazine have launched ‘hello to kindness’ hashtag to counteract the negative comments online received for the DoS and DoC.

However, they run an article a couple of days ago that Kate wore the red dress to her mum’s birthday party. Didn’t publish the recent photos just the ones from the first time she wore it. I find it so distasteful that with one hand they are asking people to be kind online and yet are churning out stories from a source that was pap photos at a private event and she was clearly having to fight her way to the front door. Leaves a bad taste in the mouth!!Angry

Clionba · 03/02/2019 12:12

True, Queen, but if she wanted stunning blingy earrings, why not borrow from HM, Camilla, Kate etc, rather than promote a jeweller?
